Service was great and the food was amazing and plentiful. I would highly recommend Dines Restaurant. It's also family friendly.

My husband and I went to dinner there one night, the inside looked dull and dingy. The waitress took us to our seat and that is when we had to ask her to wipe the table because it was sticky. We both ordered off the dinner menu, to which I received a small salad with my meal. The salad looked great but when I touched the bowl it was filthy on the side of the bowl, kind of disgusting. The waitress took my salad back and asked me if I would like another one, to which I said no,my husband finished half his meal and we left, never to return again. We decided to stop off at this diner after hanging at the mall across the street. We were trying to decide if we wanted fish and chips or diner and decided on the latter. Let me say this. The exterior looked a lot more inviting than the inside. It was a little dark when we entered the diner and felt a bit run down. We were seated after checking in. Daughter ordered the Cheeseburger with side of poutine ($2). It comes with fries but there's a $2 upcharge to substitute the fries for poutine. Hubs liked the poutine alot. Daughter liked her order a lot, too. She thought it was satisfying and decent. The texture was good but nothing to write home about. Hubs ordered the Smoked Meat Sandwich. The bread was rye. He said that it's not Katz's of NYC, but it's all right. He asked for onion on the sandwich and got it. Lastly, I got waffles with bananas and thought it was ok but wasn't crispy. I was hoping for authentic Canadian syrup but I don't think I got it because I wasn't charged extra for it. Service was friendly and quick but I don't think I will be returning. Pretty awesome cheeseburger for the price. Big portion size even for a big guy who's picky on burgers. Fixins were fresh, peameal was perfectly cooked and high quality, and the big homemade patty was also an easy 8/10. Fries were a little better than decent, coleslaw is a nice touch too. Dines has a reputation for being the place to go to for a great breakfast and other traditional "Diner" food. Haven't eaten here, I don't know how it got that reputation other than location. It is close to the Oshawa Centre, and not far from Downtown, so is easy to find. When I go out for breakfast I want it to at least taste better than I can cook for myself. I'm no expert chef, but even I can do eggs and has browns better than what is served here. Staff are hit and miss. Some are very friendly and make you feel welcome, others are rather surly and make you wish you hadn't walked through the door. For the price charged I don't feel the food is worth it. read more

The Montreal smoked meat was very good. It went nicely with mustard. The steak on a kaiser was also tasty. It comes with HP sauce and side of coleslaw which was nice and tangy. Staff was very kind - they gave me a new drink when I spilt my pop. Will be back again to try other items on the menu. read more

I hadn't been here in years and I was in town and needed breakfast. It's a great place to make a quick breakfast stop. The food came out very quick and the service was also amazing. I ordered the bacon and eggs, which also came with toast and home fries. Eggs were cooked perfectly over easy. Everything was just as I'd expect and want from a diner breakfast. Old style diner with so-so food. Half the charm in these places is that the atmosphere is relaxed (which it is) and the wait staff are friendly (which they aren't). Nevertheless, if you're looking for a basic meal with no fuss, this would be the place. The prices are a tad steep...but nothing to go on about in a review...like I just did. read more

Dines overall is a good local diner, it has a comfy atmosphere but could use a bit of a renovation. They serve everything from open faced roast beef sandwiches dripping in gravy, to pastas & fish dishes. Additionally, they have a good array of desserts for those with a sweet tooth. Why on earth people think it's just a breakfast place I haven't the faintest clue. The food served here is better than the well-marketed American East Coast diner Denny's in my opinion. The customer service is not exceptional but standard, will come back for more in the future to try their other dishes! read more

This was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. I thought I would try something different since I had some time to kill between appointments and regretted my choice. I had the smoked meat sandwich with fries and gravy. The smoked meat sandwich was boring, the bread was falling apart as I was biting into it. The french fries when they first arrived were so scolding hot I couldn't even touch them and when I finally did they were just OK. The gravy was lacking any kind of flavour. The entire meal was lacking entire flavour. The tastiest thing about my meal was my root beer. However the service was excellent and my waitress was very friendly and attentive. So kudos to her but not to the restaurant. I will never go back. read more

Haggy and I wanted to eat a decent breakfast before we began the drive home from Oshawa. I used the around me app and located dines restaurant. We found a very down-to-earth rather worn appearing restaurant with a friendly waitstaff. We waited almost no time for our orders of Eggs Benedict. In Ontario what I would prefer to as Canadian bacon is called peameal. It is prepared differently and is very tasty. My wife and I were starving for dinner and this place was the closest to us. Very disappointing to say the least. The place wasn't busy for dinner. My wife ordered breakfast for dinner considering this is a breakfast diner. Sadly, I believe the bacon that was served was from the breakfast rush. It tasted very old, hard and flavourless. Her eggs were a bad shade of brown and the home fries were old and cold. I ordered a corned beef sandwich which tasted dull and the texture like rubber. I drank an over priced chocolate milkshake that was served to me in a plastic cup. We tried getting our server's attention but she was more interested in pretending to be busy because she was embarrassed to serve our order. She new we were going to send it back. We finally sent my wife's meal back with a different server. We just wanted the bill and run. Since it is an open concept kitchen, we were able to see the short order cook look at the order, laugh, give it a dirty look, and throw it out. A while later, our server delivered our bill, a $5 come back coupon, and an apology from the manager who was too busy in an empty restaurant to address our complaints. We paid the $25 bill even tho my wife barely touched her meal and I only ate half of mine. We left the coupon since we never plan on wasting time here again.We also left hungry. Ate here about a week ago! There was a curly hair on my burger, thought i would just eat the fries and noticed another hair in thier as well! When i told the owner/manager, it seemed to me (by his reaction) this happens often! I was not charged for my order, but still I would not recommend this place to anyone! One more thing; upon leaving this place, i noticed the garbage area is full of RATS, yes RATS! I have never seen a Rat in Oshawa until i saw this, there were at least 30-40 RATS routing through the garbage area out behind this place! I was so disgusted i called the health department and they are investigating! read more
