Rating this place 4.5 stars. One of my favorite places to get my waxing done. I was recommended to go to this place by a friend. Meghan, the owner is so friendly and welcoming. Pros: I love this space. You can tell it's very clean and the decor is very intentional. The process from booking to getting your service done is seamless and straightforward. I have not tried the other waxers outside of Meghan and Madeline (she has her own space now) but have heard great things. I had a major hairy emergency! I typically wax myself but completely forgot to take care of it prior to my annual office party, where there's a lot of dancing. I didn't want to be a hairy party goer, so I came straight to Yelp! for a recco, and found Dirty Bird Esthetics. I was able to easily make an appointment online with Jessi. The salon is tucked away in a cute brick building on K Street, near 23rd. I arrived a little early for my appointment, and as soon as I walked in, I was taken aback by how adorable, pink, and girly it is! It's a total vibe, with a girly vintage aesthetic, and it smelled good in there too. It's not only an esthetics salon, but also a bonified gift shop with jewelry, lighters, lip gloss, and witchy stuff. Right up my ally. Jessi's room was clean and comfortable, she is very personable, a great conversationalist, and her waxing skills are quick and efficient. She cleaned and prepped the area first, waxed, and applied after care. I felt so comfortable with her, and her skills that I didn't even check to see if she did a good a good job. I just knew that there wasn't a single hair left behind - and there was not. I was able to run over on my lunch break, and was back at work right on time. This place is sooo fire guys let me be honest. It's my first wax in like 10 years, I'm like "I have a real job now, let me get a freaking wax" so I book one. I don't know what Ted talks Jessi has watched or what kind of books she's read about being a conversationalist but I fear i need her to make a skillshare on how to be cool and likable. I'm kind of an awkward person already and then you stack that with being naked on the bottom half in front of a stranger about to rip my pubes off and yeah, I'm gonna be more awkward. Not here! Not with Jessi! Getting actually waxed is arguably not that fun, but I will be doing it again because I think this is just about as fun as a wax can get. She's sweet, charismatic and always gives me a great wax (and gossip sesh). She feels like one of my friends at this point! The vibe is amazing and it feels so cozy and welcoming in there. The owner, Megan, seems to be a great boss who really cares about her team and clients. I usually get sugared but the person I normally go to canceled all her appointments due to being sick. Normally this isn't a problem, but I was heading out on vacation the next day, so I needed to rip out some hairs. I frantically checked around Sacramento and saw Dirty Bird had availability for the morning. Booking was all online, and super fast. Brittany was incredibly responsive. I got there a little early and we started right away. I was in and out with an underarm and Brazilian in about 40 minutes. Brittany was incredibly professional and easy to talk to. When I didn't understand something she was asking, she took the time to explain it. Also, waxing is so much less painful than sugaring! Today was my first time ever getting a wax at this spot, booking was easy I just went on their site and requested an appointment for a Brazilian wax ($60) I just wish they had packages! Some places do like 4 Brazilians for a set price that you can redeem throughout the year and I really like that concept. My request was accepted almost immediately. I was greeted immediately by my wax artist Evelyn, she made me feel comfortable from start to finish. She asked me my preferences and if I would like any designs. She explained the different approaches to make me feel as comfortable as possible (ex. counting down, breath work, or to not tell me when she will be pulling the strip). This was very much appreciated. I also really appreciated her attention to detail and making sure that I left feeling better than before I walked in. The decor at Dirty Bird is very cute and welcoming and I love that they hired a local artist for the fun flower designs. I saw someone post about Dirty Bird and I decided to give them a try. I got my eyebrows done by Madeleine and she was so nice and very detail oriented. She asked what I wanted and I told her I wanted them cleaned up and I'm trying to keep them as thick as they can be. (The skinny eyebrow trend of the 2000s made it hard to have really thick eyebrows. RIP by eyebrows). She really took her time and walked me through everything. She used a really bright light to make sure that they my brows were looking good. She even offered to fill them in! I've been getting my eyebrows waxed for a long time but no one has offered to do that in quite some time. The shop is in on the first floor in an office building with individual suites. You walk through a hallway on the left side and their shop is on the right towards the back. It's right in midtown on K Street, it's a great location but there's only street parking. You definitely want to give yourself enough time to find a spot, especially on weekends when it gets really busy. Dirty Bird is definitely my new wax spot and you should check it out too. Okay, so I never leave Yelp reviews but Dirty Bird is just THAT GOOD. I've officially waxed with all of the girls and can confidently say that everyone is amazing at everything! I recently moved to the area and am very protective with my brows (prior to Dirty Bird, I went to the same esthetician from my hometown for 20+ years). Despite my nervousness, both Meghan and Madeleine (on separate occasions) listened to my waxing preferences and did a MAGNIFICENT job. I received lots of compliments on my brows in the days following. For Brazilians, everyone is amazing, but when I first started going, I booked with Evelyn and she made my first wax at Dirty Bird very comfortable and relaxed, and I was very happy with the results. Also, these studios are incredibly clean. I'm a bit particular about cleanliness in waxing studios, and Dirty Bird most definitely exceeded my standards. I typically book after work, which notoriously will keep me later than anticipated, but any time I call the front desk and inform them I am running a couple of minutes late, Dirty Bird is incredibly understanding and still very welcoming and kind despite any inconveniences. Overall, I trusted a Yelp review to try out Dirty Bird in the first place, and this studio is soooo good that it deserved a review! Meghan is an absolute delight -- I went in to get my brows done after a traumatizing over-waxing at a chain. I was nervous, but Meghan is so kind and disarming and immediately had a plan. She shaped them in such a perfect, flattering, modern way and filled them in (which helped me see how to replicate them at home). As an elder millennial who suffered through the overplucked thin brows of the 2000s, I thankfully never went super skinny; however, I'd never updated my shape and Meghan did it perfectly. Yes, on my own.... Ouch! Which would take me about a week to do in small stages and often I wouldn't even complete the task and give up... hello razor. Fast forward today, after much research I finally decided to take the plunge once more with Meghan at Dirty Bird.... And I'm never looking back. I was nicely greeted upon walking in and let's talk about the decor! The place is so cutely curated down to the bathroom and toilet paper. It's in those moments I started to feel at ease and confident nothing was going to be overlooked during the service. You can tell there is thought, care and attention to detail. The service was ....can I say?.... Fun! I received the Brazilian and full legs waxed, all in all took a little over an hour. I felt like I was hanging out with a friend and felt very comfortable. I have extremely thick hair and overall the pain level of the whole service I would say was about a 4. I can't believe I have been in pain doing this myself!! I had my first appointment at Dirty Bird and I was blown away by the whole experience!! When I walked in I was warmly greeted by the beautiful women of Dirty Bird and they instantly made me feel welcomed. The salon itself blew me away with its thoughtfully curated designs, decorations and even scent. I went to the bathroom before my service and audibly gasped when I opened the door because I was not expecting it to be as cute as it was! You can tell so much thought and love went into decorating every inch of that place and it really is a unique spot. I had a full Brazilian done by Brittney and she was amazing and did an incredible job! She was super easy to talk to, very detailed and asked along the way my preferences and what I would like during the service, and she left me feeling sooo smooth. Her technique was gentle (as gentle as it can be getting your hairs ripped out) and meticulous. I would 1000% come back to her! To top it off, I was gifted a free aftercare goodie bag with some skin care samples for maintenance between appointments, a cutie lollipop, sticker and of course a pamphlet with all of the aftercare info you need.
