Pork and shrimp shiumai was more like shrimp and pork soup dumplings. Not as hearty or hearty as what I'm used to. The hargow was decent. Nothing special.

Well, it's a painfully sad Covid impacted food court in Westfield but still steaming up delicious.

Xiao Long Bao for brunch...YES! Fantastic brunch at Din Tai Fung with the wife. We were immediately seated and the hostess pulled out a tableside basket to hold our bags and purse. We ordered via the iPad on the table and were able to delay our dessert until after our meal. The XLB are always delicious here, soup was on point in every bite 5/5. Next we had the fried wonton with sweet chili sauce and mayo 5/5 good to the last bite. The cha jiang noodle reminds me of Chinese spaghetti bolognese and was Bomb! We devoured everything in preparation for our Yetti fun bun dessert. The Yetti fun bun was a large bun with three mini buns inside. The red was red velvet inside, purple was blueberry cheesecake and orange was chocolate filled. The bun had the perfect sweetness to it 5/5 and they serve a small dish of extra chocolate sauce for dipping. The staff was very pleasant and were quick to clean the table after each dish. Definitely return here for more XLB and other dishes!

DTF all day err day. I was thrilled to see that there were a handful of Din Tai Fung locations in Sydney, and quickly made reservations for lunch while we were there. We came around 11:30 and were immediately seated, no reservation needed, but it filled up pretty quickly after that with the lunch rush. We opted for two orders of the pork XLB, the DTF specialty--we've had them at other locations and know they're the real deal, the giant seafood and pork rainbow dumpling (a special they were running for Vivid!), an order of the golden lava bun, and a couple of beers. The pork XLB was everything. Plop one of those bad boys into your soup spoon, sprinkle a couple of vinegar-soaked ginger slices, and *chefs kiss* you've got perfection. The unfathomably thin wrapper is the perfect housing for the hearty pork and flavorful broth. A bite sized lil nugget that'll blow you away, you absolutely have to try the original dumps at least once in your life. The giant rainbow dump was super pretty, but ultimately pretty gimmicky. It didn't by any means taste bad, but the rest of their menu definitely surpasses the quality of it. I did like that it was served with an actual straw for the broth though. It was a pretty successful gimmick. The golden lava bun was also really good. The bao itself was soft and pillowy, and the custard inside really did flow like molten delicious lava. My only small gripe? That it comes with literally just one small bao in the order. Despite my small nitpicks, Din Tai Fung remains probably my favorite "chain" restaurant in the world. I'm a real sucker for a solid xiao long bao. A high recommend for every single person to stop what they're doing right now and go shove 16 of them in their faces immediately.

Wow disappointing - the beef noodle soup had soggy noodles. Beef modestly tender. Soup very rich. I am a bit of a DTF addict and I've been to so many. Was surprised their food quality was not as good as others. We went on a Thursday at 5 pm so perhaps it was a change of shift. The black sesame buns were still killer. The baby snow pea leaves were excellent. Service is a bit strange with the IPAD for ordering, but not impossible.

Soooooo so good!!! Highly recommend this place! Pork dumplings are a must and their fried rice is amazing. So is their beef with honey sauce. Can't go wrong with anything in this menu!

Never a disappointingeal. We were rampaging all over Sydney, found this place while we were in China Town. We stopped in for a quick snack, got some soup dumplings, some truffle dumplings and a couple other things. At home in the Bay Area reservations take a while. Here in Sydney the Friday lunch rush still leaves room for a party of 6 with no wait. Thanks guys for the best fast snack I've had in a while. The service was also top notch. This is my second favorite Din Tai Fung, Hong Kong being my first.

The restaurant had no more than four parties when we arrived for a late dinner on a Monday night around 8pm. Then again, Lynn isn't very easy to spot if you're strolling along Castlereagh St, which may explain the emptiness. It's pretty standard to order xiao long baos at a Shanghainese restaurant. So of course, we got one order of #701 XLBs, along with #801 Shanghai Noodles with Shredded Pork and Vegetables and #805 Vegetable and Pork Wontons in Noodles with Hot and Spicy Sauce. The XLBs weren't amazing. The pork meat was bland, and the soup was very light and not as flavorful as I hoped. However, the skin was perfect: delicate and thin, yet sturdy enough to hold the meat and soup, and it had good texture. The Shanghai noodles weren't special either. I liked the variety of veggies and pork, but the dish overall needed more salt as it was tasteless and lacked any depth. The wontons and noodles in a hot and spicy sauce was a very heavy dish. Noodles had a very thick, starchy texture. Wontons were generously stuffed with a large amount of filling, mainly shredded vegetables because I didn't taste the pork, and the skin was too thick and chewy. The sauce was extremely spicy, and it irked me when we weren't automatically given water refills when our glasses were clearly empty. Lynn is a huge restaurant, so it can accommodate large groups. It's also very clean and modern. Service wasn't rude, but they certainly weren't attentive either. The only reason we tried this place was because they had a takeaway menu available at our hotel. The menu looked promising, but after dining here, we left unimpressed.

Well, as much as I like the dumplings at DTF, I don't think they're THE BEST EVER...and not for the price you pay. So I started a search on other soup dumplings in the city and came across Lynn Shanghai, as it opened up relatively recently. The place is a little hard to find, the sign is small and it's actually inside a building so you have to walk through a lobby to get into the restaurant. The building is located next to the Scientology building (why, I don't know) and that's all you need to know to find it. The place is a lot bigger than anticipated, and there's an open kitchen so you can see the dumplings and food being made. The chefs all wear masks so you can feel relieved you aren't getting stank breath on your food. The menu is rather extensive and offers all sorts of cuisine from Shanghai, but I came for the dumplings. Pan fried and steamed please. For $8.80, you get 6 dumplings...not the cheapest but cheaper than DTF and just as good...if not BETTER. Seriously, I don't know what the fuss is about DTF, the dumplings are pretty small and while tasty, they're not that tasty. There also isn't much of a wait for this place as it's still relatively new, so if you're feening for some soup dumplings and don't want to queue at DTF, this is the place to go. I haven't been back to DTF since.

I just needed food, tasty food, and a table full of it. Bao Dao delivered. In spades. Big ones. Cheap ones. Hot, steaming, spicy, delicious ones. You order off a big plastic picture menu, there's a ton of small-sized dishes at ridiculous prices - most everything is between $4 and $7, with sides around $3. So you just point at about a thousand things that look good and 5 minutes later you're heffing in like John Goodman at a buffet. I don't like to blow my own horn (unless I'm alone and something with Mandy Moore is on TV), but I ordered the $hit out of that place. Everything that came was epic, from the pulled pork with sweet peanut rolls to the oily lamb broth to the fried coriander chicken to the suuuuper spicy dumplings with pickled cucumber to the pork sauce rice with century egg. Guh. Getting giddy just thinking about it. So go. Try. The Taiwanese girl is waiting. She wants you inside her.
