Fabulous private charter for our party of 7 (3 adults and 4 of our just barely adults (18-20 years) children). Gorgeous, well-appointed boat, and Captain Greg was perfect, answered every question and kept us entertained for the full 3 hours, especially our geology minor... We lucked out and had the finest weather - and I wish we had gone out for longer, full day vs. half day was really the play here! The Bee was simply a beautiful boat, clean as a whistle, with beautiful teal decks and trim - super comfy cushioned seats on the top deck were the best spot! Saw tons of wildlife as we toured around the coves and Island - recommend this experience highly if you are visiting San Juan Island! read more

Greg really knows the area well, and his boat is really nice. Although the cruise was never promoted as a whale-watching trip, we ended up seeing four of them stalking some seals. We also saw lots of interesting fishing activity, some eagles, and lots of seals. This is a great way to see more of the islands you can't get to on any of the commercial boats and to see some beautiful scenery. read more

My husband and I took a full day cruise on the "Bee" this last Friday, with Captain Greg, and had an outstanding day. It turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. We had been on whale watching cruises this summer, with mixed luck, and will likely go again sometime. But, this cruise was an entirely different and very relaxing and delightful experience. Of course, there was nothing that said we would NOT see whales, but the purpose of the cruise was to tour the whole island coastline and nearby area to gain a sense of the beauty of the terrain, the variety of the terrain, to hear about the island history (including its geology, for which Captain Greg was well prepared), and also the other island wildlife. Our lunch at Roche Harbor was a lovely rest stop, if one were needed, but we found that we were so engrossed in the beauty, the variety, and wonderfully smooth ride up on the captain's platform, that we would have just as easily (and could have, had we wished) packed a picnic and drifted. We saw harbor seals, huge sea lions, red jellyfish, anemones, island porpoises in sizable pods, and several casual Salmon fishers over by Lime Kill Lighthouse. We went up to Spieden Island, learned about its history and saw sizeable herds of exotic wildlife, and even discovered that some of the huge sea lions were already migrating northward to that area. The sky was full of high "Mare's Tails" and "buttermilk" clouds, and the sun was just right. I only should have thought of a bottle (or two) of wine and some cheese for us all to share as we finished the day. There were only the 2 of us as guests on this seaworthy Grand Banks Yacht, but it easily could have accommodated several more. If weather did turn a little sour, the quarters are very appropriate to seek "heated, sheltered dry space" and relax. Nonetheless, even up on "top" this sturdy vessel, the course was steady and there was no hint of unsteadiness, and certainly no tummy discomfort or headache. We were very impressed with Captain Greg's knowledge, his depth of experience on the waters, and his willingness to try to accommodate any particular requests. Whether it's for a half day to sail or search for Whales, another round island cruise, or a sunset wine and cheese sail, we certainly will return to the Bee when we are in the San Juans again....worth every well valued penny and more. I recommend this ship, captain and any of his cruises to anyone of any age who can board a ship and wants to enjoy getting out and about, rather than stay ashore. Captain Greg was awesome! He took my husband and I out for a sunset cruise for our anniversary and we had a great time! Capt. Greg was very friendly and shared his knowledge of the island and surrounding areas with us. He got drove us by a rock full of seals and and got us close enough to get a great shot of a Bald Eagle perched in a tree. The actual sunset was pretty amazing too. Three of us went on a wonderful cruise with Greg and his first officer! They took us on a lovely sunset tour around San Juan Island! Features of the island's geology, marine life and wildlife were pointed out! The ride was smooth and safe! His boat was very clean and there was good upstairs seating as well as seating down below for cold weather. We had a great time! He was on time and efficient! What a great way to watch the sunset in the island. Very comfortable boat, good viewing from anywhere on the boat.. Laid back, fun and wonderful crew. What a wonderful way to experience boating in the San Juans. We set out with one other couple for an afternoon cruise on the Bee, a 32 foot Grand Banks trawler. Just the four of us and the captain. It was quiet and comfortable with several places to go sit and view the fantastic scencery (on the bow, inside the salon, or up on the fly bridge) So much nicer than being on a crowded boat with dozens of other people around. Thanks to Greg's knowledge of the area, our tour that day took us to a prime whale watching spot and we got to hang out very near a couple of pods of Orca! Greg was a very interesting, easy, and friendly captain. The whole afternoon was a vacation highlight for us. Thank you, Greg! read more

My husband, two teenagers and I took the sunset cruise with Captain Greg last week. Our hope was to see whales, and Greg did all he could to accommodate. We quickly found a pod of 'transient' whales, and followed and watched them for over an hour. Greg knew of a nearby rock where seals are known to be, so realizing the whales were hungry we headed to the rock in advance of the other whale boats. Sure enough, the pod showed up, circled the rock, and displayed why they are at the top of the food chain, and did their happy dance when they were done. What an amazing thing to watch. I feel Greg's knowledge of whale behavior and the area provided us an exceptional whale watching opportunity, We highly recommend Captain Greg and the Bee. read more

I can't say enough great things about going out on "The Bee" with Captain Greg. My wife and I booked "The Bee" for an all day cruise ( 8 hours ,) in late May. We wanted to steam around San Juan Island with our best friends and renew our vows. What a fantastic Trip! The weather was great, "The Bee" is an amazing boat with every comfort and Captain Greg was beyond amazing. Not only is he a fantastic Captain, but his knowledge of the islands and local lore seems to have no limit. If you hate getting lost on a large tour boat, if you really just want to relax, laugh, and enjoy everything the San Juan's have to offer, this is the best boat in the islands.
