What a wonderful place to unwind and catch some fresh air. Decided to go camping here for the weekend. This place has RV camping and tent camping. They have tent camping on a grasses area if that's what you are there for. There are a few full hook ups for rv sites as well. You are allowed to make a camp fire for your s'more and to keep yourself warm on those cool nights. It does get a little chilly and cold since you are by the beach so make sure you pack some warm close. If you are into fishing they will take your boat out and launch it for you to. The general store is fully stocked with all your essential needs if you forgot something or if you want to pick up to take home with you for a souvenir. The store also has coffee if you need something to get you going in the morning. The showers are clean and you also need coins to take a shower so make sure you bring some quarters. The beach is a few steps away with a beautiful view. We paid about $68 dollars a night but that is not with full hookups. So if you like camping and want to escape from the heat. We go to All kinds of places with all kinds of different amenities and the Lawson's have done a great job upgrading and modernizing the camp ground with many of those creature comforts. The place is okay, bathrooms are decent but they have rules they don't implement. A lot of people have their dogs off leash and people just parks in the middle of the road. The one only rule they implement is quite time. This lady took her time to tell people that it's quite time and we need to shut it down. As soon as she's gone a bunch of people started playing their music loud. From what I understand is camping is a vacation away from home and most people like to stay up late and party so I never get the quite time before midnight!! read more

We have been coming here my entire life and watched it change and boy has it changed. And some of the changes are not the fault of the Lawson family but coastal regulations and bureaucracy. But now days it's just not that fun. You spend $600+ to camp for a week $500 in fuels to get there and back and $5-600 on food and drinks to go relax and have fun with friends and family just to have some snotty 25 year old girl yelling at you to be quiet it's past curfew when you and friends are just sitting and talking by the fire! I'm new to that trailer life and this was the first place I pulled ours for some time away. I loved that this campground was right on Tomales Bay. The view from most campsites included the water, which is a nice perk, and the campground has great access to a private beach and dunes to explore. I loved that you could crab and fish directly from the beach, and we actually managed to catch a keeper rock crab! If you've got a small boat you may even be able to launch from the beach, and we def saw boats coming back with halibut caught right offshore. When I think of camping I think of being surrounded by nature, but this is a busy campground and to me it felt more like a large lot than a place to camp. I loved that we were with friends and could have that camping vibe, cooking meals and hanging out around a fire into the wee hours of the morning. The major plus see here were the access to the bay, and we made a lot of fun just kicking it on the beach, but the biggest downsides to me were how close the sites were to each other, the sound of generators constantly running, and the minimal scenery around each site to minimize the parking lot vibes. We still had a blast and I'm excited to go back again with the crew now that we're more familiar with our rig! read more

Let's talk about Lawson's Landing. Overpriced items and sub par place to stay. This isn't a theme park, but the people there are definitely characters in a bad tv show. HARD PASS! The Owner, a person I would NEVER want to be be associated with. A real piece of work. Observed many times over the years shares entitled rude behavior with that of a tycoon. Two years ago, I'll never forget, this guy was complaining to ANY Customer who would listen about how he does so much to keep this place open and that people that complain about anything and everything are so ungrateful. It was really really colorful and downright disgusting. Excuse me? The people that PAY YOUR TAXES are ungrateful that you don't upgrade the sites they pay extreme amounts for? That you don't offer any amenities such as a shower or even that thing called...electricity? That you cater towards camping trailers with no water hookups? Mmmm, ok guy. Breathe. You do not provide toilets. Let alone ADA compliant areas for the toilets. You provide nasty ports potty that aren't even level on the ground. How is anyone supposed to wheelchair into the porta potty? They shake when you are in them. And they are disgusting. Your workers? blast them with a sudo washer and don't even take out the seat covers OR the toilet paper....and miss all the grossness. And then leave the residual water/product....that's just nasty.You blast gross stuff off the floor ONTO the toilet paper and seat covers because of laziness. I mean seriously....it's barely 50 outside and now I have to sit on a nasty went porta potty because your are too lazy to upgrade, let alone move paper until you are done? Penny pinch much? And what a concept of adding a smelly paper tree to remove some nasty stink. The photos are of the "handicap" porta potty. The others were gross, too. If not worse. These were after a "clean" too! You also do not provide electricity or anything that resembles comfort here. The grounds are totally unlevel on the camp sites. So, you won't be seeing many disabled folks here. OOOOO, all the dumpsters were FULL. Everywhere. It was a Wednesday. Majority of the camp sites are behind dunes. Unless you go to the seawall area, with no running water there either. Nothing to see but your neighbors getting drunk and dogs wandering everywhere. Fun. Never saw a "camp ranger" once. You have so many sites crammed next to one another so you can benefit off making money. 60$ for a pair of sweats? What? Like, woah guy. Ego much? Ohhhh, let's talk about the campers! Zero enforcement. Parking in other peoples spots and parking IN the roadways. Legit blocking people. And then have rude persons get defensive because they got asked politely to move their illegally parked vehicles from your purchased spot. So like, no, this place is not great. You get belligerent people and their visitors.....mmmmm, fun. This place is not worth it. Overcrowded, too. This isn'y Yosemite, and if it were, it would at least offer real amenities. We booked this spot to camp because we had never been to this area before. The area is very clean and very spacious. If you're looking to fish, this is a great location, but not really great for much else. There are no toilets or showers available, but some very clean porta-potties are available all over the campgrounds. The store has cute basic items available, but the staff wasn't very friendly when we were there; maybe it was an odd couple of days. The quiet hours are enforced, which was very nice and the beautiful foggy mornings were the best things about this campground. read more

We've been camping here for many years, and go at least twice a year. The sites are actually large compared to most other places we have been. Crabbing is great and there's lots to do from clamming to fishing to exploring. We saw last time they are building toilets and showers, that will be nice. We haven't experienced any rude staff. The new car thing is a bit annoying, but not outlandish since we've been to many other places where they are strict with extra cars. In the peak of summer it's very crowded and there can be some sketchy people, you might want to lock up or put away coolers or anything expensive. read more

My family has been camping at lawsons for 30+ years and we've always had a great time and have made a lot of good memories. The amount of time, effort and money you put in to camping to go have a good time with your friends and family isn't worth going to lawsons anymore. If you camp with other people and they bring friends who do things the camp host doesn't agree with you will go down with them weather you invited them or they were invited by other people. You will be accused of doing things morons from other campsites are doing such as lighting fireworks when you have absolutely nothing to do with it. So basically anyone who is associated with you will be in trouble too. Be very selective in who you camp with here. Sadly my family is banned and we have not done anything wrong. Not to mention the staff at the window when you pull in are not the most friendly people. read more

There are no hookups but there are 2 better than average sanitation stations as they are on elevated areas with the drain ports as close as you want to get. Water and sanitation. Days go by quickly it seems. Gotta get this work thing out of the way, permanently. Nice place to decompress, gather one's thoughts, and make plans. Definitely would come back. The on site store is great. The prices are very reasonable and a very pleasant surprise. Thanks to Willy and Gage. I came here for the day with my son to hang out for some co-workers this past Saturday. This campground is located right next to Dillon's Beach. Not sure how much it is to camp here, but it was $15 for a day use parking pass. It's a huge campground there is the Dillon's Beach side and if you go further down, there is the Lawson's Landing side in a bay. When you pull up to the gate, you need to park and get out to pay which is annoying, especially if you have an RV or are towing something. They don't provide you with a map of the campground, it it can be difficult to find where your site is. You just have to look on the fence posts where the site numbers are posted. This campground is for both RV/Camper Trailers and tents, but it seems like majority of the people have RV/Trailers (2/3, RV/Trailers to 1/3 tents). There are no hookups, so be prepared for dry camping. There are porta potties the rough out the campsites, but no hand washing stations. There are a few water spigots scattered around the campsites, but difficult to find as they are not marked. Another thing I noticed was that it is very dog friendly as it seems like 75% of the campsites had dogs. You are suppose to leash your dogs here, but they don't enforce it so there are a lot of loose dogs running around. Each campsite has a picnic bench/table and a fire pit. The best thing about this campground is that it is right on the water. On the Dillons Beach side, you just climb over a a large, steep sand dune and you are on the beach. On the Lawson's Landing Store side, it's on a bay, so the water is a little calmer, so you can kayak, maybe paddle board, fishing and crabbing. This place is known for crabbing during crab season. The Lawson's Landing store is actually pretty cool where they sell a bunch of random stuff, plus you can also purchase bait and cream bars/popsicles there. Overall, I felt this place is a little too crowded even there though the campsites are decent size, they are a little too close together for my taste especially with so many loose dogs running around. Make sure you keep an eye out for your food, otherwise a dog may get to it. At night you also need to need to pack up your food because there are other animals/birds/critters that may come and steal your food as well. 4 stars I've been here a few times over the years on day trips just to enjoy the raw beach, crashing waves, & sand dunes the kids like to slide down on. Usually it's windy, but always it's the natural ocean we enjoy. Lawsons is by no means fancy. In fact the only "nice" or modern part is the store, which I absolutely love to go in and browse when I need a change of scenery. You will find everything there except for maybe an extensive grocery section. My favorite part is likely what I call the Home Goods/Kirkland/Hobby Lobby section which has the most adorable sea and nautical themed items such as crabs, whales, ocean, etc. You will also find items for the crabbing experience such as squid, fishing items, unique items like colors you can throw into your campfire to make it rainbow colored. I wish I brought my sons kite, but if you want to fly one they have their own kite section. If you're hungry and don't feel like cooking or want to innterupt your experience by cooking, they have a few microwaveable items like pizza rolls, burritos, and even some stuff to take back to your site like hash browns. That same section also has coffee and teas and a microwave. Lawsons is a huge campground and if you camp far, you will need a car or bike or be ok with all the walking. You will for sure have to be okay with the wind too. I haven't been here 1 time over the years and it hasn't been windy. For the last 2 years we came the week after Christmas and it rains a lot during that time. Crabbing in the day hasn't proven fruitful, but crabbing at night, like after 6pm-12am has. Every single evening we threw the pods out we've come back with at least 8 or so crabs. When we went in the day we've came back with 1 or 2. Snares are hardly as fruitful as the pods and if you have a kayak or boat even better. It's really a great idea to know tides well and how that relates to crabbing. And also extremely wise to not use a kayak without knowing how to use it during the tides going out. The lady at the store told us 2 women in kayaks had to be helicopter back in recently. And when our 2 men went out during the outgoing tide it took everything in their middle aged bodies to paddle back to shore. I would love to come back when the tides are low for clamming. The spring is supposed to be great for that. We stayed in 524 and 525 and I really liked the proximity to the store, it's only a 2 minute walk or so and beach crabbing area we like to be at most of the time. Note to self, bring kites, a water jug to bring to wash our hands at at the beach, sledding saucers to go down dunes with and maybe bikes to ride all the way into Dillons Beach general store and around town in. read more

Yes, a 5 star review for a campground that has , virtually, no amenities. Lawsons isn't a place...it's an experience. It's a blue-collar oasis surrounded by Marin county snobbery. Lawsons is a place for kids to run freely, to play, to find crabs and run down sand dunes smiling. It's cold, windy and foggy yet the kids run around in shorts with no shirts caring not about the cold. Rules are more like guidelines and the only thing that is certain is that your kids will remember the fun and freedom for the rest of their lives. On busy weekends there is a reassuring zeitgeist of humming generators, gravel crunching under car tires, kites flying and most importantly kids laughing. Lawson's Landing - Firepit - Boating Near Me - Dillon Beach, California

I saw many good reviews and some not too impressed reviews about Lawson's Landing before I came for camping. It turns out I like the campground and the beautiful beaches in the area a lot! The campground is pretty busy. I almost think it is too many people and RVs. But the campground is huge, and I don't feel it is crowded at all. The campsites are pretty big with enough rooms between RVs. The check-in is a little different than most of the campgrounds. Most campgrounds let the drivers pull up next to the check-in stand, but Lawson's Landing requires the RVs to stop in front of the gate and walk to the check-in stand. It confused some people. I saw a driver pass the whole line in front of the check-in stand just because he didn't know people were lining up in front of the stand. Lol! The campground is very windy when I'm there. I have been told it is always like that most of the time! Make sure to bring a jacket even if you're in the summer. Another thing I must bring up is don't trust the Apple map GPS if you're using an iPhone. It brings me into the village. I almost can't make a turn on the very narrow street. Google map working in the area. I hope Apple will fix this problem soon! read more

Been coming to Lawson's Landing for almost 30 years, our group of 30 to 45 love coming back every year!!! Lots of changes in the past 30 years!! A lot of the complaints people are complaining about are the results of Government Involvement!! Not Lawsons Landing!!! Lawson's Landing has had a lot changes due to government regulations made by people who haven't got the slightest idea of what they're doing !!! A very sad thing for the owners of this private property!!!! My one biggest complaint is that Lawson's Landing Management does not in-force the dog leash rule!! Some people think that Leash Rule is for everyone except themselves!!! I've seen dog fights almost every year I'm here, people walking there dog on a leash down the road, an here comes a dog running from a camp without a leash on, an the fight is on!!! Lawson's Landing should change their dog rule to read, any dog caught, caught off a leash outside of any RV, camper, tent or boat will be asked to leave, with no refund!! I M H O!!! read more

I have been a faithful Lawson's Landing crabber since 2018. I have brought friends, my daughter, and raved about this special place. I am really disappointed to say I will taking a long break due to the rude and unprofessional conduct of the owner, Mr. Lawson. As I was driving in to the landing to enjoy a day of crabbing, a SUV in front of us was going much slower and braking. I attempted to go around them to get to the boat launch, when they abruptly swerved in front of me and cut me off, almost causing a wreck. A male got out of the car, approached our vehicle angrily, yelling at us "I'm Mr. Lawson, the owner, I own this place, get out now, off my property the speed limit is 5 mph!" There was no discussion, warning and the identified owner was very aggressive, akin to someone having road rage. I would have appreciated if the owner had a conversation regarding the speed limit and a warning or at least spoken in a professional manner. I was escorted off the property and supposedly given a refund of $15 which I have yet to receive. There is one small sign saying 5mph at the entrance, hard to notice. If going 5mph over the speed limits warrants being yelled at and removal from the property it should be reminded when you pay at the entrance and many signs should be posted that this is a strictly enforced. I was not driving recklessly or fast, 10 mph is hardly dangerous. There were no pedestrians or other cars besides us and the SUV in front of us. This was the first time bringing my partner there and he was really upset about the treatment, we will not be going back and will be letting our friends know not to support this establishment. This was a very upsetting experience after driving 1.5 hours from Oakland. read more

We tent camped in spot 518. The staff was super friendly. There's a private beach trail you can hike up and over the dunes to dillon beach. Bring your binoculars to see the Tule elk in the morning over at Tomales Point! Pretty area. Portable bathrooms were nice and clean. Definitely pricey at $70/night for a dry camping spot. Lawsons landing was the perfect spot to shuck some oysters and camp out. The drive from SF to here has plenty of places to pick up really fresh seafood (Hog Island, Tomales Bay) and then you can cook by the campfire and go to the beach. It was definitely incredibly windy in May, therefore, make sure you weigh down your tent if you leave the site, and layer up. Otherwise, it was a really great place to camp out with a ton of accommodations. It was spread out, we would recommend staying closest to the water. It was a majority trailers but some campers. They also sold fire wood and pretty much anything you could imagine at the general store. Pricy compared to national parks, but definitely get seafood and make the most out of this by going to point Reyes and Tomales bay. read more

It was my BF and I's first time camping and crabbing here. For our first time, it was an ok overall experience. The campsite we chose was near Dillon's Beach side and was about $55/night. We only stayed one night. The campsite was pretty spacious and we were close to the beach access and bathrooms/trash. Each site comes with a bench and bonfire pit. The reason we came here was mainly to crab. Since our campsite was far from the area where people usually crab (Tomales Bay side/near the Lawson's Landing store) we ended up driving our car back and forth to go crabbing which wasn't too bad. But, now we know where to choose our campsite the next time we come here. You can crab at the beach access but it's way more rough than it is on the bay side. During crabbing season, it does get pretty crowded, so be sure to come early to secure a spot. There are no showers here and water access is pretty spread out. I wish sinks were available. Bathrooms are gross just like any other public porta potty--especially being a girl lol. But, I'm glad I brought my own portable toilet with me haha. Anyways, it was quite an experience and I'm glad we didn't leave empty handed. We were able to snare two keeper Dungeness crabs. read more

Proximity to the beach? 5 stars. Everything else? Subtract all stars possible. Where to start? The list of negatives seems endless. 1) the unpaved road. Lawson, you likely pull in several thousand dollars a DAY. More often than not, your customers are people with $60k trucks and $40k+ RV's. You think we want to screw up our vehicles with the absurd amount of potholes that cover the ENTIRE length of your campground? These rubicon-rated dips are violent enough to make one lose their lunch. Driving over it for the short distance screams that you don't care and likely didn't care past the day it was initially paved 60 years ago. 2) The [lack of] amenities. No WiFi, no hook ups, ok fine. But the sorry excuse for a water spigot (it seems there are 3 for the entire 200 sites?) that are completely corroded, unmarked, and with zero fanfare, and what you call "bathrooms" (port o potties) can only be looked at as now we are in an abusive relationship with you for the short 4 days we camped here. You mistreat us and beat us down and we feel obligated to stay because by god we made it down the bumpy road to our campsite, we ain't leaving. Why won't you do an actual bathroom? Not that we need it cause our RV has one, but the portapotties just look trashy. 3) The dumping station- we referred to it as a hate crime. 2 for the entire place, and completely unkempt. The hose provided is an antique but no matter, the faucet head was broken anyway. The long lines to use this before we left was just insulting. 4) the customer service was non existent. The lady who "checked us in" didn't say hello and didn't give us a map or a run down of anything or give any indication that she was happy to be alive and with a job. She basically snapped at us for our name and then waved us in. We spent another 20 minutes looking for our campsite because nothing was marked, there were no signs pointing us anywhere (camping spots had numbers but the numbers were attached to the BACK of each lot so if a trailer was parked in a spot there was no way of seeing where you were) and the other thing is that the counting is not consistently in order so our campsite #5 was in between campsite #207 and #36, if you get what I'm saying. 5) no general store, no kiosk that so much as had a band aid for sale. 6) if you are unlucky and choose the wrong campsite blindly, there is a row of "cabins" that look like they are all hoarders with mountains of trash bags and other misc. broken debris and live there permanently, so be careful to not get stuck next to that. 7) no patrol or enforcement. We were there with our dog and while we appreciate the friendly dog policy, the campsite next to us had not only families in regular rotation (like, one trailer guest had several different cars of people come each night to use the facility) and with them came dogs. Lots. At one point we counted 8 dogs and not on leash and some came to poop in our site. Lovely. But we did luck out to have a campsite right next to the beach trail AND during their half capacity quarantine stage so that actually made it nice. read more

Gets a solid 3.5 I usually been here for day trips but recently camped out. People are usually pretty chill. Campsites are close to the water no matter where you camp. The dunes make for a bit of a walk but no biggie. Theres firepits at almost every campsite, but no direct power or water hooks ups at the individual camp sites. There are dedicated water areas to fill up your RV, but some are not well placed for use. Some of the individual campsites are massive and very fairly priced Very little no to internet coverage with ATT. you have to be on the beach to get service. The store is limited but has most of the basics from water to charcoal, to oysters, to fishing supplies, and poo-pouri. My only real gripe with this place is though some of the campsites have enough room for 3 RVs, they will only allow you 1 RV, and two cars. It's also a 20-30 minute drive one way if you need to get gas or get to a store. Other than that I really enjoy lawsons. Staff has always been incredibly friendly and we always have an awesome time here. Give it a shot! read more

Camp host is TERRIBLE. He got my family of 6 banned for life (2 adults, 4 kids). We kept our reservation and went through there and as if the wet cold weekend wasn't already tough to deal with we had this guy harassing us day and night. Hardy anyone was camping this weekend and we had a group of us and he complained about the the music and the way other people's trailers were parked at our site. As far as the music at night, we didn't have ours on because we have 4 kids that were sleeping. Our friends ended up moving their trailer that he didn't approve of being in the spot it was. We figured since no one was camping anywhere near us we would be able to block ourselves from the elements but It turned out to be a huge problem. Again not my trailer parked the wrong way. He eneded up arguing with people who were friends of some of our friends but again my family got blamed for the Disrespect. I've been camping at lawsons for 30 years and we have never dealt with anything like this. Lawsons us my kids favorite place to camp and it really bothers me that we just got banned for life...but its ok for the camp host to have been professionally taking shots of whiskey with some of the people from our crowd but were the ones out of line? Long story short there is no room for error at this campground and you'll get banned for things you didn't even do. While they might think he's a gem and "doing his job", he's very unprofessional and looks like an ex drug addict. I'm only writing this review because I think what has happened is totally unfair. I called and talked to the owner but was only told about how disrespectful we were and that their camp host is good at his job. Well we were never disrespectful, our music wasn't on and our trailer was parked just fine. Was there music on? Yes but not from our trailer. Was someone parked illegal? Yes, but not us. Was someone disrespectful to the host? Yes but it was one of our friends, friend. After hearing some of these people got their ban lifted who the ones actually doing this stuff has definitely rubbed me the wrong way. read more

Such a fun family getaway ! Worth every $100 I spent in the general store every day haha. So much fun stuff to buy. Wood is so important here. Don't forget your dry logs. Everything gets wet at night so make sure everything you leave outside is waterproof. Lots of wild animals. Don't leave food out or it will get eaten or destroyed. Lawson's Landing - A child's magical adventure - Boating Near Me - Dillon Beach, California

Spent the last 4 days of January here, and had the most spectacularly wonderful weather. That, coupled with the fact that there were almost no other campers here, made for the best time ever! Lawson's Landing is a rustic camping gem, particularly if you have an RV and can camp in the off season. Tent camping would be a bit of a challenge, porta potties, no showers, etc., but well worth it for those who can rough it a bit. We made our reservations online. I love it when I can look at a campsite map, see what is available, and then choose the campsite. We chose to camp along the sea wall, as the grassy sites near the dunes can be a little soggy during the wet season. The sites are close together, so don't expect privacy during camping season, but in January, we had almost the entire camp to ourselves. There are lots of cows, but they won't bother you unless you leave a tasty little potted plant on an outside table like we did, which a cow viewed as an invitation to stop by for a snack. Laughs and lesson learned. From our campsite, we watched the tide come in and out, and at low tide we watched the tiny jet streams of water that came from the clams. We fished for crabs off the pier, and netted quite a few, some large enough to keep. We pulled out the binoculars and watched the elk on the reserve across the bay. We walked on the beach. What more could you want? We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. They ran a special rate to entice campers to stay past the weekend which we were more than happy to accept. They have an active Facebook account which keeps you up to date on activities, weather, etc., which is an added plus. 5-star experience, can't wait to go back. read more

My sister reserved camping spots for both our families. I showed up before her to an empty lot and proceeded to unpack our things and set up camp. Out of nowhere one of the workers starts screaming at us from the top of his lungs to get our truck out of that spot RIGHT NOW!!! Unbeknownst to us, you were only supposed to walk the block in with all your things. When we pulled in, there were no tents set up, nobody around, and no signs. Had we known, we obviously would not have parked our truck in there. If the lunatic had kindly told us that we were not allowed to park in the area, we would have graciously apologized and moved our truck quickly. I had 2 traumatized kids on the first day on their very first camping trip. Thanks Ahole. We had a pleasurable stay nonetheless. Kids enjoyed the beach and wildlife. The Neanderthals just need to work on their people skills. read more
