Wifey and I have eaten here LOTS of times. First things first: It's a college bar and grill. But, it's a great breakfast place. The food is almost always fantastic. Today, wifey got the peach cobbler pancakes and a half order of biscuits and gravy. I WAS going to order my usual Breakfast Pile. However, after hearing Wifey's order, I said, "Let's Just do it one more time! So, I ordered the same thing. We both got coffee and water. Service was very good. We were sitting at a table apart from most everyone else. Usually that means you'll be ignored, but our server (we didn't get a name) didn't forget us at all. That was a pleasant surprise. The peach pancakes were awesome. We had to remind them that should have whipped cream (a necessity, since it's a little dry otherwise). Our server was very happy to oblige and quickly remedied that. That made Wifey's day because the whipped cream was the "rug" that pulled the whole breakfast together. Mmmm! Overall, we will come back yet again, as it's a very good place. You would be wrong if you are not expecting anything fancy from a small town in Illinois. Tacos are very delicious here! I love the fish tacos. The chicken and street tacos look very enticing too. The portion is very generous. What really amazed me is many vegetarian options on the menu. As a healthy nerd, I enjoyed the plant based chicken nuggets and on demand salad without meat. Truly put my mind at ease to have a blast in a sports bar. Last but not least, the Dirty Martini at the Dirty's, you gotta to try. So you find yourself in Charleston, IL. You're most likely here because of Eastern Illinois University. When it comes to grabbing dinner close to campus, you have probably 5-7 choices, and Dirty's Bar & Grill is among the best. Don't let the name fool you, because Dirty's is more like a TGI Fridays than a seedy, hole-in-the-wall saloon. The menu features an amped-up selection of typical American bar food.. various fried appetizers, burgers, wraps, street tacos and other sandwiches. The exception being what they call a "Pile". There are about 4 different kinds, and they are basically fries topped with a protein and then covered in a sauce. If you've ever been to Springfield, IL then you've probably had a Horseshoe, and Dirty's Piles are kind of a spin of that dish. The drink menu has some speciality items on it as well which separate Dirty's nicely from the various college bars that surround it.. This makes Dirty's a great spot for parents visiting their college kids that are looking for a drink, and don't feel like having their feet stick to the floor while enjoying a $2 Natty Light.. (not saying that doesn't have it's place either..lol). We took my daughter and her boyfriend here for dinner (both EIU students), and had a very nice meal. Our server Macie was great. She was attentive, knew the menu, made solid recommendations and we wanted for nothing. The food was good, and tasted pretty much as expected. No one was blown away, but the flavors were all right there, and the food was hot and freshly prepared. I had the Chicken BLT wrap with chips. It was as good as a Chicken BLT wrap was gonna get. My wife had the Dirty's Signature Pile which featured waffle fries topped with fried chicken and Buffalo sauce. Again, pretty good. The kids had a Yum Yum burger and a Flip it & Reverse it Grilled Cheese. These two dishes might have been the way to go if/when we come back. The kids both raved about these sandwiches, and they had both had them before. Again, our selections weren't bad, but theirs looked better. I'm sure there were some healthier items on the menu, and also some items if you're vegan, or have dietary restrictions, but we stuck with what we knew - solid bar grub for fat people... lol. The kids then split a Martini Sundae, named for the glass it's served in.. and they liked it.. I didn't have any, but it did feature cookie dough wrapped in an egg roll wrapping - which looked intriguing. We've eaten at a few different spots since we've been coming down to EIU, and believe it or not, there are some pretty nice choices around campus that feature some pretty delicious food. Usually this is one of the best restaurants in town. Last week we enjoyed a Friday evening at ole Dirty's. Food came out fast everything was all good, the wings were super hot fire.... We ate here while visiting Eastern Illinois University for a sporting event. Welcoming, college pub vibe with friendly servers and lots of beer options. We had some cheese sticks, which were almost like egg rolls. Very tasty & also very filling. For dinner, I had a salad with grilled chicken, and my husband had a burger. Both were good! Used to like the food but the last two experiences have not been very good. Fries were stale and not even close to warm the last couple of times eating here. Cheeseburger was good. Whenever I am in Charleston for work, I do spend some of my lunches and once and a while, dinners, at Dirty's Bar and Grill. The staff here are welcoming, and I have always had bartenders make good suggestions for both beverages and food. This place isn't a fancy restaurant but a familiar place for decent bar food and nice sports bar with each season. My two go to entrees is the yum yum bowl where they have strips of steak over a bed of rice and vegetables and it is glazed over with some in house yum yum sauce, a must try. My second go to is the fish tacos, which are offered fried or grilled. There's a good variety of food here and a lot of options that I haven't tried yet, and they do change up their menu every now and again, so if you are a local you will be able to try something new. They have several desserts but what sticks out to me the most are these rolls of cookie dough which are wrapped in wonton wrappers, fried, and placed in a martini glass with a scoop of ice cream. Service last night was awful. First they had no ice, then two drinks were forgotten, one of which sat at the bar for over 15 mins. One of the other drinks was made terribly, basically undrinkable. Our order took an hour then they forgot one persons food. Our waitress was not a good one, not friendly, not attentive. She made numerous mistakes. We ordered fries which we never got. When the bill came the waitress wasn't able to give us a printed bill because her machine ran out of paper. She asked if we needed one printed and I said yes. She then unhappily hands me the little machine and I go over the bill. We were charged for the fries as well as an extra beer and a Miller Lite which they were actually out of. She was super annoyed that she had to have someone fix the bill. After she brought it back, she again asked if we needed to see the bill. The food was inconstant. One persons birria tacos had a ton of meat, the other had less than half that amount. The people tending bar need training. They don't even know the difference between tonic and seltzer. Yeah, it would be nice if you ran your restaurant displaying a bit more operational experience. My wife was placed on hold while attempting to place a pickup order. This was 20 minutes ago. They left her on hold, and after 5+ minutes, she hung up. Calling back 10 minutes later, it was still off the hook. This is not the first time this has happened. The restaurant is ran like a joke which is explicitly indicative of its owner. - update - The manager replied to this comment with an unacceptable reply. I don't care that you think you provide an equivalent experience to a bigger city (which you don't; I'm from a big city). I care that you do not leave patrons on hold for an excessive amount of time. The reply should have started with "sorry" and "we'll do better". read more

While parking tends to be ample, due to Dirty's local popularity it may seem difficult at times to find a parking spot. Dirty's providing a cozy atmosphere with attached patio area for seasonal open air dining (the experience outside could be improved with umbrellas). The menu as you may expect features american bar cuisine. A personal favorite is the very enjoyable fish tacos. But what tends to make Dirty's really stand out is the team. The kitchen and bar staff provide a tasty and consistent quality selection of menu items. Service is friendly, and management is responsive to customer requests. This 'higher end establishment" features shots called "used condoms", dresses the waitresses in sequined booty shorts or running shorts, the menus are FULL of typos (one menu says nothing is ever frozen or thawed, and believe me, that shrimp is frozen), and they are going to be selling bww style wings. Btw, reviews are being written by people who either work there or have children who work there (Sherry W). The general manager, Bev, does not believe in "the customer is always right" philosophy. In addition, she does not like black people as customers and has no problem telling staff members. This from someone who comes to her own restaurant drunk, smokes tons of weed, and pukes outside of Panther Paw then gives discounted food to the witnesses. "...Higher end establishment" Final word. This place is fine if all you want is a hamburger joint, that only uses iceberg lettuce, and sells martini's. Nice place to stop for lunch. I don't know what kind of drinks they serve because I was just having iced tea while I was on the road. I had a shrimp Cesar salad. It was grilled shrimp with a good portion size and a ton of lettuce. At the start the service was a bit slow. I did violate the please wait to be seated rule when I went and sat at the bar. Once the servers recognize that I had not been helped they picked up the pace and brought me everything quickly. The bar was fairly crowded for the middle of the day and it looks like a lot of regulars eat lunch there. Bathrooms and bar itself are clean and the Decour is kind of cute. Ive been to dirty's a number of times during my time in Charleston and enjoyed all of them. Their staff is lovely and the drinks are great! More variety for cocktails than other places for sure. The food I am mostly very impressed with. The portions are generous but there are a few things that could be tweaked. That said, Ive eaten and enjoyed everything I've ordered here and their menu revamp has been great! The fried avocado slices and french dip sandwich are amazing. Definitely worth stopping in. The only thing is it can get expensive a little quickly for what it is but it's worth the splurge every now and then. read more

Came here on a Sunday night for a quick bite to discover that they had $2 margaritas. Um, yes thank you! It was made more sour than sweet, which I liked--big fan. The BBQ chicken flatbread was alright, nothing too special. However, the service was prompt and accommodating--I asked for some hot sauce and they brought me their own homemade concoction, which was excellent. Food was middling to poor. Cold sandwiches, Little ice in the drinks. Way understaffed for such a day that we visited. Wait staff inexperienced and don't seem to care about customer service. Management did not even visit tables to see if everything was OK, much less compensate for lost order. Management should also have known that the business would be heavy on a move-in day at the local university. Serving sizes on the small side. 4 slices of corned beef on a Rueben??? Dirty's is alright in my opinion. I've eaten there multiple times. My complaint is that the menu doesn't offer a lot of variety, it's all chicken and burgers. I've never had the beverages, so I can't really comment on that. Their dessert menu is also very limited, but good, nonetheless. I don't enjoy the waitresses in their booty shorts and they usually aren't very engaging. I'm not so sure about the management either. One night after eating there with friends, majority of us got really sick (we think from the chicken, our friends who had burgers weren't bothered). I tried to call them to let them know, but no one answered the phone. I tried to email them via the address listed on their website, but never received a reply. We had heard that Dirty's was a great place for drinks and had some unique food items. When we stopped in, there were plenty of drink specials and definitely unique food on the menu. For an appetizer we shared the mozzarella sticks which were cheese sticks wrapped in a egg roll wrapper and lightly fried. Very good! I ended up having "The Stud" which was a large buffalo wing served in a loaded baked potato. It was great! My husband got "The Pile" which was a buffalo wing served over waffle fries. Stayed here while out of town for work, I had a draft beer and teriyaki wings. The wings were very good, and priced well. The beer was awesome of course. The atmosphere was relaxed at the time but I would say they probably get pretty busy on the weekends. Staff was nice, all younger staffing. I would go again. read more
