There's something about Din Tai Fung. When the air becomes crisp & the first thing I reach for upon leaving the house is my scarf, my craving for these plump, soup filled dumplings becomes undeniable. That's how I found myself sitting down earlier today at this famous 41-year-old Taiwanese dumpling chain. Those who've met me, understand that this isn't my first rodeo. I've been a Din Tai Groupie now for well over 8 years. If I'm going to be perfectly honest, I've now dined at Din Tai Fung in over 5 countries in as many years. In fact, it's no word of a lie that I once boarded a flight with a group of friends to Taiwan, purely to dine at the original location. We waited, hungry & eager on the streets of downtown Taipei for well over an hour. Full of gross anticipation, we wondered if anyone else would deem our dumpling pilgrimage 'nuts'. Perhaps we were nuts, unknowingly having flown in during the middle of a serious tropical cyclone. Memories! Taking the above into consideration, you can imagine my squeals of delight upon finding out that 'The Fung' was finally making its way to the Sutherland Shire. I'm fairly confident it involved some swearing & perhaps even a few tears. Today we arrive right on midday, the restaurant is heaving & we are led to a table upstairs. Sitting down, we peel off our coats & push our menus aside. Did I mention this isn't our first rodeo? Predictably, we order 8 pieces of the Pork Xiao Long Bao, a bowl of the Shrimp & Pork Wonton's with Tangy Sauce, 6 pieces of Shrimp & Pork Jiao Ze & the Pork Chop served with Fried Rice. Just as the waitress is rushing away with our order, I notice a flyer detailing a new addition to the menu - Pork & Prawn Potstickers. Having not seen these since our trip to Taipei in 2013, we eagerly order a serve knowing full well that we've again, over ordered. The food arrives quickly, each steamer basket hitting the table within minutes of each other. First to arrive, are the Pork Xiao Long Bao. These dumplings are everything. Hand crafted with supreme care, these ginger-infused pork dumplings are reminiscent of finely folded origami. Each possessing 18 folds in order to perfectly encase its delicate broth, they are joyous & a product of scientific precision. Next up are the beautifully spicy Shrimp & Pork Wonton's. Possibly my favorite offering on the menu, these delicately prepared, chili oil wonton's pack the perfect combination of both sweet & savory. With a sauce consisting of crushed Sichuanese peppercorns, I could confidently order these spicy little parcels as my last meal on Death Row... Take note family. The Shrimp & Pork Jiao Ze are next & as with the Xiao Long Bao, they are delightful. The shrimp giving each of these dumplings a crisp bite that balances beautifully with the slow simmered pork broth. Last, but not least, we dive fully into the Pork & Prawn Potstickers & the Pork Chop with Fried Rice. The pork is as tender as we've come to expect throughout the years & the Potstickers, with strong notes of leek & celery, a welcome addition to our usual 'Fung' repertoire. Spectacular. As with all of the food at Din Tai Fung, the offering here is consistent & it goes without saying that their dumplings are second to none. The sheer quality, a testament to their much coveted Michelin Star. Bravo. We roll out the door a short time later to rejoin the cold masses, satisfied, yet bordering on uncomfortable. With bellies full & a spring in our step, we will be back... probably next week! read more

I love this place! so organised a little pricey but worth it! Great vibrant flavours, the best dumplings in town I always go for the steamed pork dumplings (xiao long bao)they are amazing and highly recommend! Fried rice and a blue fizzy drink is also my top pick, I always like to try something new from there! I would have rated them 5 stars but sometimes there dumplings are a little to dry but never the Xiao long bao!! Always stick to them and you can't go wrong! read more

I find sometimes these chains are hit and miss. This particular Din Tai Fung is a WINNER. The service was great the food was excellent, I tried the truffle Xiao Long Bao for the first time and it was amazing. Filled with yummy soup and also a slice of truffle, can say I was pleasantly surprised. The crispy chicken and rice was also great. The fried chicken wasn't at all greasy, it was crispy and fresh. The rice was just as tasty to match. I can't ever go past the hot and sour soup, it was full of tofu, mushrooms and meat. Totally worth a visit!! The only thing I don't like is that they slam the food out way to quickly! read more

Located inside Westfield Miranda, the main reason for visiting Din Tai Fung was their special offering for the month of November of the Giant Xiao Long Bao. It looked fascinating getting a soup dumpling the size of a steamer basket. The service was fairly attentive and polite. We were seated quickly at a table and as per usual, you select the items you want off the paper and hand it back to them. I liked the interior of this restaurant. We chose a selection of dishes that included Giant Xiao Long Bao, Chicken Dumpling, Egg Fried Rice With Pork Chop, and Crumbed Chicken Fillet With Noodles (Soup). The dishes were tasty. The xiao long bao was massive but it was mostly soup with a filling of mushrooms, a small prawn ball, and a small pork meatball. You get a straw to suck out the soup from the dumpling! read more

DTF! This place never disappoints and going to the Miranda restaurant is usually a quicker seating process than the city venues so you get food in your gob quicker, HOORAY! Their famous Xiao Long Bao dumplings are one of a kind and the best dumplings you can get in Sydney. I also recommend: any of the fried rice dishes, green beans with minced pork, fried chicken and any of the wonton soups. read more

Like a stereotypical Shire resident, I did not go to the city to try DTF. I waited for DTF to come to The Shire. If anything is worth doing, it eventually makes its way over the bridge. But I'm sorry Andrew O, I just wasn't that impressed. The xiao long bao were good. The fried chicken fillet, while cooked nicely, could have benefited from some seasoning. The Kung Pao chicken was one of the best I've had, but the small serve didn't come close to matching the $16.80 price tag. All the hype around the DTF chain had me really excited and I just found the experience a bit of a let down. I can't see myself going back. read more

I was curious to check this place out. I had heard a lot of hype and quite enjoy a good ol dumpling. The place was busy and service quite good. Overall very friendly and attentive. The food came out progressively and is made to share which I'm totally cool with. My friend and I tried the pork dumplings, prawn & pork dumplings! 6 per portion (with the option of increasing to 8) I found them to be really like and enjoyable. It was the first dumpling experience I've had where they were more soup like. It was ok - personally prefer the harder ones with more filling. Due to the soupiness (is that a word?!? Haha) beware to not accidentally prick your dumpling cause whoopsie there goes your flavor haha. This also means it was a one bite per dumpling experience (a bit like play school right?? "Open wide, come in side, it's dumpling soup" hahaha) sorry I type as I think.... The experience was positive. The food was nice. Went to Miranda to do banking and other boring stuff early sat mornin. Feeling a bit hungry from all the walking and physical banking activities, was about to settle for good ol bacon and eggs when I realised...no! Miranda is all grand now, they have magical things to offer like Ding Tai Fung, Messina, mood lighting, skinny mirrors and unicorns. So off I went looking for the foodcourt (that's seems to be the DTF trend) only to find myself face to face with a real DTF restaurant, with proper crockery and adult glass cups! There's indoor and outdoor seating, the modern-western decor doesn't really match what they serve but it makes this a very nice date restaurant. We ordered a serving of dumpling each, plus noodles and they were all very nice, on par with world tower restaurant. They're located on the outside of Westfield, facing Kingsway which means you don't need to roam around a shopping centre looking for dumplings and you're not restricted by the centre's hours. I've always loved dumplings and the World Square Din Tai Fung, but this place was disappointing. I was excited to check out the new restaurants at Westfield Miranda and was immediately drawn to Din Tai Fung having been to the World square one before and loved it! Unfortunately the vibe of this place isn't as good. Firstly we were seated upstairs and because we didn't know there was a downstairs, we didn't know to ask to sit down there. The front section of the restaurant (with the nicest views) was closed. We were with two friends and ordered a selection of dumplings and buns to share, but we're disappointed by the significantly pared back menu compared to other stores. As someone who doesn't eat pork or chicken, ordering was extremely difficult and even when I didn't find some seemingly vegetarian dishes, they turned out to contain meat. This was tricky and I only ended up able you eat a vegetable bun and and spinach and mushroom dumpling. For the size of the portions, the prices are high and the decor feels tacky, further reason that it feels overpriced. All in all, not a great experience and I probably won't return. read more

I've had better dumplings and Asian fusion inspired meals. Some dishes were a hit, others were a miss but I don't think I'll be back as I didn't feel satisfied but a little sluggish after the meal. I particularly liked 2 dishes: the peppered beef (cooked well with lots of flavour) and a spicy chicken dumpling. All the other food I thought was a little greasy, flavourless and gluggy. read more

Steamed pork dumplings are sooooo yum! Kung pow chicken a little spicy but goes well with the steam rice. The pork bun was a little dry and would not order it again. Mint lychee juice was FABULOUS!!! Don't be deterred by the long line up, people are usually quick to eat the small portions. Perfect for sharing especially since I like to eat a little of everything. Can be a little noisy but what good Asian restaurant isn't? read more

This is the worst Din Tai Fung location I have been to in the world. The dumpling were served lukewarm not piping hot. There was no chill or vinegar available for dipping. It was so disappointing, I've been to many Din Tai Fung locations around the world and this felt like a completely different restaurant. read more

Less than impressed! Limited menu with poor service & small portions. We ordered 2 dishes and rice. The first dish and rice came out together, we then waited another 10 minutes for the second dish which never arrived. When we asked about the missing dish it then took another 30 minutes. By this time we were over it. Let's just say we won't be rushing back anytime soon. read more
