Super cool antique store with a huge variety of unique items! The workers were really friendly and helpful when we had questions about items. We bought a slingshot and shirt, originally priced at $19 and $25 but they let us get both for $35 total. We got a cool old mechanical rocket bank, a Hawaiian style silver and gold heritage bracelet and some vintage seashell earrings. Couldn't have been more satisfied with the selection and the service! Peter was very helpful and just an incredibly genuine and down to earth guy over all. Bought some amazing crystals from him for a very reasonable price. Some specimens I had never seen or heard of before, but we're too fragile for me to try and transport all the way back to California. Also scored a dope vintage Hawaiian shirt! As soon as I pulled up, I was outside taking pictures of some of the cool stuff they had on display outside and this lady walks out and says "best ice cream around". I knew that was a good sign, and at that moment I knew that I wouldn't be leaving there without eating some. After patiently trying to run my card multiple times through his chip reader without success, it finally worked. But after paying he insisted that we try some ice cream, so we got the Tahitian vanilla. When trying to pay for it, my card just would not work again, and I had no more cash on me, so he graciously said "No problem, pay me back when you can. If I don't see you again, then I am glad to have treated you to ice cream". Unfortunately I never had the time to make it back to pay up because my flight took off earlier than the rest of my family, but I won't forget and next time I come back to Kona, I'm treating my whole family to ice cream and paying him back! read more

Did not come here to shop. We came for the ICE CREAM On our way back from the Greenwell Coffee Farm and knew this place had tropical dreams ice cream. I had the Kona Coffee - so creamy Hubby: mac nut vanilla Son: cookies n cream daughter: chocolate - she finished it. Which is impressive. Usually get chocolate ice cream and its just too much and she stops before it makes her sick. This was really good. creamy and not crazy sweet. HUGE scoop for $3.50. read more

This place is a neat little antique store with all kinds of random things; glass, figurines, salt and pepper shakers, records, and a huge assortment of randomness. HOWEVER they no longer sell any ice cream! It's antiques only. So if you want ice cream, go north a mile to the gelato place. read more

I bought several items the first day I went to discovery antiques. Tina bought a couple things as well. Got a great deal on a vintage puka shell necklace and several vintage Hawaiian shirts for my friends. I would've gotten a lot more Hawaiian shirts of my athletic friends like Eric and chhem but this is Hawaii and these are Hawaiian style shirts! And most of them aren 2X and 3XL!! Lots of cool stuff outside: old gas pumps, bottle collections, doors. Inside was disappointing with the only thing catching my eye being a 1970s Peanuts suitcase. I think the $250. kimono robes right next to all the other overpriced vintage dresses threw me for a loop. Was hoping to find some unique trinket to take home, but think they were all sold out of those. Will give another try when returning to the big island. read more

Don't be fooled by the signs for that crap across the street at dave's... They're not even close. There are also so many different antiques and collectibles from all different places and times. Overall a really great shop in the great little town of kealakekua. Worth the stop if your in the area. Stop by after kayaking the bay and cool the whole family off the right way! read more

This place has the cutest little coffee shop in town. You can always get a good cup of coffee here. Proprietor Bev uses only Kona Bob's locally grown award-winning coffee. You may even run into Kona Bob when you're visiting. She'll sell you an ice cream cone too. Plus it's a delightful antique store with old Hawaiian music playing and lots to look at. There's a small shrine to Duke Kahanamoku, the Olympic swimmer from Hawaii. You'll feel like you stepped back in time. read more

Keep in mind, this is on the outskirts of Kona, surrounded by coffee plantations and easy to miss if you're in a hurry. I was taken by the authentic, rustic 'feel', and had seen this place (passing by) in past years, had the same reaction. This time I stopped. Yes, the ice cream was wonderful, and no there aren't tables, but it's more an antique/curiosity/nostalgia shop. Actually a bit like a museum, too, so I was quite ok looking around and (with permission) taking some photos of super-nostalgia products from bygone eras. Plus Hawai'ian style things, for locals and tourists across the years. It's really like places away from 'big city' Kona or Honolulu, this store. It's real, not slick, nor fancy. The ice cream is a tiny corner, and the worker scoops the ice cream, and does sales & register. Low key, slow. Real. Someone else noted the old gas pumps outside, and there are old Coca-Cola and beer products. True, it's not like fine city antiquing, but not so different than rustic New England, but tropical. The bottle collection is cool too. In general it is a photographer and a nostalgia/antique lover's dream. Ice cream not included. I bought a real Hawai'ian dress shirt (as in made in Hawaii, USA, years ago, tapered fit) which I saw hanging above me and loved. $24. Discovery Antiques was an amazing find on our trip to the Big Island. We wanted to find some unique souvenirs from our trip so we stopped by to check it out. The shop is eclectic in the best way possible. They have jewelry, bottles, vintage clothing, collectable toys and figurines, Hawaiiana (perfect for a unique souvenir) and so much more. The staff was very knowledgeable and willing to work with us on the price and shipping. They have something for everyone even if antiques aren't your thing its worth the stop. Plus if you stop you can get some of their delicious Ice Cream. The woman working described it as the best ice cream you will have and boy she wasn't kidding. Tropical Dreams the brand of Ice Cream they sell is fresh, rich and creamy in all sorts of interesting flavors such as the Lava Java, Toasted Coconut Cream, and the Chocolate Coconut Macnut just to name a few that we tried. All in all Discovery Antiques was totally worth the trip. read more

The woman that owns this store is the rudest proprietor I have ever met! Listen to this: We bought a dish of ice cream across the street and then wanted to check out her antiques store, looking for a gift for my mom. She asked us to leave because of the ice cream. When we mentioned, a bit confused that we didn't think she'd mind us shopping with the ice cream because we noticed that her sign says she sells ice cream herself, she became very belligerent, and said if we bought the ice cream from her she wouldn't mind, but in her angry words "what I DO have a problem with is you buying it ACROSS THE STREET and then bringing it in here!" Apparently she considers it a personal affront that we had patronized another business that sells a similar product, even though it had also drawn us to shop in her store. I can respect a sign saying no food allowed but her obvious simmering resentment at her potential customers patronizing another business was a total turnoff. read more
