Cute shop with a ton of chocolate options! I saw a sample tray with chocolates behind the counter but unfortunately my mother and I were not offered any samples when we went. We were cruising around with nothing planned and ended up in West Liberty Ohio. I've been to Marie's candy several times in the past and this candy store is a necessary stop! Things are set up always prepared for whatever holiday might be coming up. Mother's Day isn't far away and boxes of chocolate were beautifully prepared. It's pricey but worth treating yourself to once in a while. Staff is always bro and pleasant. Won't be sorry if indulging!! read more

This is a very good sweet shop built in an old train depot (extra cool factor). They make their own candies and if there is something you're interested in, but not sure, just ask. The friendly staff will let you try it. Their truffles are awesome! I had the dark chocolate and dark chocolate coffee...YUM! Now for the "cherry on top"...wait for it...they have CHOCOLATE COVERED BACON!! Some may say ew, but it is amazing! If you're in the Ohio Caverns area, make this place a stop. read more

Upon a revisit Marie's IS STILL GREAT! If you go into the store there is so much to see. Some really unique and seasonal candies! And the display of chocolates to choose from is EPIC. You can fill a box with custom candies that you like. You select the size box and then you fill it until it reaches the box weight. This is super fun and you will be shocked at how much candy fits into a box. I wish Marie's had merchandise with their logo - I would have loved to purchase a coffee mug. This would be something I would also purchase as gifts. Marie's has been a part of my family and traditions for my entire life. I was a little concerned that the environment inside the store did not feel warm and welcoming - I say this because I have loved the candy for decades but the staff made me feel unwelcome and like I was a potential thief in the way they watched as I looked at the candy options available. Maybe it was because of the pandemic or maybe this is a difficult work environment but I am hopeful that Marie's can continue to be a place that my family enjoys for generations. I am hoping for merchandise in the online store soon because I don't get to Ohio that often. Maybe a turquoise mug with the gold Marie's lettering. read more

This is my favorite chocolate (candy) store They offer freshly made variety of chocolate covered candies and seasonal candies. My favorites are dark/milk chocolate covered cashews and Peppermint Chews. I was there a few days ago, addition to my favorites I got some seasonal Spooky Eyes for my friends. It makes no sense to me how a place that people drive all over the state to visit only has less than 5 reviews right now. Apparently the folks in the small towns around me just don't know how to Yelp yet. Marie's Candies is such an AMAZING gem we have here in Ohio. It's adorable inside and out, the employees are always friendly and offer delicious samples as you're walking around, and they decorate the entire store for any and every occasion perfectly. In my opinion, the best 2 Ohio chocolate companies are hands down Marie's and Dayton's Esther Price, but I gotta say that Marie's milk chocolate is so creamy that it's my favorite. Things I always purchase: the milk chocolate covered butter crunch squares (the kind of butter toffee that doesn't stick to your teeth and is easy to chew!), a sleeve of the chimney sweets (square chocolate covered caramels topped with white chocolate, resembling a chimney topped with snow!), and DEFINITELY a pecan gullywhopper (gooey marshmallow and caramel topped with salty pecans and milk chocolate...a big messy mound of Heaven!). I've loved Marie's Candies ever since I was in the first grade, and now in my mid-thirties I only love it more. No doubt THE BEST CHOCOLATE in the state of Ohio by far!!! read more

Marie, you could easily punch Anthony Thomas' lights out when it comes to chocolates! Oh how it pains me to write this review, because of how HUNGRY I will be for some of your chocolate covered contraptions, and goodies. If you ever happen to find yourself towards this area whether is be visiting the Piatt Castles, or Antiquing, or just driving through, you MUST-MUST-MUUUSSST stop here! Marie's is one of the most personable chocolate companies I have ever seen in my days. The employees are always friendly, and helpful with plates of samples in hand. It's an easy thing to walk into Marie's and left stuffed full of chocolate and sugar from all of the samples they offer especially around the holidays. Now, down to the goodies: I will recommend these things that Marie's makes called Gollywhoppers, which is like a massive mound of pecans, marshmallow, which encases a HUGE amount of caramel in the center, and then it's coated, and then coated again with chocolate. These are huge. I can never finish one in one sitting. They're around the size of my fist all the way around. Milk chocolate covered ANYTHING is heavenly here. ((Oreos especially)). I feel like you can really taste the difference on Marie's chocolates compared to other big name companies in Ohio. I'm not sure if these are considered seasonal, or year round, but they have these things called CHIMNEY SWEEPS, which has a small square base of milk chocolate, then has a caramel on top, which is then coated with white chocolate, and the small candy resembled a chimney. Go figure! One big thing about Marie's, which stands them high above the rest of confectioneries in Ohio is the gift wrapping here. It's gorgeous, and creative like you're feasting your eyes upon the highest interior decoration magazine all on a small box of chocolates. They're all seasonally packaged, and will usually incorporate small trinkets into the ribbon, and the wrapping paper itself is exceptional. They employee ladies just to sit and master the art of wrapping. Marie's you are freaking awesome! --P.S.-- If they have an open house scheduled here, then you NEED TO GO, because they'll walk your through how they make all their goodies, how they coat them, and how they mark their chocolates to let you know if you're biting into a coconut, or a nougat. read more

We have been here before and really found the candy to be most delicious; far,far better than Ester Price, which is a local favorite in Dayton, Ohio. On a road trip this week, I discovered this wonderful confectionary. Housed in a restored train depot, Marie's has a wonderful selection of temptations. You can purchase prepacked candies or do a custom blend. The dark chocolate covered caramels and vanilla buttercreams are so very delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful; we asked for a lunch recommendation and the woman called to see what was on the daily menu at a small local lunchroom. A great family owned business staffed by friendly locals. Peanut butter fancies, Dutch treats, peppermint chews and chocolate covered Oreos are amazing. The list could go on and on. Second to none, the candy is delicious! The chocolate has no waxiness at all, melts like butter. The only heart breaker, they don't make sugar free. MARIE'S is the BEST....I live outside of Harrisburg, PA and have not found such Delicious Candies...We drive out of our way to get to the sleepy town of West Liberty and Marie's...My staff loves their Carmela's and my wife their chocolate covered Cherry's...When I get back from our westerly trips my staff's first question is always "WHERE ARE THE CARAMELS"... UPDATE! Went to Maries to get a box of candy to give as a birthday gift in February....everything was Valentine themed....nothing wrapped in birthday paper so not a 5 star fan now. PREVIOUSLY: The most delicious chocolates. Although expensive, the candy is worth the indulgence. To save money, buy their "seconds' which are chocolates that might have been too small, irregular shaped, etc but taste just as great as the "perfects" and at over half the price! read more
