two wine glasses and a bottle of wine
Sarah S.

This wine shop is packed to the brim with an assortment of wines from around the world. We enjoyed looking around here for everything from red and white wine to beer to non alcoholic beverages. They have a good range of options here. We decided to have a bottle on their beautiful patio-we love that they do not have a corkage fee! We enjoyed ourselves in the sun with a white wine that we chose. I would highly recommend them to anyone-they have a wide range of taste profiles. We took our pictures outside because the weather was irresistible. We enjoyed their fountains and sculpture!

Escaping the drizzle misting down outside, we found ourselves in this cozy tasting room, where my wife proceeded to spend way too much money on wine stored in bottles that look like cats, because she's a crazy cat lady! Now, her felicitous feline selection is not a product of Hellams, but rather some sort of European import, so I can't commend on the quality of Hellams own personal vintages, but I can say that, based on aesthetic and customer service alone, this is the sort of tasting room where I personally would enjoy whiling the hours away on a lazy, drizzly or rainy weekend afternoon. It's a shame we hadn't enough time to do so. Still, Hellams Vineyard looks to be an incredible place to take some time sampling various whites, reds and rosés. The place is positively, but elegantly, bursting with towers, pyramids, dioramas and other artistic displays of myriad varieties of wine across its entire spectrum of colors and flavors, so there is bound to be something here for everyone. And fortunately, there are expert and knowledgeable guides here to help you find what you are looking for. Even if what you are looking for is cat wine.

Coming from a wine area in California, we came across this establishment during the Covid events during the early winter. The staff was incredible with their knowledge and friendliness. We have returned regularly over the last year. We were able to enjoy one of the dinner cruise with a local winery and cannot wait to do more.

We got here about 15 minutes before closing and had no idea what we wanted to order or if we be able to order. The woman was so nice and let us order a bottle of wine after giving us a couple of taste just so we knew what we liked. We got to sit outside and enjoy the view after they closed and then put the glasses to the side to keep them safe for whoever would pick them up in the morning. Loved it!

If you are in La Conner Hellam's is a must stop if you enjoy tasting wines. They offer wines from across Washington state plus beyond. The tasting fee is a dollar per taste, which I would more than likely have left as a tip. There are multiple over stuffed chairs and couches to linger in longer if you are so inclinded.

The staff was really nice and helpful. There is no corkage fee. We drank our wine in the middle of the store but it was really cute to be surrounded by all the wines.

What a wonderful store. Wine tastings are only $1.00 each. Jeffrey, the owner is very knowledgeable about wines of the world. Wine prices are very reasonable. He also has an arrangement with some local restaurants that won't charge a corkage fee if you show them a receipt from a wine purchase in his store.

It's a nice little place inside a mall like building. The back of the room has doors that open to a deck overlooking the water. You can get a cheese plate, and in the summer when it's warm, it must be nice to take it with a bottle of wine out onto the deck and enjoy. We went for a tasting and ended up buying two bottles of wine and some cheese. If you're in La Conner I recommend stopping by.

Wine bottle breaking while pulling out

First negative review ever done. This was the worst customer service and negative response by a merchant we have ever experienced! We bought a bottle of Brunello 2012 wine. That night we TRIED to open the bottle with 3 different corkscrews and the cork was so embedded and tight it broke the first two openers. When we got to the third corkscrew and was trying to lift it up, there was so much pressure on the glass it broke the glass around the top sides of the bottle. (See photos) Clearly defective. We poured it out over worries of broken glass in wine. When we tried to return the defective bottle and cork to Jeff the merchant/owner next day and explain what happened, he clearly wanted no part of a conversation of standing behind the merchandise he sells and wouldn't consider a credit or replacement of any kind. It was only a $54.00 purchase with tax. He was actually very rude to my husband and I and simply said you broke the bottle and wouldn't consider the why. When we pressed him again that he should stand behind his merchandise, he told us to get out and don't come back. We had no plans to ever come back and would suggest you don't either. Not sure if he was having a bad day or what but he came across as very self centred, negative and rude. Avoid this business.

Really fun little spot to sit and sample wines on the water. It's only $5 to sample 8 of their wines and you can sit out on the deck and watch the boats go by. We ordered the cracker and cheese plate which was also very good and a perfect addition to the experience. If you feel like spending a day on the water and drinking wine, this is the place to go.

We make a point of stopping in here whenever we are camping in La Conner. Great stop. Great wine. Great craft beer selection as well.

They have a great, inexpensive and unpretentious wine list with plenty by the glass. We split a glass of rose and it was lovely! The food was just okay. They bragged about having large portions but our $18 cheese plate was a small snack for sure. It also said it came with fruit and chocolate and they only brought out the cheese, crackers, and nuts. Not sure if they were out, we didn't have enough time to talk to our server to figure this out. The servers were all in a huge hurry and missed a lot. I know they were busy and don't completely blame them, but it was definitely amiss. They asked if we wanted more wine and we said no, so they cleared our food quickly even though we were still eating. They also put a reserved sign on our table while we were still there (we only stayed maybe 25-30 min) and told us that someone else wanted our table. It was kind of rude and we felt super rushed by the servers. We really felt like we were being hurried out and didn't get the full experience. They also took our water glasses and dumped them on the ground next to us while we were still sitting and before we were done. They could not have been more blatant about wanting us to go even though we weren't there long. I would probably revisit on a slower day to see if things improved, but the service wasn't great.

Came here with my husband on a rare date night. I was REALLY excited about this place. The menu had…read morea lot of our favorite dishes. For starters, we ordered the artisan bread, a dozen oysters, and the beet salad. As someone who bakes and sells my own artisan sourdough, I was underwhelmed by the bread. I liked the touch of truffle they add to it but it needed salt. And it also needed to be on the table well before the 35 minutes we waited for it. The oysters were also not very memorable. I can't remember what one of the varieties was, but they were brinier than I care for but that's just a personal preference. The kumamotos were the TINIEST oysters I've ever seen. I've eaten my share of kumamotos and I know Japanese oysters are generally smaller and sweeter than other varieties (which is why they're my favorite) , but I'm not exaggerating when I say they were the size of quarter. I also didn't like the frozen mignonette they served as an accoutrement. It didn't seem frozen--it spread like jam. It didn't really taste like vinegar or shallot like mignonette should. It was just not very good. The beet salad was EXCELLENT. The chèvre was generous, the bitter micro greens tasted great with the beets and chèvre. It was well seasoned. We devoured it. For entrees, I had the dayboat scallops and my husband had the duck leg. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the leek risotto was very tasty. I'm not really sure what I was supposed to do with the pickled lemon on my plate. I tried to eat a small piece with the other elements and it was so overpowering that I left the rest on my plate. Now let's talk about the protein--my $52 scallop dish came with THREE scallops. Not even whole scallops as I'm pretty sure they were cut in half to cook more evenly. Three small 1/2 scallops and two cubes of pork belly. For Fifty-two dollars. My husband enjoyed the duck, but again, the portions were disappointing. $230 later, we ended up going through a drive through because we were still hungry. Unlikely we'd return after such an expensive meal left us so unsatisfied.

Finding a table for three on Valentine's Day without a reservation usually ends in heartbreak, but…read morewe lucked out here! Despite it being a busy holiday evening, we were seated immediately. The vibe was lively but comfortable, with most tables and the bar filled. Since we visited in February, we leaned heavily into their specials menu. We skipped the small plates and went straight for the mains: the Greek Salad with Steak, the Steak and Gorgonzola Flatbread, and the Vine Burger. Every dish was a hit, though my wife found the red wine vinaigrette on the salad to be just "okay" rather than great. For drinks, we stuck to the mocktails. We tried all three on the menu, and the Blueberry Mule (ginger beer based) was the undisputed winner. We'll have to come back for the cocktails another time since they looked promising! We capped the night with the Apple Blossom pastry with vanilla ice cream--it is a total "must-try." Overall, the service was courteous, the ambiance was spot-on, and parking was a breeze. We'll definitely be back!

The soup of the day was fantastic. A sausage, potato and kale soup. Warm, comforting and delicious! The salad was somewhat disappointing. I ordered the quinoa kale salad, with a citrus vinaigrette. There was a little quinoa and kale on top of a large amount of romaine. Not what I expected. It was also served stuffed into a small, tall sided bowl with the dressing on the side. How exactly are you supposed to dress it and eat it? My friend had the burger and fries. The burger was half the size of the bun. She literally removed 50% of the bun. It was also extremely well done. The fries were cold. They don't have decaf coffee, but I was able to order mint tea. It was brought in a cup that smelled like old coffee. The table had been cleared and I had no napkin and he didn't bring one with the tea. There was a slice of lemon I didn't want and I had no place to put it. There is potential here, I hope they pay more attention to providing a quality experience and food.
