I have to start off this review with a critique of the other reviews. If you were to listen to the other reviews, you would think bad of this company. I'm here to tell you this has to be one of the best experiences I have ever had with a small family owned company. The integrity that Joel the owner showed is just the best. I try my best to use locally owned companies in Flagstaff and give them a chance to earn my business. I have tried to get service or a replacement fireplace here in Flagstaff for years. All the other companies do not even want to take a look at repairing my fireplace. They all want to replace it. Joel and Wizard's talked to me about evaluating the fireplace before any recommendations. Wow! What a refreshing experience. Joel did a thorough job at looking at all the parts of the fireplace. Explained as he went. I had no idea that the gas fireplace logs "must" be set in a specific configuration for the unit to work properly. He looked up the manual and made sure the fireplace was set up correctly. Once he did his evaluation he got it working in no time at all. Again.... He got my fireplace to work rather than push me to buy a new one like the competition. The value in being able to save over $15,000 was incredible. How can anyone write a bad post or review when clearly this man is genuine and honest!!! I can't stress enough that this is a great company and worth it to you to try them. I will most certainly have them back to do the proper maintenance and when it's truly the time to replace this fireplace Joel and Wizard's will earn my business. read more

I have been a customer for over 20 years and I always have them clean my two pellet stoves once a year. Jason and his son came today and did an awesome job. This is the second time Jason has been here and he is very good. My complaint comes with the fee charged $497 for a 45 minute job. This was up $130 from last year which was up over $100 from the year before!! I'm a 70 year old widow. They don't offer a Senior discount but when I called I was informed that had I had the job done between Memorial day and Labor day I would have gotten a 10% discount. Nice that they never informed me of that after ALL these years. I probably wouldn't have done that because I wouldn't have wanted anyone up on my roof in temperatures of 100 +. I'll be looking for someone else. So much for loyalty. read more

I'd highly recommend that you stay away from this business -not organized, knowledgeable or a company that I would trust... James has been to my home several times - could not clearly communicate what was wrong, or diagnose the issue with my fireplace.. The only thing which was clearly communicated was that there would be a service fee (to be paid upfront), that new parts were needed, and additional charges would apply.. Little things like communicating what was going on with my fireplace, how /when it will be repaired, and next steps - were never communicated even after I followed up with them several times on my own, and ordered additional parts... zero comms or clarity.... Just leaving a review here to warn folks to stay clear.. I'm moving on, and calling another business to service my needs as personally, I've wasted hours of my time, and $$... read more

Jack came out to our cabin to give us a quote on removing a broken pellet stove and replacing it with an electric unit. He was very knowledgeable and seemed to be more thorough than the other companies we had out. However he was one of the most sexist men I have ever dealt with in a professional situation. He repeatedly called me "sweety" "honey" and would talk to my husband rather than me even though I have been the one leading this project and making all the contacts and decisions. My husband and I were both pretty disgusted by the way he spoke to me. Even after that experience we decided to use him for our project because he just seemed to know what he was talking about. Problem is I have not been able to schedule any service. I have called the office a dozen times, every time they act like they have no idea who I am or why I'm calling and say they will call me back. I have never once been called back. Please don't waste your time on this company. read more

Have a Quadra Fire insert stove that I needed to replace a flue gasket on because it was done for. Went in to the store, as I prefer to support local businesses over any other. Upon entering, there were 5 employees, 3 of which were trying to get a stove loaded on to a dolly and 2 women behind the counter. Not a single one acknowledged me. Finally, after a couple minutes, one of the guys asked if I needed some help and I showed him the remnants of the gasket. He looked at it and said, "I have no idea what this is". Seriously? We then walked to the counter where the two women were very short and rather rude to both myself and the other employee. I spent a minute explaining in great detail what the part was, where it came from, and that I needed a replacement. The older lady gruffly told the guy to go check in the little storeroom to see if there was one hanging in there and, if not, to "figure it out". The younger woman made zero attempt to help, leaving the bewildered male employee to stumble around blindly. He then said he had to go help load a stove (how many people does this take? I moved mine by myself!) and disappeared outside, clearly uncomfortable with the way he was just humiliated in front of me by the older woman. I can't blame him for running away... In the meantime while I waited for him to return, another customer walked in the door and both women greeted him with a cheerful hello and the younger one jumped up from behind her desk and went over to help the guy by looking something up for him. WTF? Apparently, unless you're a known quantity to the employees at Wizard's, they don't care about you at all. With that, I just walked out of the store and left, never to return. I ordered the gasket online instead. Stay away from this place unless you're buddy buddy with them, as you'll get blown off. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for a chimney sweep for over a week. They called yesterday to let me know that they may need to cancel based on weather (fair enough), and they would let me know in the morning (today). After waiting around an hour past the appointment time I called to verify that they were not coming due to weather. The rep confirmed that was the case, but would not schedule another attempt for over two weeks. I can't wait that long to be able to use my primary heat source. I understand that the weather is the weather, and I must admit that I would not envy being on a roof today in the snow. I do not understand why it would take two weeks to reschedule what should be a quick job. They obviously do not feel that timely response is necessary in their line of work. If they can't do the basics, I can guarantee that I would not call for anything of consequence. read more

Our community has used Wizards for years, so I was excited to give them my business. Unfortunately, the business is no longer run the way it's founder Jack Wofford ran it and the customer service is abysmal. When I was scheduling install today and I told the gal that we were frustrated and unhappy with our experience so far, she paused and then talked about the install date. She did not acknowledge or address what I said. Coupled with their extremely limited selection, I cannot recommend this business at all. read more

I called Wizard's to address an issue with my fireplace. Jack came out to my home. He was extremely helpful and friendly, and he was able to fix the problem in short order. What a rip off! My husband specifically called them because our flue wouldn't close and the chain was broken high up. We just needed a new chain system. ( This is our first time ever owning a home with a fireplace) We did NOT need anything else because we just purchased the home and had a complete inspection and clean out. This was explained to them. The guy showed up, inspected it anyway, then told him "we don't carry parts". What?? That was the whole point!!!! Then he said "I might have a chain around somewhere ". He charged us $95.00!!!! Then, they called him today (2 weeks later!!) and said they had a chain and it would be $75!!! NO THANK YOU! We just moved here and feel like this is the ONLY company we've had such a bad experience with! I would NEVER recommend them! :( read more

We were trying to heat a 2200 sq ft cabin with a propane furnace and costing ourselves an arm and a leg to do so with no luck. Wizards was amazing start to finish. I am not an easy customer, I pick your brain and examine every option possible. They were back logged for a couple of weeks, but maintained communication each week and installed on time. Jack was extremely informative and never batted an eye to my novice questions. I now know exactly how my stove works, and best of all we are WARM in the house. I would definitely purchase here again, and they will get our business for pellets and all service going forward. Support local business, don't line the pockets of a CEO. You might get your stove cheaper at another location, but have fun getting serviced by that big box store! Wizards is where its at, and they have a customer for life! read more

Amazing Service! That is all I have to say. I called this great company on Friday am b/c my chain to the fireplace flue broke. I really wanted to have a fire and asked if it was possible. They said it would be two weeks out which I expected. But called back a few hours later and said Donnie could come out to Munds Park. Donnie was so friendly and nice and fixed it in about an hour. Had a great experience with Wizard Hearth and home. They made sure I purchased the right stove, despite my wanting a different one. They were so right! Now that it's installed it's clear to me why we needed this stove. Love it. One reviewer complained that whoever came out, probably the owner, was sexist and didn't treat her with respect. My wife and I have dealt with this on many occasions with some contractors and Wizards didn't even come close to treating my wife any differently than myself. In fact, he went out of his way to make sure she was happy with the install in every way. He answered all her questions clearly with no 'mansplaining'. They removed our old stove and installed the new stove with no mess at all. Came when they said they wood. Finished when they said they would. Charged what they said they would. Didn't charge for anything extra ( like hauling off the old stove ). read more

I originally called the company about 6 months ago for a chimney sweep and wood stove cleaning. They came out, but their ladder wasn't tall enough. We rescheduled and the second time they came, their ladder was AGAIN, not tall enough. The third time they came out, I wasn't around and I left the key in a lock box on the front door. I was promised by the owner, Jack, that he would be the ONLY one with the lock box information, and he promised he would be the only one to come out to do the service. He lied... he sent an employee out, who had trouble with the lockbox and instead of letting me know, left our home unlocked for over 24 hours! The owners were very apologetic initially, but then repeatedly failed to follow up with me about some parts they were supposed to order for me, for the stove. I called this evening to follow up, and was understandably frustrated about the continued lack of reasonable service. I was told to "have a nice life" and then hung up on. Please please steer clear of this awful company! Too bad I couldn't give zero stars :-( read more

Always get a second opinion after these guys. Owner is very rude,company tried to rip me off big time. My gas stove/ furnace worked great for the first three years I had lived in my home. Last fall, after a couple hours the pilot would not stay lit. Wizards came out and said I needed a new thermal coupler. It had to be ordered. The next time they could come I was not going to be home but I gave the guy permission to go in and replace coupler. He texted me from my house saying that there was a big crack inside my stove; it would have to be replaced. I asked him to send me a picture, he did and it looked legit. I am a single mom, a teacher, so I freaked, knowing this would be expensive. I should have gotten a second opinion. I called and told them I would order a specific stove from them. I was put on hold. The owners wife came back on the line and said that all of my vent pipes were outdated and needed to be replaced as well. Crushed, I agreed, just put it on a credit card I guess. I didn't hear from them for at least two weeks and it was getting cold. I called again and asked to speak with the owner. I told him I could not afford what they were trying to do and I hadn't even heard from them as far as when it would be done. I told him to cancel my stove order and that I shouldn't have to pay any restocking fees. He became belligerent, interrupting me over and over. My kids and I spent the winter holed up in the master bedroom heated by a baseboard heater. My electric bills were over $400 for about three months, had to get assistance from the county to pay them. This fall, I decided to try and fix the crack with jb weld. I bought all the supplies, went to look at the crack, and there wasn't one. A friend replaced the coupler, and the stove is running fine! Checked the air for CO 2 and there is none. What a fool, I feel like. These guys are total swindlers.Very Disheartening behavior. read more

I called four days ago with a fairly simple issue. I was told it would be 8 days before I could be helped. After four days I called back to see it they had an opening. They said they were busy and would call back. They never called back. I called again and asked if they could fit me in somewhere. They again told me they were too busy. I asked if I should try another place and they told me I should. I called another place and had my issue resolved in 10 minutes by an extremely friendly person. read more

Avoid this place at all costs ... wife called the person on the other end of the line was super nice and he offered a lot of help and seem to be great... we had a stove all picked up I called make sure I had the right vehicle to pick it up talk to a lady I believe her name was Pam I showed up to purchase I have some questions and she was super rude and just wanted me to pay for it right away and push me out of there... I thought it was just me thinking that she was a complete b word but my friend that was with me said he couldn't believe how rude she was.... I ended up not buying the stove and going somewhere else.... in the end I don't know how they stay in business with crappy customer service they can't even talk to somebody like a human... do yourself a favor go anywhere but here unless you like to be abused while spending a ton of money and don't ask any questions while you're spending that money because you will be belittled. read more

Absolutely the best sales and service for wood burning appliances in Flagstaff. You may wait a bit longer for a home service call, but it will be worth it. The services is always top notch and the service tech always explains what he is doing and why. We are very disappointed with Wizards. We have spent thousands dollars on our pellet stove through them and one year in we started experiencing problems. We did a service call to them and they came and told us everything was fine. The stove continued to not work. Finally, after Jack (the owner) came and one other service call he agreed with me the motor was not working. I was told the motor would cost $165 so I told them to go ahead because at this point we did not have our stove during most of the winter season. They sent out a person to fix the stove (missing work again) and he checked our voltage and said everything was fine. When I called he just forgot to put the new motor in. Now another service call a week later he installed it and it was an additional $200. Terrible and very confused service for such a well established company. They did great on the initial set up...terrible on the follow through and aftercare. $500 to have heat after the season...no thanks not again. read more
