The intake and diagnosis was seamless and while it was not great to hear that I was a "textbook case" I knew I was in good hands in terms of treatment and I felt like there was a plan in place to attack what I was dealing with. I was too locked up to adjust that day, but I returned days later for a quick adjustment that literally reset my entire frame of reference: Pain was gone, balance returned and I was able to move with more certainty. I have a lot of work ahead of me to undo years of what my desk/plane/car related career has done, but I look forward to working with Dr. Martone and team to get there!

I called them and they told me rudely that they had to check something and they would call me with an appointment. That's how it works. Called back a week later well after opening time. Left a message emphasizing my insurance, one of the best in the state. They called me back with an appointment of March 6. This woman didn't seem too bright either. This appointment was a FULL 9 WEEK WAIT! Emailed them them followed up by phone today, March 4. Got "We have no record of you or your appointment. " I was livid. Offered me another appointment 7 weeks from now. Oh, BTW, this was another ditz of a secretary. I told her to go to hell and hung up. My insurance covers any doctor or any medical center in all 6 New England states. I can also bet a whole lot sooner than 9 weeks, then they lose the appointment. WTF?!!!!!!!

I was in serious pain and was seen on the same day I made the call, that in itself is amazing. Upon arrival, the staff was professional and very concerned about my condition. They listened closely as I described my ailment and told me everything that they were doing. When Dr. Blake came in I was very nervous and she recognized my heighten state. She took her time examining me and throughout the process she remained very calm and explained what she was doing. She gave me her diagnosis along with a follow-up treatment plan. The staff then proceeded to take care of all the follow-up appointments needed, from booking my MRI to calling my PCP to get prior approval. That has never happened to me with any other Doctor's office. Usually I'm the one making all the calls. I wish I could give Boston Pain Specialist a perfect 10 but 5 is the highest on Yelp. I totally recommend them if you are looking for caring and professional people.

Unprofessional all around. Ultimately I'm glad I'm not going to be a patient of Dr. McCowan because her behavior in this non-clinical situation speaks poorly to what the experience of being her patient would be like. EDIT: After I published my review on Google, the practice manager responded by describing it as "slander." That is not only very unprofessional , but it is also FALSE. In order for something to be slanderous, it must be not true. I would ask for them to specify what was misrepresented or be more careful about the verbiage they use.

Doc is an "old school" Doc, if he suspects an issue, he gets tests done, if he thinks you need a procedure, he sends you for it, he runs the care for his patients, not some insurance company. The staff member counted the cash in front of me and confirmed the amount I provided, and I gave permission to charge the remaining balance to my card. However, the staff member then took the cash to a back room for another individual to recount it. When he returned, he charged my card an additional amount that was not previously discussed or authorized. This appeared to be due to a mistake on their end, but I was not informed beforehand, nor was my consent obtained before the extra charge was processed. I am very concerned about the lack of communication and authorization regarding this transaction. Additionally, the staff member repeatedly spoke over me, even after I calmly asked several times to be allowed to finish my statements. This made communication difficult and added to the overall frustration of the situation. At no point did he acknowledge the interruptions or offer an apology, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. There were also issues with the prescription. It was initially sent to the wrong pharmacy, and when I called to have it redirected, I was told this could not be done because the original pharmacy had already packaged the medication. After speaking with multiple staff members and spending approximately three hours trying to resolve the issue, the prescription was eventually sent to the correct pharmacy. While the surgeon performed excellent work, the administrative and front office experience was frustrating, disorganized, and unprofessional. Due to these issues, I would not choose to use this practice again.
