I purchased their service through Costco. If you see their people in Costco don't walk away....run away. I moved and without notification they added 12 months to my contract. I asked if they were going to change the contract. They said "oh no we never do that". Guess what. They did and it cost $190 early termination. Don't believe customer service on anything. I would rate it 0 if I could. I was with DirecTV for 20 years. Since being acquired by AT&T it has been a nightmare of continuous lies and fraud. I canceled 2 months ago and have been routinely lied to since then. Today my husband was told they are going to fire the employee who talked to us last rather than live up to their obligations. Impossible to talk to someone you can understand and they read from a script and either won't listen to you and continue talking or start over on their script once they've heard your complaints. My bill keeps going up and at the same time, I have to constantly decrease my channel package to keep my bill the same. Once their promotions go away (and they will), you end up paying close to $100 per month for their basic package which is total crap. Their satellite boxes are extremely slow; takes forever to do something simple like change a channel. Frequent picture freezing. The service is so horrible. The NFL ticket was added to my account back in September. I did not request it. That was the beginning of what has turned out to be a four month nightmare. I have spoken to service reps and supervisors attempting to cancel the nfl package and receive a refund. Each time I call I am told that the service has been canceled and that a refund will be credited to my account. Not true. I have been charged four times and have received one refund. I received my December bill with the nfl charge again and no refund. Spent another 30 minutes on the phone and was promised that all us taken care of. I doubt it. I have only had direct tv for five months. Crazy. And I have a two year contract. Ill be canceling when my contract is up. Since being taken over by AT&T this company has gone down hill. Thursday I had a live chat as my remote failed to connect or be programmed. I was ASSURED by the rep it would be here Friday close of business. Then FEDEX sent notice it would be five days after that?! So I went on another chat and now I see in an attempt to push me off, this chat rep said by Sunday close of business. It is SUNDAY 6pm, no new remote, and of course while it was on the FEDEX truck at 6 this morning it hasn't been brought out. If you can get any other company besides Direct TV, I would. DIRECTV came out to put the satellite receiver back on my roof. It had been removed because we were doing construction. The technician that came out left cable hanging loosely down the side of our home and he even left cable tangled in our flower bushes and he never fixed it. And This cost us $50! $50 for the tech to come out and ruin our landscaping. When I called to have the tech come back out and fix his work I was told that it would be another $50 charge. So now I am going to switch TV providers that was just too much to think that Directv takes no responsibility to come out and fix their bad work. read more

If you are going to cancel service because of a price increase, make sure they cancel the day you call. They will try and get you to call back at a later date stating they will have a special then. When you call back at the later date and they have no special that interests you, it will be too late to cancel before the next bill and you will be charged the new rate which in my case was $55 higher than what I was currently paying. I cannot tell you how many things are wrong with this service. The sales people are liars, their account associates are poorly trained, their tech staff, however, is patient and does work with you. They have to. It takes hours on the phone and I am NOT exaggerating to clear up the mistakes and misinformation the other departments make. Customer Service is horrible. Stay away from ATT/Directv. They offered me a $300 VISA Rewards Card to come back. I was told I would get it in 1-3 months. I realized I never received the card. When I called, they said they sent an activation letter in September (along with at least weekly junk ads that we kept getting) and that the offer expired last December. I either never got it or tossed it thinking it was junk mail. They know this but will not honor the offer. I was expecting a gift card, not an offer letter. Great way to get out of honoring your offer. I wonder how many offers they get out of this way? Can't wait for my contract to be over. Beware of the shady tactics this company uses. I had the unfortunate need to contact Direct TV on Saturday 08/04/18 due to a "hard drive" failure on my DVR. First I tried all of the things you normally would do: reset, restore defaults, run system test, and unplug from power-wait-then plug in again, all to no avail. When I called the 1-800 number on my screen, I was not given any opportunity to put in the extension number in the message but instead had to wait on a rep coming on the line. Who then wanted to run all the same tests. And then she informed me that due to system update and account conversion (to AT&T billing) I would need to CALL THEM BACK! on next THURSDAY. I said that was unacceptable, that a tech had been out on April 9 for the same reason and HE was told by the home office, while on site in my home, that they couldn't register and start up a new DVR for me because my account "was being converted". Four months to convert?? AT&T needs to get their act together. So I told the rep that I would like to cancel my account and would be getting another provider. Whereupon I was transferred to their "loyalty department". I repeated my story, and after being on hold for 30 minutes this new rep apologized and said there was nothing they could do. My account is an "old" one (I guess that means original Direct TV) and they couldn't even cancel it for me because it wasn't converted yet. (They certainly have been happy to keep taking my money all these months!) So I'll be contacting Dish ASAP, probably will save some $ too. Do not go with Direct TV. After your initial 1st year your service amount is doubled and you will pay an extra $800 a year. Not to mention that if you request a one year contract they lie and say of course they can do that and when the service goes up twice the amount you were paying they say too bad there is nothing you can do because you actually signed a two year contract the day the technician arrived and signed for installation. I called Dish who gave me a two year contract at a locked in price and much cheaper. Direct TV said I would need to pay $200 for a disconnect early termination charge. After almost 20 as a customer it is finally necessary to drop Direct TV. since ATT bought them the service has finally deteriorated until its no longer worth keeping. My bill keep changing, always up. I call, they reduce service to keep the bill down and after the promotions run out, up goes the bill. Not 5-10 $$ but $50 per month. This last increase went from $90 to $140. The first thing they try to do is cut out some programming to lower the bill. I asked for retention dept. They couldnt offer me anything. I explained they are going to loose me - they really dont care. Went over to Dish - I get all the latest tech, more channels, guaranteed rate for two years, everything is installed free of charge. They seem to appreciate loyalty - not Direct TV. They could care less. I no longer need to fight every year for better rates. They wont ever see me again. Stay away from these criminals. read more

Time for internet TV. Way overpriced for the programming packages, phone service is a menu nightmare with long waits. Equipment is occasionally quirky. Channel changes require long waits, and AT&T has made the menu system even more confusing than ever. If I wasn't one year into a two year contract I would dump this miserable company in favor of Dish. I hear Dish has superior equipment reliability, but does not offer one of my favorite news programs OAN , which Direc TV does offer. But that only goes so far in my book, so there's not much reason to stay after our contract expires. Couldn't be more disappointed with a company. On a positive note, their technicians are competent and professional. But in my book that's the only positive. AT&T you have ruined a descent company experience for your customers. Please be aware that Direct TV will Bait and Switch with you on their monthly billing. They promise you the rate will not increase for 24 months but after 12 months they increase the rate significantly if you have not signed up for additional services such as AT&T mobile phone service. On Oct. 11 we ordered service to our new home; install scheduled for Oct. 29. No one showed up; called a foreign country and talked with 3 individuals for nearly 3 hrs. getting everything untangled with install scheduled on Oct. 31. Halloween morning we got a call from an installer in another state at our OLD address...directv had not put our new address in the right slot on the form! The problems with a bungle,er bundle, with DirecTV/Century Link are legion. Three months ago I was on the phone with them for 1 1/2 hours to set up a new account and was promised a rate of $119. Every month since I've done battle on the phone for 1-2 hours with them. None of them talk to each other! They always have different stories on why! It's the other guy's fault!. There's the rental box and we'd be happy to set up payment plans if you want to buy! Didn't they tell you the bundle doesn't start for 3 months? And they had the audacity to automatically debit my account for monthly payments without my permission. Had to have the bank intervene, stop the payments, and close out my account and set up a new account. The bank called it fraud. DirecTV/Century Link think they're going to wear me down with their confusion and incompetence so I will just give up and pay $58 more a month than what I was quoted. I'm looking for a legal way out to cancel the contract which I don't remember ever getting. Maybe that's the key. read more

I've been a Direct TV customer for many, many years, however since AT&T hooked up with Direct TV, the service has gone down hill. To start, their automated answering service is terrible, which gets one's level of frustration to an all time high. It took us 45 minutes yesterday on 03-28-2019 to finally speak to a customer service person. Anytime you call, whether its billing, customer service, or tech support you are put through hell. We have noticed our bill over the last two years has increased tremendously and it appears they have combined packages to program viewing whether you want them or not without your consent. We are retired and live on a fixed income, now being faced with a yearly expense of $2,700.00. We have enjoyed over the past two & three years our MLB & NFL ticket programing but this is getting way out of hand. The money we pay and the type of service you receive, AT&T should invest their many price increases and use that money to hire additional customer service reps, and update their automated phone system. Although we will miss our MLB, NFL programing it would be a sound decision to cancel our account and go with someone else. read more

I have been a customer of DirecTV since 1996 and have continuously over the years had numerous problems with this company their service as well as customer service. I have been charged for programs and movies of which I never ordered, it seems every month I have to go through my bill to make sure I'm not being charged for these different programming menus. The latest was the service I received when moving. I had set appointment with DirecTV of which they never showed for my appointment. They have since then installed my receiver I have recently experience problems with the picture on my TV set and contacting DirecTV they informed me I would have to purchase a service warranty of $99 in order to come out and take care of my problem. After 21 years of supporting DirecTV I feel I have not throughout the years been treated as a loyal customer. What gets me more is when I see their TV commercials about them being number 1 in Cable customer service. I will let my contract run out with DirecTV and cancel my service with them after 21 years of patriotism to them. I would highly recommend checking other cable providers before choosing DirecTV as your cable provider. read more

While I have had Direct TV for several years with no problems, I unfortunately had to make a claim on the premium insurance that I had been paying premiums on for over a year. My computer's monitor was whacked by lightening and fried. I called to make the claim, gave them my $50 deductible and they said 7 to 10 days. Easy, right? After 17 days I called and they said they forgot to tell me the monitor I had chosen was out of stock, so they gave me another two options. I chose one, they said 3 to 5 business days. Easy, right? After another 5 business days I called and was told that they didn't have that monitor, either. They gave me another two choices. I chose one. Easy, right? They said it would be 2 to 3 business days and I could go pick up my monitor at a local business. I only waited 2 days to call back. I was on the phone with them for literally 1 hour and 12 minutes this time. They said it would be another couple of days before I would receive my voucher via email so I could go and pick up my monitor. I called the local business where I was supposed to pick it up and they said there were no more of them, they weren't getting in and they didn't have them at their warehouse and weren't on order. I called Direct TV's premium insurance back, spending another 45 minutes on the phone with them. They said, "Oh no, we're sure you're going to get one this time." I explained to them about the local business not having any of the monitors available. They said they were sure I would get it. Well, needless to say, I cancelled the insurance. I have never had such a difficult time with any insurance company in my life. I never received an apology from anyone for wasting my time. As I was cancelling, the supervisor told me there would be a $10 charge for cancellation if I hadn't had the insurance for a year, which, thank God, I had. They got my premiums every month which would have more than paid for my monitor. Can you imagine the problems I would have had if I had a television that had gone out, or an Ipad. They talk the talk about the wonderful service, but definitely don't walk the walk. The worst customer service I can actually say I've ever had. Buyer beware. The Direct TV reps will tell you how wonderful the service is. Don't believe them. It's a waste of your time and money. read more
