Yesterday Andrea said she wanted to go swimming in the ocean so after coffee and other refreshments we headed 4.1 miles to the beach. Initially the $15 parking fee was a no go but after a minute decided to go in. I was all in cause I was looking forward to Andrea stripping down and diving into the surf. Well..... After getting her toes wet from the cold, cold sea she decided to scrape those plans to my disappointment and everyone else on the beach. So in the fog we did get our feet wet, enjoyed the surf, the dogs and the Dillon Beach Air Force (pelicans) performing low fly overs. The beach was packed. People and dogs everywhere. After feet in the water for a bit it seemed actually swimmable but as much as I persuaded Andrea to go in we left without me holding on to her clothes. Next time. Next time. Lots of families and BBQ's getting out of the rat race for a moment to recollect the sanity they may or may not have had at one point. Upon leaving hopefully the sand that will be everywhere will remind them of a nice time on the coast. I know we will continue to remember it. read more

A physical sign before the beach tells you to keep going down the road instead of taking a right as Google maps would tell you to do those directions seem to be correct. I goofed by not taking photos of the spectacular ocean. The best thing is that from the main highway, the walk down to the actual sand and access is relatively easy, even for someone like me with mobility issues. Some steps and a gentle incline. That's it! Gorgeous skyline with beautiful vista. It was blustery when we went but in a sunny day, you can't beat it. Btw, plenty of free parking! read more

Great for Dungeness and Rock crab. Camping and RV's Store on the site for bait, snacks, coffee, etc. It's recommended to come early like before 8 a.m., or you'll need to pay $15 to drive in. Plenty of restrooms throughout the park. read more

I was craving some time with the ocean, so we hit Dillon Beach during our weekend in Pt. Reyes. Evidently a lot of other people had the same idea. This is the busiest beach I've seen in a long while. We looked for free parking, but couldn't find anything along the road, so bit the bullet and paid the $15 for the beach lot. The previous day, I got the crazy notion that I would actually go swimming in the ocean when we got there. Obviously, as soon as my toes detected the water temperature, that was a no-go, though there were a few braver souls than I attempting it without wet suits. Guess I'll have to wait until next time we're in So Cal or Hawaii to get some swim time in the pond. Nevertheless, it was so nice to get our feet wet, take in the ocean air, and enjoy the sights. And the dogs! OMG the dogs. Is there anything better than seeing dogs run around as they're meant to - without a human dragging them on a leash - playing in the water, chasing a ball, and enjoying life? Went here because it is touted as an off leash beach, dog friendly etc. First of all the $15 parking fee is outrageous. Lots of beautiful sand marred by piles of dog poop. Most dogs on leash and aggressive. So disappointed. The best part of the drive was the amazing elephant rocks right off of the road. read more

I haven't been to this beach in years. The parking fees are a tad much (think how much money this family makes each weekend!). Anyway, this is a very popular beach which means lots of people come here. If you wish to be in a more secluded section you need to walk much further down the beach. The sand dunes are pretty & fun to run through. The water is typically not ice cold so nice to get your feet wet. I think the number one attraction to Dillon Beach is the fact that dogs are welcome there and boy are there a lot of dogs. They were actually having an annual pug festival for people from all over the barrier brought their pugs. I was told by my brother-in-law that the men's bathroom looked like it had never ever been cleaned. The woman's was apparently a little better and as I mentioned in my last review, there are no garbage cans or recycling cans anywhere except for right near the parking lot . That's really a shame. One can take nice walks on this beach- you actually can reach where the river comes in to Tomales Bay (about 1.5 miles each way). read more

My family loves visiting Dillon Beach! It's "privately owned" which is silly, but basically all that means is you have to pay for parking. It's pricey for parking but worth it if you make a day of it. There are restrooms near the parking lot. It's a great place to bring the dogs and go for a walk. It's never been too crowded when we've gone (mostly midday weekdays) and most people and dogs have been well-behaved. On our latest visit, there were a lot of bees/hornets that buzzed around and on us but didn't sting, just FYI! read more

Dillon Beach is the best off-leash dog-friendly beach! How lucky are we to have this so near?! It was 93 degrees and sunny in Healdsburg today, and 60 and foggy in Dillon Beach. We bundled up and had the best day with our pups. We clocked about 3 miles round trip - our pups clocked more with all their back and forth and in-and-out of the ocean running. Such a peaceful and joyful afternoon! Note: if you do go with pups, bring water lots of water (for humans and pups) and something to hold your dog poo bags - the only trash is near the parking lot. It's a $10 fee to park and it's money well spent. We love Dillon Beach and can't wait to visit again. read more

Midnight's first trip to the beach! The water was a bit chilly for our puppy and daddy lol, but puppy got used to it and loved exploring! And of course I had to write Mirarose's name with my due date in the sand, just 5 days away! There's something just so relaxing listening to the sound of waves crashing over the ocean! I've already left a review for this beach before and I've been coming here for years but after my last visit I just have to give a shout out to the staff running the parking lot. I came on the 4th of July so my fiancé and I got here early knowing it was going to be packed. But I didn't realize just how packed it would get! We didn't end up bringing towels/beach chairs so we actually had our set up in the car. I have a little crv that we can drop the back seats in and we were parked in the first row up along the sand so we were still right at the beach. (We actually were in the second row but moved up when a car left lol) The staff was on it! They were working really hard getting everyone in and parked. We saw them running around the lot being on top of what spots opened up and getting people in as fast as they could. So many people showed up that the parking lot actually reached capacity and they were getting people in as people were leaving. I really commend them for it because it seriously was a lot of people and I could imagine it was overwhelming but they were doing a really great job and had really good customer service :) read more

My family and I decided to go to Dillon beach for a relaxing Saturday afternoon. The beach and beach goers are quite laid back, which I truly appreciate. There were also many people with their dogs here, which maybe our beach adventure even more fun. There are some tables with seating available, however, they do fill up rather quickly. Try to get here early if you want to use them for a picnic on the beach. A paid parking lot is available right next to the beach. The fee is $15, which isn't bad and is convenient if you have kids and a bunch of things to carry. read more

Be aware that most of the dogs were off the leash since the beach rules allow that. The beach goes for miles with some beautiful views. I honestly love this quaint little community! It reminds me of Pajaro dunes in Watsonville! There's a handful of new houses/rental places that just opened up here and I didn't realize that's what they were. Lol. I kind of thought everybody lived here then I saw a sign! Lol there's a quaint, adorable little store at the top of the hill and then you wind down the road to a beach that is maybe a mile and a half long I've walked it before, but I didn't really track everything, so I'm not too sure but it's a good easy walk! Everything is relatively clean as a beach can be And dogs can run freely here! There's also fisherman so be careful of their lines, but everybody keeps to themselves and it's fun to watch the kids play on the dunes. I always worry because the dunes protect the habitat here but I haven't heard or seen a park ranger tell the families anything. Still, I love the area, and it's very beautiful and scenic!!! I will definitely be back to the beach again! Fun tip! If you come after 330 I think it was, the beach closes at 5:30 but you can get in for free. It's a nice big beach and very busy on the weekends. We parked up the hill and made our way down past tons of cars & RVs waiting to get in the full, small parking lot. The water was too cold for us but our dog really enjoyed it. Not to mention, the restaurant and market by the statue is really great! The vanilla and salted caramel soft serve cones at the market is a must. Came back the next morning around 7AM with the dog and we had the beach almost to ourselves! There were only a few surfers and surf fisherman. The lot was closed so I parked along the side of the gate. I was happy to get some great pics of my pup and enjoy a wonderful morning walk with him. Note: Some dogs ran up to us and did not know recall as the owners were yelling in the background. If you haven't taught them this essential command, keep them on a leash. Even as they play with others, keep a close eye on them and have them take breaks when they get overstimulated. Let's be responsible dog owners to prevent any potential dangerous situations at dog beaches AND parks. read more

Ok so. Very beautiful beach. As all are. Me and my gf drove from sac to watch the sunrise. I was hoping we could find street parking. Everything in the area is rental housing and has big no parking signs. So your only option is the park in the lot. Unfortunately the sign on the gate says the lot is open sun up to sun down but when we're arrived at 5:30 it was locked and they did not open it till 8:30! (We chose to park illegally, how no issues no ticket and a couple other surfers were doing the same thing but I wouldn't recommend it) bathrooms also stayed lock the whole time we were there. I also wish there was a bit more of a beach town. The nearest coffee spot was 30 minutes away. It's very much the middle of nowhere which I guess would be nice if you want to avoid the crowds but eh I don't recommend it for 1, the parking situation and 2, the lack of a beach town. read more

Dillon beach is one of my favorites. It isn't the closest or the cheapest ($10 parking, still not bad) yet the hubs and I always pick Dillon beach as our beach of choice. Why? The drive in can be magical if you allow it! Miles of green fields and rolling hills filled with sheep! Large mossy boulders sticking out of the hillsides. If you come through during the right time of year, it's absolutely gorgeous. When you arrive, there is a small beach store and restaurant up above which is perfect for a beverage or appetizer after the long trek in. One side of the beach is rocky, has small caves, and fun tide pools to explore if you time it right. The other side, endless miles of sandy beach to stroll while you think, pray, or talk and laugh with your loved ones. I will say it can get windy- last time Hubs and I brought a small pop up tent as a shelter, it made a world of difference to be able to sit in with blankets while watching the sunset. 10/10 recommend atleast giving Dillon beach a try when you visit the area. It's off the beaten path a few miles, but worth the detour! read more

Came in from San Diego and picked up pounds of oysters at Tomales Bay Oyster company, shucked them on a park bench on the sand to watch the sunset on a great weekend, bathrooms were clean and zero riff raff on the beach. I brought my mom here for a day trip. She really likes it here. The beach is beautiful. There are a lot of Boulder rocks that make the scenery beautiful. If you get there before 8 or 9 am..parking is free..then it's 10 or 12.00 after that. There is plenty of parking...and it is dog friendly. You can have your dogs off the leash here and will find many digs running and playing. There are sand dunes...so if you have trouble walking..its a little difficult to get to the beach area. There are bathrooms with changing rooms which is nice. The beach area is pretty large. There are picnic tables to sit at. The water is so beautiful...this really is a nice beach to visit if you are in the area...if for a day or only to have lunch. It's a little off the beaten path..but very much worth the drive. Dillon Beach is so calming and just plain beautiful. We have friends that camp here often and although we are always invited for some reason we never go. This last time we went for the day and were very impressed! The campgrounds are large and clean. The bathrooms (Portia potties) also clean. But the beach area!!! Wow! Could hang here all day and we did!! Fishing was awesome. So was parking ( in the sand) Day trip or overnight, definitely come here. read more
