This place may be fun for younger kids and their parents, but teenagers won't find much to do here on a day with no events. My friend and I were excited to go kayaking, but were extremely disappointed to find that the "lake" area was just a small square of water where boats went round and round. We walked around the park and saw some of the fountains and art installations, but were done pretty quickly. While Discovery Green sure is "green", in the literal cense, it is not very green in the environmental or economical aspects since anyone who comes here has to spend their hard earned money and gas to "discover" a parking spot. Horrible park, terrible reception towards Pokemon players despite the large increase in revenue due to foot traffic (parking, on-site businesses, etc). Will not visit again. Edit: As a response to Melissa of Discovery Green, I'm fairly certain (would bet money on it) that the extra influx of money from parking, as well as the cafe/businesses on site would be more than enough to hire the extra personnel and take care of any other expenses associated with the increased foot traffic. Secondly, none of your "free events" can come close to the popularity/foot traffic that you would otherwise passively have thanks to Pokemon Go. What it sounds like to me is you felt you had little control over the situation and it didn't fit your management's personal agenda, so you decided to make it very apparent that the Pokemon Go community was not welcome (from the signs that discouraged "group"/"organized" play of the social game, to this recent decision to remove all pokestops). Unfortunately, this has permanently left a bad taste in my mouth as well as many others and will never visit this park again, regardless of the event. read more

Instead of embracing all those that want to get out and walk the park they have decided to exclude us. The parking is a problem and the Discover Green Conservatory and staff don't want you to visit. this is a beautiful park right in downtown! there is a pond with water lillies and a big green lawn, surrounded by buildings and offices. what a neat and lovely paradigm. i went to the free zumba class on wednesday evenings at 6:30. i personally prefer a more fast-paced zumba, but this class would be great for beginners, plus it's free, so really you can't complain for something you didn't pay for! online, there is a schedule of other classes they offer for free as well. just be sure to bring your own ice water! read more

Discovery Green is one of the coolest spots in the city as there is always lots of activity that is hosted on these grounds. Movie screenings, concerts, festivals, ice skating on the lake, a splash pad, playground, Dog Park, and lake side café all utilize the grounds depending what time of year it is. My boyfriend and I went ice skating as they freeze a 1/3 of the lake for skating. Skate rent is $12 for 90 minutes. There is a 10x10 sq. foot area for tiny children under the age of 4 to skate. Then the other area is sectioned off by a wall around the entire perimeter. They have an ice skate guard, which is similar to a life guard and you can even pay for a brief private lesson. It felt like the closest experience that you could get to ice skating in Rockefeller Center except there was live music, a BBQ grill fired up, a dog playing in a splash pad and oh yeah did I forget to mention it was 69 degrees. Only in Texas can you have this type of experience. Got to love it. BTW, there are lockers that you can rent to secure your items but they only take quarters. For the most part, people leave all of their items lying around and ours were left untouched. This is definitely a fun date or family activity at Discovery on the Green! Ice skating starts the first week in December and ends the first weekend in February from 11:00am-11:00pm. There is a near by parking lot that charges between $5-10 depending on the day of the week you go. You'll love it! read more

Been here once before pogo. It was ok but not a lot to do. Paying for parking was a hassle. Went a few more times for pogo and it was great. Didn't mind the prices. Won't be coming back they as they removed all the stops to keep the unwanted out. Enjoy the clean park. read more

DO NOT GO THERE TO SKATE! In the winter the ice is slosh and during the rest of the year they make you pay $12 to skate (if you could call that skating) on a slab of metal mesh. It is a horrible skating experience, you can't even glide. Most people and kids were falling or just bored. My friends and I couldn't deal with it more than 15 minutes and left pissed. read more

This is one of my favorite places to come and get away from the city. I know, I know - it's still in the city but there are so many things you can do while you're here that helps relax you from the every day life as a Houstonian. There are places to set up your lawn chair or blanket and relax, they have tasty foods at the restaurants and suavely Grizziffi's Coffee is set up as well. Seasonally they have ice skating in the winter months or canoeing in the summer months. They has tons of activities for both children and adults, plus it's dog friendly. Bring your bike or walk, it's also a nice scenic place to jog. They have different artists that come out and display their pieces or have events were you can actually meet the artists. I highly recommend this to any and every person that comes to visit Houston or any Houstonian that hasn't already had the pleasure of enjoying some of Houston's finest recreational parks! read more

don't go during ice skating time for any outdoor movie. I don't understand why they promote the out door movie since the screen is center for those in the rink. like really? ice skaters should prob be looking ahead to avoid accident and shouldnt be watching the movie. also, when a movie is cancelled or date change, they do not communicate the information on twitter or FB. We've taken two family trips to Discovery Green and really enjoyed ourselves both times. There are two main water features that kids can play in, a large playground, and tons of green space to lay down a blanket and enjoy being outside. The grounds are well kept and diverse enough to keep things interesting. It really didn't look like much when I drove past when it was first built, but I'm glad I decided to stop and check it out. read more

A take a walk here almost everyday since I work close by. Very nice park that's constantly maintained. My gripes are the constant construction around the park and the influx of homeless people that camp out and bother you. This takes away from the beauty and peacefulness in my opinion. read more

This place will remind you of what nature is all about. Located in the center of Houston, skyscrapers and other buildings can be spotted afar, but that does not detract from the cool elegant radiance this park has. The first thing I saw was a splash park with a few kids. It was a great way to cool off on a hot summer's day. This place is a nice place to take a walk. At this place I take my lunch and enjoy ridings of carnival-style, and Ferris wheel which were very interesting and adventurous. After taking lunch means at the time of late noon I drive to south of downtown where I got Hermann park which was very attractive place encompasses with zoo, museum of natural science, and golf courses. The rest of day I finished at this park. Zoo and museums of natural science sights were very interesting and after enjoying all these I came back to my hotel where first of all I take some refreshment then went for dinner. After taking dinner I go to my bed for sleeping with the preparation of the other day of trip. On third day, I decided over to med center and uptown which was the home of many attractions. First of all I went to med center where I got art museum, children museum, Japanese garden, and outdoor miller theater which were very nice attractions and all these attractions were situated near to the downtown of this city but due to lack of time I can not see these sights. Japans garden was the famous attraction which was showing the friendship of United State and Japan. At this I also saw fine art museum which was enclosing with latest collection of arts and exhibits. By seeing this region I went to uptown where I got William tower which was very large and one of the guy told me this building is 3rd largest skyscraper in Houston. By walking at a short distance I meet up with The Galleria which was the shopping mall and I purchase some thing from this mall for my family members except me. In this mall, I take enjoy ice skating rink which was indoor. After this I went to st. Arnold brewery which was very fun place and then went to memorial park where I found some incredible trails but I take only bicycling and rollerblading. This review is strictly related to Ice Skating at Discover Green. We went last night for "Disco Friday" night. While the view was spectacular and this had the potential to be a really nice experience, it didn't stack up. The rink is small (about 1/4 the size of the Galleria ice rink) and was quite crowded and the ice was in terrible condition, with many holes and ruts. Even after they ran the smoothing/resurfacing machine over it, it was still difficult to skate on. To top it all off, the music wasn't the Disco tunes from the '80s we were hoping to hear, ti was Techno. So for a couple of oldies who ventured out to skate to Disco tunes, we found it quite disappointing. On a more positive note, the facility was clean and and well managed, and even though it was crowded, the other skaters were all very nice and cordial. read more
