We needed an extra bedroom and were thinking of relocating the laundry room from the basement. Tim came to our house listened to what we said and quickly put together an addition that ticked all the boxes and matched the style of our 1927 hip roof colonial. Now when I have people over and they ask about the addition I have to show them what's new. The addition fits so well with the rest of the house it's hard to tell new from old. Tim's price was reasonable, everything was as expected and during construction when we had a few questions(and changes, which architects notoriously hate) he came right over and did the extra work in a timely fashion, for a nominal fee.

Ed seems a nice guy in his first visit so we hired Gemmola & Associates in February 2022 to make a…read moreplan for house expansion. We gave them a retainer of $10,000 as requested. They told us that the work cannot begin until we do a survey. We did a survey, but by then we decided to give up the expansion, and opted for a much smaller job. Before the design started, our plan has changed again and decided not to do any home improvement. We communicated all of the changes in writing in a timely manner, and was acknowledged. Now we have trouble getting our money back. Since we paid the retainer, an associate has stopped by to pick up the signed proposal, talked to us in our driveway, and took us to see an example of their past work. That's it. No one from Gemmola & Associates has since entered the house, or presented us with any plans, drafts, drawings for the work they intended to do, or provided us any work they claimed to have done. An attorney is now working on our behalf. I hope Ed will do the right thing, and return our money.

Mary (the Ting in the Springer & Ting) did some minor tweaking - walling off a doorway, shifting another - to achieve full functionality within a very tight space. The second - we were having a colonial home built, and wanted a more open floor plan on the first floor, and more equal-sized bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Mary redid the builder's layout completely, placing bathroom and laundry in the interior so that more light would be available for the breakfast area at the corner of the house. The builder (who did not normally like working with architects) was impressed, as the final design was very "buildable" and sensible (from his perspective). We couldn't be happier.

I didn't hire them to do a major renovation like most of their clients do, but I was very happy with the consultation we had about my house. Todd is thoughtful and deliberate, like a sweet knowledgeable grandfather, and Mary is intelligent and energetic. She even had some brilliant tips for my garden. They seem to genuinely care and had a lot of experience from much older homes up North to draw from. Their perspective made me excited and confident about the changes I'll be making to my historic home in the next couple years.

California came up as the only place we could perhaps use- if price was right. We tried our luck and figured if these folks cater to closets, they could probably bend a little with pantries. Greeting was warm when we came here and were shown around. We looked at the materials/colors/styles then made an appointment for an at-home Saturday morning design consultation. Marielena(?) was a fire cracker and super talented. We let her do her thing in our garage, gave her the space she needed to come up with 2 pantry styles and different pricing for each. In the end, she showed us renderings of both options. While we didn't go for that $5000+ sticker shock pantry payment just yet after shelling out quite a bit for a new kitchen and other much-needed home projects, holding off was best. Not to mention, we were told of significant delays which, during these times, is understandable. California Closets stand behind their brand and workmanship and something we really appreciate. Everything Marielena(?) designed was personalized to our needs, and style preferences- even if we didn't sign on that dotted line.
