If there are staffing challenges or delays, it would be helpful to let customers know upfront and give them the option to reschedule or adjust their plans accordingly. I had a grooming appointment for my dog at 1:00 PM on 8/4. Normally, the service takes about 1.5 hours, so when I hadn't received a call by 3:00 PM, I stopped by Dirty Dog to check in. I was told they were short a groomer and it would be another 45 minutes. I returned home and received a call at 3:56 PM saying my dog would be ready in 10 minutes. However, when I arrived, my dog was still not ready. I spoke with the manager, who explained they were short-staffed due to a personal emergency. While I understand things happen, there was no apology or effort to acknowledge the inconvenience. Initially, she said she couldn't assist because she had to handle payroll, which added to the frustration. Eventually, she offered a 10% credit, which I appreciated, but the overall experience left me disappointed. With better communication and a little more empathy, this could've been a much more positive experience. read more

Kelli was WONDERFUL and was very soft and gentle with my baby, the difference in my dog before and after the appointment was like night and day. My dog on the way there was terrified and crying, refusing to even look at me on the car ride there, and after she was excited to go home and full of kisses and tail wags. Customers, use caution with this small business owner. Do NOT prepay any services with her. I prepaid in Oct 2021 - Nov 2021(zoomy closed) - have repeated contacted Vanessa by messenger and phone. She will lie and say she is returning the prepay and nothing will ever come. Three time she has stated to me the accountant will mail the money back to me. I'm a dog groomer myself but decided to go to Dirty Dogs since it's right around the corner from where I live vs taking my dog to my work which is over 20 minutes away. I wanted to do the Pampered Pooch but was told I didn't need it for the deshed. I think next time, I'll be more prepared with my needs because I felt like I was asking way too many questions on how to get certain things (ear cleaner, dremel, etc). I totally forgot about the toothbrush/toothpaste. At my job, it's all right there but here, you have to ask. So I'm not quite sure what I paid for but it was about $40 something with the bath (and de-shed) and two treats (one being about $7 and the other being $3). Seemed more expensive than what I had originally priced out. But this is on me, I felt more like "get us out of here!" because my dog was freaking out during the bath. The ladies are helpful and they clean the bath up after you but I wish I knew what I was paying for with the bath because I wasn't even offered the doggie cologne that was advertised with the bath. (Should be $33 plus tax altogether...don't know why I paid over $40). I'd like to come back again since it's so close but yea, I definitely prefer my job's spa over this one. I will say that this spa is much cleaner and doesn't have a ton of dog hair everywhere and the boutique is nice and organized. read more

Bad experience. So, about a month ago I took my 4 year old Aussie to the groomers and asked for what's on the left and got what's on the right. It was so uneven and so patchy. I'm not sure why they cut him like that but I showed them the picture on the left and just asked for a shorter trim since it gets so hot here in NC. I will not be going to that groomer anymore due to them cutting his ear and denying it but this kind of cut is what we tend to get every time we take him somewhere. read more

First time visit today and all went well. My dog was nervous but they let you go into the back grooming area so being with him helped with his fears. We had his nails trimmed with a grinder, and also had the fur on his feet cleaned up. The groomer spent a nice amount of time and was careful and tender when moving around his legs and feet so she could work. 2 areas they could improve- 1) Put up glass between reception and the grooming area to eliminate noise. When I called in I could barely hear anything because there are blow dryers going, dogs barking etc. It's just as loud and crazy when in the place 2) Hire someone to ONLY work the front area and register and maybe welcome the dogs in when people arrive read more

We took our rescue boy Mulligan to Dirty Dogs for the first time and loved every bit of our experience. He is very shy and anxiety-ridden, so we were really nervous about him be stressed out being with a stranger while he's being groomed. From the time we walked into the front door, we were warmly greeted and they talked us through everything, and made sure Mulligan felt comfortable before taking him back, AND HE DID GREAT! Came here to use the self-service bathing stations for our pup. Could not have been more pleased, it is walk-in only for the self-service stations and the employee quickly cleaned a tub and got the necessary items ready for my pup. They have a variety of shampoos to use, plus conditioner. There is also a dryer to use on your pup. They also include a basket of grooming tools and towels should you need to use any. They even have a cologne station! LOL We were able to bathe our dog and somewhat dry him in about 15 minutes. The prices are also reasonable. Knocked off one star because when we were there, another owner had their dog running around the place without a leash. I had to ask that owner to put a leash on her dog several times - the employees didn't step in at all. All dogs are not the same and some are even fearful of places, to have dogs freely running around and directly at dogs on leash isn't necessarily safe in my opinion. read more

Protocols without any standards: masking, physical distancing, standard pandemic precautions not observed! Half employees without masks. Greeting customers without mask or physical distance observed. I gave feedback to the person in charge who shared their sanitation and drop off and pick up standards. Sounds good but at the pick up, I saw the same pattern: no masks, conversations around the desk without masks or physical distancing. No follow through. Part 2: Agreed to have a grooming appt. Pre-grooming consultation and I asked for full groom with an inch or so cut and my dog came back sheared. Imagine asking if I ask for a trim and end up with a pixie cut....I would have been ask prior to a big chop. Another policy not observed. I DID NOT consent for a shear/low cut. "matting" is not an excuse. I combed and brush my dog prior to the appointment and don't believe that "matting" was an issue. I would have expected a phone call if changes in the grooming. Pick up my dog and she looks horrible. Feels like a retaliation- owner denies but this surely sucks. She doesn't look like a Labradoodle. I will share my feedback as often and as loudly as I can. This is not a safe place for the at-risk public, this is not a place for grooming professional who care about your pet if the "consultation" is a bunch of crap. In fairness, as a return customer, prior grooms were okay, tips shared and received. I am horrified that this is where they are now. The manager did make a lot of excuses for her staff, even offered a sympathy background for the groomer "T" but if you don't do what your policy says, then it's not real. Yeah, I'm a return customer and won't be back. EDITED as a rebut to Vanessa's account: 1. I waited outside for a few minutes before I was let in by your staff. Please don't make it seem like I barged in unannounced or unexpected. This "threatened me on Yelp" verbiage is a microaggression that I as an AAF note and take offense to. Half the cost with no back pain, Dirty Dog Spa & Boutique puts a lot of dedication into customer satisfaction with a wide variety of services. All the employees are professionally trained and have the capabilities of grooming a show dog - ready to win the blue ribbon - and put a lot of love into what they do every day. I drove an hour out of my way and expected an average outcome. What I received was absolute perfection. The washing stations have 3 different shampoos you can choose from at any time, and one conditioner. After starting the facet, the shampoo becomes diluted with water, so don't expect a sudsy, foamy shampoo. At first I was disappointed because I was unfamiliar with this method of dog washing. It did not take long for me to change my mind and suddenly appreciate their set up. After ten or so minutes, Sunshine could not have been any cleaner. Everything is provided for you, but I do suggest a few tips for the occasional or even weekly dog washer. Bring your own dog nail clippers, as it may be difficult to use theirs if you have a larger dog. I am very familiar with mine and will likely bring them the next time I visit. Do spend extra for your own dog toothbrush and toothpaste. Their shop has A LOT of stuff, so if you are going to splurge on your pet do buy one. I also suggest bringing a spare change of clothes. You will need it if you have a medium to large dog. This place is lucky enough to provide aprons for their customers, but that won't prevent your doggie from shaking. I came to Dirty Dogs Spa for the first time with my Shihpoo Winston. He has had a traumatic experience with a previous groomer and ever since he has hated going in. I told the groomer about his fear and anxiety since he hasn't gotten over it. He's just a year old so he's still getting a feel for it anyways Not only was she super nice, I came back a little early and saw Winston being a good boy and how she worked with him. His haircut was perfect - not too short but not too long just as I requested. The best part of all, it was less than $50. Previously I had taken Winston elsewhere and was charged $115 for a 9 pound dog. After they increased their prices again is when I started searching for a new groomer and came across dirty dogs. We had a horrible experience here. When you send your furbaby to be groomed, you would hope that they would take care of them with the same care as a real child. They not only overbooked themselves drastically, but they were abusive to the animals. We waited inside since it was hours past when they said puppy would be ready. We heard our baby crying, and a worker walked by and yelled at him to shut up! No! We later found out that they nicked him with the razor. They tried to accommodate me with giving me a new date and same time as the original time. However that day just wouldn't work. I took my Bichon to Dirty Dog Spa In Wake Forest, NC for grooming. Rachel was the groomer. My parents picked her up. When I saw her, both of her eyes were swollen. Her left eye was swollen shut. The whites of her eyes were blood red. She had a cut under her right eye that was bleeding. She was in so much pain. On top of that, they gave my leash to another dog owner. The owner claims that the leash was mailed back to me over a week ago from Wake Forest. I have been calling about the leash and was told "well, we gave you the chance to come pick it up". I still have not gotten it back. Vanessa refuses to take any responsibility for her actions as well as the actions of her groomers. Vanessa also took it upon herself to call my vet to get the medical records. She claims to to have recorded the calls to my vet. She had absolutely no right to do that. Vanessa has also threatened legal action against me for slandering her and her business. Speaking the truth isn't slander. read more

Showed up to my dog's scheduled appointment to find the facility under construction. They should not be conducting business in the current condition of the location. There was construction debris all over the floor that would endanger dogs' paws. It was extremely unsafe. The construction worker proceeded to fire off his nail gun right beside my dog, which was completely traumatic to her. All of this only to find out that the groomer she is supposed to be scheduled with was out today. We requested a particular groomer and no one bothered to call us to let us know she wouldn't be there. Furthermore, they could not find another morning appointment with that groomer for weeks. This was completely unacceptable and we will not return. Take caution if you care about your pet. read more

Groomers are great if you can get an appointment with the same groomer again because of high turnover. I especially like the de-shedding process and shampoo. However, the complete disregard for customer service and how owner, Vanessa Davis, treats clients is the reason for this low rating. I have taken my two dogs to Dirty Dogs for about 2+ years. This last service appointment, on Saturday, was made almost 2 weeks in advance and confirmed by email three times. When I arrived for my grooming appointment, there was a hand-written note on the door that the credit card machine was "down" and that cash or checks were the only methods of payment. I confirmed this before releasing my pet to the groomer and asked to speak to Vanessa, who was not on site that day. I spoke to her over the phone and she advised me that her machine has been down for days and a new machine would be arriving on Monday. I was to give my credit card information to "Jordan" and she would charge it when her new machine came. I thought my service for one dog was going to be $75.00 and I didn't have that much cash on me as well as money for a tip. My service was actually $100.00 but that is another story. I choose to pay by credit card primarily for the buyer protection benefits. I asked for a receipt and was told because I hadn't actually paid, she couldn't provide one but said the receptionist could and walked away. No one ever said another word to me or came back up to the register so I left. After 4 days, my credit card was still not charged nor did I receive any communication from Dirty Dogs or a receipt to know how much my grooming service was. I contacted them and the distasteful, rude and completely unprofessional exchanges that followed are still unbelievable to me, as a person and a customer. I was accused of leaving without paying and was threatened with collections and given a deadline of 630pm and even received an email appointment confirmation for the payment deadline. I was accused of bullying and she also threatened me with legal action by her through her attorney. I was also told in an email that if I slandered her business, she would seek legal action against me. As a business owner myself, something is not right. Even if your credit card machine is malfunctioning, you can still process transactions through a web-based platform. I'm positive there is more to the credit card machine story but I can't prove it. I work hard and have many choices where to spend my money and I have never given a bad review of a business ever ... until now. Needless to say, I do not recommend Dirty Dogs. I have proof of every word written here. read more
