She makes sure to keep you engaged and participating, she gives plenty of breaks, and taught the course speedily so we were even able to end ahead of schedule! And the price for the course was the lowest I could find! I dreaded it but I am pleased to say I got through it and now I'm on the other side of my continuing education feeling confident with my refreshed knowledge of the business, AND time to spare. The activities they do for their mixed-aged…read moreclassroom are not suitable for 2-year-olds which include using scissors (not safety scissors) with inattentive supervision (adults in the room but not interacting with the children), and punitive and outdated discipline methods that violate OSSE policies including withholding outdoor play for timeouts. The school has attempted to charge us fines for late pickups and later retracted those fees citing their own errors. Our child came home injured from this school and instead of being aware of it or responding with accountability, the school chose to blame my 2-year-old because he wasn't asleep during nap time and the staff couldn't be bothered to attempt to soothe him while he cried on the floor. I tried multiple times to partner with this school to support my child in this environment but they do not have any desire to work with parents, improve their services, or modify their activities to current best practices in any way. If you want your child in a loving and safe environment, this is not the place for you. The director, Susan Banks sends unprofessional, bizarre, and discriminatory emails. She also does not follow FERPA laws as can be evident from her online activity. Enrollment at this school is licensed to have 28 students but never had more than 12 signing in on the sign-in sheet during our time there, maybe this is for good reason. My daughter was in the Mandarin program with Ms. Jing. While under her tutelage, my daughter has become proficient in speaking Mandarin and writing over 100 characters. In addition, she has a solid foundation in math and reading, both above grade level. During COVID and after COVID, when public schools were still trying to figure it out, the Director and Ms. Jing worked with me and created a solid curriculum to ensure my daughter would not get behind in her grade level prior to her transitioning out of the program. Ms. Jing really connected with her, cheered her on, provided a gentle push when needed, was caring, funny and met her where she was in her educational journey. She really went above and beyond during our time at Mindbloom. She is truly appreciated and made a lasting impression with me and my daughter. I truly value the time my duaghter spent with her and the MB family.

I went to one class and immediately saw all of the red flags!!!! However, we were given copies of copies (yes-i know sounds crazy.) but, yes the ink was faint and Gray. As a study guide which only included words and definitions. Nothing remotely close to what would be on a national exam. They had a Ten Commandments of phlebotomy that we had to take turns reading... myself and the two other students in the class. Just three of us. That stated things like, "Thy shall know when to quit." I wish I could attach photos to this review to show everyone. Also, the text book we were told be a E-book but it wasn't even that. It was a older text book from six years ago that was scanned or copied into a computer and sent as a PDF file. The pages weren't even aligned properly and it was only seven chapters, that they expected us to print at 27 pages a chapter. Also, I was told no lab coat but we get a pin. Mr. Davies was the instructor who barely could pronounce some of the medical terminology in class and had on a ID tag that said lab Corp. Who told us after one class of basically just talking and waiting for a fourth student that didn't arrive until an one and a half into a two hour only class- that next class the second class with no medical training or practice on a mannequin as of yet... would be sticking each other. That's when I knew I had call and express my concerns the next day to the woman who I spoke to upon enrollment. Ms. Tee who text messaged me that I was moving to fast and that I didn't need a whole book and that I would get what I needed in notes. Also, that they never give out lab coats or a hard text book. So I took a screen shot of the website and sent it to her. She responded she wouldn't go back and fourth with me and to call her. When I called her she told me I should drop out of the class- so I asked for a refund which she said no. I would never get my money back. Since I went to one class and $575 wouldn't make or break their company. Before she hung up on me.. then I was called by a man named Mr.Lee who told me he was the director and to give them a chance if he got my a book. I relied no thank you I didn't feel comfortable and then he said If he returned my money that it be fees deducted. It wasn't until I mentioned the better business bureau and reporting the company for fraud that he sent me a full refund via PayPal. I really wish I could share the text messages and emails from this company if you can even call it that. ITS A SCAM!!! The Belair location is literally in a basement. They lie and make the price low so that people will sign up and don't give what's promised. Also, they put students who have no experience in positions to harm one another. No way someone without experience or knowledge of anatomy and physiology should be sticking each other on day 2. It's reckless and in my opinion they basically sell certifications. A class that is twice a week for 4 weeks at only two hours a class- should be conducted in a more professional manner. Making printer copies of vocabulary words isn't preparation for a national exam. And scanning documents from a out dated textbook and calling it an E-book is insane!! The only reason I even attended this school was the Red Cross no longer offers classes and it was near by. Lesson learned!!! IF YOU VALUE YOU QUALITY EDUCATION- PICK A REAL SCHOOL WITH A LAB AND QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

Word to the wise: google maps will lead you to the side opposite of the parking lot entrance, so turn right then left on the next street to get to the soccer fields. overall, fields are pretty solid condition (separate fields for football and soccer), with bleachers on the side. Doesn't have as much problem with beads piled up (like Wash Lee) or holes in the field (RFK aux field). Ample parking, trash cans...no bathrooms though from what I could find.

Wasn't too long after graduation that I realized that St. John's more than prepared me for the next level. The curriculum is challenging. You aren't allowed to float by and you are getting the tools needed to thrive beyond college. Critical thinking and reasoning were skills imparted to you. Athletics could have been stronger, but it's picking up a lot of steam. It helps that the CEO of Under Armour, Kevin Plank, is a SJC alum. This school will continue to grow and will undoubtedly be an elite institution for years to come.

I have no doubt that my child is ready for college based on their experience at Burke. It's a warm and welcoming community with academic rigor, but kids are not as stressed out as some other schools. Kids are taught to be independent thinkers and to self advocate. It's an urban school so wonderful opportunities to explore the city. Sports facilities are lacking, but an easy compromise to make for the location. Sports teams are no cut which means kids can play sports every season if they choose.

It's a little sad that a very small number of parents have taken to Yelp to air grievances, because in our experience the vast majority of parents - and students - are thrilled to be at the school. The idea that CHDS does not take bullying seriously is just plain wrong, as is the idea that the school does not listen to feedback. The truth is, the Head of School is wonderfully accessible (we know this from personal experience) and has a reputation as one of DC's best and longest-serving educational leaders. The teachers are devoted, respond quickly to questions and concerns, and focus on student-centered, inquiry-based learning. The parents get along with each other and build friendships outside of class. The field trips teach soft skills and critical thinking far more rapidly than everyday classroom learning. The building is beautiful, the student body is diverse, the faculty turnover is low, the communication robust, and the destinations for graduates impressive. Most important, our daughter comes home from school happy each day.
