My son has been attending this place for almost a year now, and it has been a truly wonderful experience. I feel incredibly blessed that he is in such a nurturing and supportive environment. While reading through some of the reviews, I noticed a few negative ones and took the time to understand their perspective. To be honest, I feel it's a bit unfair for a place to receive a low rating because children spend a lot of time playing outside, make crafts using scissors, or because a child cried when adjusting to school. These, in my opinion, are natural parts of childhood and development. Personally, I would only leave a negative review if I had a genuinely bad experience, such as staff not doing their job, children being unsafe, not being cared for properly, or not being treated with love and respect. But that has not been my experience here at all. As parents, we all have different expectations and values when it comes to raising our children, and we naturally want environments that align with them. For me, this place has done a beautiful job with my son. He is in an environment full of play, learning, love, and strong values. I don't want my child to be in a competitive or stressful setting at such a young age. In fact, I've been pleasantly surprised by skills he developed here that I hadn't explored much at home, like using scissors confidently. Instead of seeing it as something negative, I realized I had been underestimating him. He is capable of so much more. The teachers are incredibly kind and supportive. I've even asked them for advice on things like potty training and how to handle tantrums at home, and they've always been helpful and thoughtful. Discoveryland Milpitas is a Christian Daycare, but you don't have to be a Christian to attend here. It's not a fancy or academic rigorous daycare like Stratford and Montessori, but that's ok because these kids are just toddlers to about 5 yrs old. Once they are in grade school, they can enroll in the Foothill Adventist Elementary next door on the same campus. I pulled my 3 year old fr his home based daycare and transitioned him here so I can claim childcare on my taxes, give him more structure, socialization with his peers and I can see the difference. Instead of him glued stuck on the babysitter's TV or iPad, he has outdoor play, arts and crafts, gradual learning words and numbers. Most importantly, they learn manners and are geared towards what's appropriate and not. In the summertime, they are laxed and allow the children to enjoy the outdoor more. They also have fun activities planned with game day, waterworks's, rent jump houses, etc. Childcare hrs 7:30-6pm, max hrs/day a child can be there is 9.5 hrs. They provide breakfast, snacks and lunch which is all vegetarian. They prep their nutritious food onsite. Only downfall is they use disposables plates, etc which is not environmentally friendly. Office staff is friendly and always greeting with nice salutations. My son got scared of his teacher for a while, but that was because he was misbehaving. Other than that, it's a pretty nurturing environment. Compared to other childcare center, it's more affordable and food is provided. They also have some financial aid for those who qualify. read more

Ok so, I don't have kids but, I was at Discoveryland last week doing some research for a paper that I had to write and, it was great! I don't really know where to start... but I HAVE to Yelp it!! I was there from 3:45 to 5pm when the kids were outside playing before the parents were picking them up. They were all so happy! Their play area inclues a huge yard (with grass) to play in that's protected by high shrubs and trees for privacy, and several different areas for activities. They have toys, jungle gyms, a sandboxes and just lot's of room to run! The day I was there happened to be the day that the school had brought in a bunch of pumpkins for a 'pumpkin patch' for the kids. They kids got to pick pumpkins and had put their names on them for future crafts. There was also a huge castle jumper (astro jumper) for them to jump in and hay bales through-out the yard. A kids paradise and perfect way to blow off energy before going home. The teacher's all seemed really nice and the classroom was what you'd want from any preschool set-up. The front was instructional, complete with computers and the back was more playstructional. It was cluttered but clean with bright colors and educational toys. They had a changing station for the young kids... I guess they take from 2-6 in their pre-school program. From what I understand, they have other schooling there for older kids but I don't know much about it. When I have kids, I want them to have a day care much like this! Notes: It's in a church so don't miss it when you drive by. 7th Day Advent or something... My kids love this school. My son adores Ms Janet, and my daughter can't stop talking about Ms Leila and Ms Janel. I see the teachers really know my kids' personalities, highlight the positives, point out the challenging bits with tips on how to overcome them. I was updated in cases where there were boo-boos (nothing crazy, just the usual falls that can happen when kids are being kids). They share things about my kids that even I did not know. Since starting here, my kids have grown so much in terms of social skills and maturity (learning to share, taking turns, washing hands, saying sorry, etc). Majority of the kids here are very warm and out-going, which tells me they are being nurtured well both in school and at home. I'm thankful we chose this school. read more

It seemed like a good place for my child, but it turned out to be a disappointment. Every time I would drop off or pick up my son, he would be in tears. I allowed an adjustment period, but there was no improvement after over 2 1/2 months. I would ask the teachers why he was crying and they would have no idea. Saying that he was just a crier. One day, I picked him up and his lip was split and he had a gash and bruise on his cheek! I asked the teacher what happened and she said she didn't know, she didn't notice it. It was very noticeable. I understand there are a lot of children...but how do you not notice something like this??? Then she proceeded to blame my child for not communicating what happened to him and blamed his shy behavior for her not noticing. This is preschool. It is a whole new environment for these kids. I sent my son there expecting that there are responsible adults that are SUPERVISING my child, ensuring his safety, and facilitating an environment which he can thrive in. Not one where he comes home banged up, in tears, and not wanting to go back. I was really afraid that he would hate school after his experiences there, so we pulled him out. He was so relieved when we told him he didn't have to go back there. His smile lit up and it was like a weight was off of him. I don't think any preschool should make a child feel like that. We placed him in a different preschool 2 weeks later and he had no issues. He is now in elementary and absolutely loves school. read more

Very good school. My daughter went there for 2.5 years. She loved all the teachers and activities. They have two field trips a year. I thought it needed more organization through the field trip (lack of information) but I can see they are improving on that. They have nice performances in Thanksgiving, Christmas time. Since it's next to elementary school, they can use the gym for the event and I liked that. They have lots of events like "Summer Olympic Day" "Western Day" " Pajama day" and more. but no Halloween costume day. I wonder why... They are more into arts/crafts than math and ABCs. For preschool age, I was fine with that. They have very big yard and nice play structures. All the rooms are very clean. Nice staffs and teachers. I was very happy to choose this school. read more

I have 2 kids twins when to Discoverlyland, and both love it so much. This school have the combination of outdoor and indoor with nice grass and playground. They serve breakfast and hot lunch for kid in preschool which is included in the fees. Food is serve vegetarian type and don't think is just salad but protein type of meal. They don't outsource their food which is great to ensure the quality. Both my kid have a good impression on both their teacher Penny and Tara. I can not say enough positive things about this loving Pre-School. My 5 year old is about to wrap up pre-school here and has been enrolled for 10 months. The staff here from the front office to the teachers love children. It shows in everything they do. The food is fresh and healthy and prepared daily. The teachers are all seasoned veteran teachers and have been here for years. It is clean and the kids are taught more than academics, but to be helpful, responsible and kind. The teachers and staff really get to know each child, and their dedication shows. I loved their curriculum and felt it was age appropriate not too much pressure to perform as a 4/5 year old but definitely well planned and thought out curriculum. I visited Discoveryland after calling the office several times to enquire about their program. They never told me it was a Christian preschool. I figured it out since it was part of a church and there were 'Jesus Loves You' signs everywhere. They have a right to be religiously affiliated, but they should be upfront in their name or when they speak to potential parents. Also, the class I observed had 8 or 9 kids with a teacher, and they were doing a craft activity. Instead of the teacher going around the table and helping the kids, she would ask the kids to help eachother with glue and scissors. I think for kindergarten or first grade that would have been fine, but for the young age where the kids are themselves having trouble with fine motor skills, I don't think you can expect the children to help themselves. This may be a one-time thing which doesn't happen that often, but that was something that I observed while I was there. Other than that, the facilities looked really nice. read more

I love Discoveryland!! My kids have been attending this school for a total of about three years. My older one was in the preschool for two years before attending the kindergarten, and my little one has now been there about two years. I plan to keep him there through kindergarten as well. The school is open from 7 am to 6 pm, year-round, and offers all the snacks and hot lunch, which is a relief for a busy full time working mom like myself! They also have fewer days off than most preschools, which eliminates the need to find excessive alternate babysitting. I love how the teachers are always so excited to see both my kids, and how everyone knows their little quirks. Even though my little one can be a handful, I've received gentle guidance and tips on how to handle him. And when I had a small grievance, Ms Penny handled it for me beautifully. The office staff and accountant are also very welcoming and kind. I'll be grateful always to Ms Angela, Ms Tara (or as my little one calls her, "Ms. Tawa!"), Ms Jaslynn, Ms Letty, Ms Leila, Ms Arlene, Ms Delia and literally ALL the teachers who have made both my sons' experiences a treasure. I'm a single mom, and I'll NEVER forget how my son's teachers made us two Christmas gifts, one for each household. I almost cried, it was the utmost thoughtful gesture. Thank God for this school! The staff are wonderful and genuinely care about the children. They have awesome programs for each classroom and it seems like all the children are so happy to be here. There is also an elementary school on the same premises so you can drop all the kids off at the same locale. How convenient is that? Stop by, you'll be glad you did. I know I am. I am writing this review based on my experience here for my 5 years old son. This is a Christian school. It's part of the Seventh-Day Adventist church which I am affiliated with. I have been a Seventh-Day Adventist for over 10 years. I have 3 sons. Two of them have attended Discoveryland. My middle son went here when he was 3 years old. By the time he was in Kindergarten, his teacher had informed me that he was reading at a second grade level. Needless to say, I was shocked! So, I enrolled my youngest son last year. Before, I did though, I took him there to make sure it was where he wanted to go. I started he out going only 2 days a week just to see how he likes the school. He loved it! Every day he would wake me up, tells me that we need to hurry because he doesn't want to be late to school! Can you believe it?! This from a 4 years old. Just so everyone knows, I am a very involve parent in my children' education. I spend a lot of time at their schools. The school: 1) Very nice playground, lots of room for the kids to play, 2 separate play area for the kids 2) Vegetarian meals are prepared for the kids, which I like (save me time, I don't need to prepare lunch/snack for my child and is healthy) and is included in the fees 3) Teachers that care for the kids, I mean really care for the kids. I've spent some time talking to the teachers. When my son first started and they gave us homework, I was shocked. My son and I worked in his workbook. We finished it all in one day. The teachers asked for my feedback on the homework. I told them that we finished it in one day. They then gave additional homework. I thought that was great. So, I have no idea why other reviewers don't think that they focus on academics. They do!!!!!! 4) The teachers reads to the kids and they also sing songs. 5) If your child should ever have a small boo boo, the teachers inform you right away. This also show that they care about your child. 6) The schools fees are really reasonable considering that it is a private school that includes meals for the kids, not just any meal but healthy meals. The bottom line is, if you truly love your child, you should work with the school (teachers &staff) to help them grow into healthy, loving, respectful, bright adults. Volunteer in the school whenever you can. Spend time with the teachers & the staff, get to know them. read more

This school has strong emphasize on social skill and arts & crafts which I like for my daughters. They enjoy it as well and adore their teachers which is a good indicator of how they are being treaterd As for academics, their mediocre which I don't really believe should be pounded on pre-k's anyway. read more

My son attended a Montessori preschool for 2 weeks before we changed to Discoveryland. He loves discoveryland, tons of toys (also computers!) and very very nice teachers. There are two teachers for 8 students for the 2 years old class when he first there. In his first two months in school my son has already showed great improvement - potty training done, no more pacifier during day time or nap time, nap great and good eating habit! My 2 yrs old makes new friends there, and love to play in the huge yard and I am always surprise to see new words and hand crafts he learned and made in school. After 5p kids different classes play together in a room or at the yard, and my son enjoys playing with other kids always want to stay longer when I come to pick up. read more

I was not impressed and only left my child there for 3 weeks. The teachers changed from week to week and I did not know what room she would be in when I picked her up. The office does a great tour, which is what sold me on going there but what they say is not what they do. Considering the last two reviews were in 2007 and it is now 2009 I would say that a lot has probably changed. It may be great for day care but certainly not for a two day preschool. read more

We love this preschool. My daughter like her teacher a lot. She is very happy. My daughter started talking more, counting, sharing, etc etc. I like their system of teaching.
