I appreciate the smaller classes (compared to a regular gym) and the direction from the coaches when I do something incorrectly (which is common, because I'm uncoordinated and out of shape but working on it, LOL). It's like having a personal trainer without the added cost of a personal trainer. As someone who typically hates exercise, I look forward to my OT classes!

I started coming here on a whim a few weeks ago as I kept hearing family members who are either…read moredoing OTF or lost a lot of weight doing OTF. It kinda bugged me, so I decided to try a class on a whim. After that, I decided the only way to get myself right is to commit to this for at least a year. And that, I ended up doing. If you know a little about Orangetheory, it's really great for anyone in any shape. For me - a gym avoider - it's been good because the instructors really do help coach you. My form is absolutely terrible and I've been using OTF to learn everything from scratch. It was rough the first few gos, but it's been getting better day by day. This location is good as it's only about 10 mins or so away from my home. As someone who works from home all the time, I've taken advantage of both the morning and afternoon classes. I find the 8:15am class to be the perfect wake-up call to start the week. I then utilize the 12pm class mid-week for the specialized strength and tread classes. Works perfect for me as the strength class breaks up the cardio a little bit. I also added a Saturday AM class too. Bathrooms are nice and clean in here. Also, the front desk people are usually pretty nice. The instructors I've worked with - Justin, Boo, Brian, and Tansey - are super nice people too. Only thing is that Yelp ought to tweak the hours because it's not like there are classes every hour. But that's out of my control....

As healthy as I am, I was experiencing some hip pain every time I got out of bed. I read that women over 50 start losing a significant amount of bone mass. I decided to join Planet Fitness for strength training. Not sure why the low ratings for this location but it's a solid 5 for me. - the workers here always keep this place in tip-top shape. - everyone is very respectful of one another. - lockers and restrooms are spotless. - even when the gym is packed I am able to use all the machines in my workout rotation. Remember, fitness and good nutrition go hand in hand. I load up on protein during the weekday and my cheat days are for the weekends. No matter what your fitness goals are, it's never too late to join no matter how old you are. I want to be able to sprint up a flight of stairs easily when I am in my 60s and 70s. My 23 year old son encourages me to be in the best shape I can be. I look to him for inspiration. This location recently went through a renovation. They did an awesome job. #NaturalEndorphins

After discussing my goals and eating habits, work hours, etc., I was told Ellen would be a good fit for me as my trainer. Honestly, she is a blessing. I do a combination of strength training, cardio, and yoga. At 48 I did not realize how important stretching (that literally takes maybe 5 minutes) is for my body and how different I feel starting my day with a couple moves. I enter Yvette's with a willingness to work out and leave there feeling stronger, clearer, and just good. The cost is not astronomical, it's actually very fair. It's worth it. It's your body. The girls there are nothing but supportive. This is not a pretentious atmosphere. It is a place to get healthy, talk about what want to achieve, and having a workout that is suited for you. Give it a try, talk to the other girls who train there, you won't be disappointed. Did I mention there is a coffee/tea bar when you walk in? Perk!

I didn't know how I would feel but after my first day of working out, but I absolutely loved it. I was excited to learn the machines and what they can do for you. Don't compare yourself to others around you. Go at your own pace and slowly build yourself up when you feel comfortable. Since joining, I've already noticed a difference. I've gained more energy, better posture, my arms & legs are more tone and best of all, I'm slowly seeing that waistline I used to have in my 20s. The bicycles, ellipticals, stair climbers & treadmills are each spaced out allowing you to use them without anyone next to you. My least favorite is the stair climber as it's the hardest one for me and I don't enjoy it. But I will keep at it because I know it's going to do wonders for my glutes. Everyone I've seen using the equipments has been diligent in wiping down each machine before & after they are done. Huge tubs of wipes are available for use. The staff is friendly. Just the other day, the manager was nice enough to ask me how I was enjoying the gym. Temp checks are taken before you are allow to workout. From the moment you walk in there, the staff at the front desk, the managers, coaches, and even the gym members are really cool. They greet you even though they don't know you(be social and get to know them then). The place is kept sharp. I mean off the hook sharp. It's not a musclehead jock type ego filled gym. One word of caution: DO NOT LET THE WORD GYM FOOL YOU. UFC Gym is much more than that. It's your membership. Make the best of it. As for me, I've never felt more alive taking classes and meeting my fitness goals. 223 now and will be 200 and under by the end of the year. Don't ever want to leave either. GO FOR IT! Manager said it's not protocol or standard to receive points for smoothie purchases (despite me receiving 7 points when the well-trained employees scan my code AND despite the earning rules saying you earn a point for each $ spent). Why her solution to me was for me to tell the associate I want it on my account? I'm not sure. I tell them this each and every time. Instead of taking accountability and saying she would retrain or refresh her staff on the points earned for purchases protocol, the manager diverted the blame to me. I am disappointed and will not be buying smoothies and likely won't return here.

The steps are fast, so I had to concentrate to keep up the pace. I was not expecting it to be like dance moves. There was this one lady in the class who kept yelling out SUPER loud every time we did a power move, thrust,or jerk. Perhaps she was over caffeinated or just high on life... I'on know, but she was *extremely^ annoying. Anywho... I must give credit to the class instructor (whose name I believe is Alisha - based on the schedule at the desk). She was very sweet. She recognized that I was a newbie and ran through the moves one time before going at full speed. The rest of the class were obviously regulars because they had their moves down to a T. Altogether, Zumba class at Retro Fitness was a fun, heart- pumping, booty shaking experience!
