Sending your first child off to preschool is such a strange emotional experience. You know they're ready, but as a first-time parent, there is still so much anxiety in handing your previous little human over to what are, at first, essentially strangers and trusting that they'll be cared for, understood, and loved. We scoured Yelp for some answers and landed on Sunshine School. Sunshine made that transition so much easier for us. I still remember our very first tour. One of the students came up and befriended Ellie while we were there -- and the two of them ended up being friends all the way through their last day of preschool together. It feels like such a perfect little snapshot of our experience at Sunshine. The teachers truly cared about Ellie, and she loved every one of her teachers from the very beginning. They put so much effort into creating fun projects and activities for the kids, and we loved watching how much she learned and grew there. Special shoutouts go to Ms. Lu, Ms. Yula, Ms. Jenny, Ms. Carole, Ms. Summer, and Ms. Kelly! We also really appreciated the Mandarin immersion. I don't speak much Mandarin myself (my high school Mandarin course is but a distant memory here), but Ellie's dad and grandparents do, so having her encouraged to hear, learn, and actually use the language at school has been such wonderful exposure for her. She came home singing songs, using words and phrases, and clearly feeling comfortable with the language in a way I never could have given her on my own. More than anything, Sunshine became a place where we felt comfortable leaving our daughter every day -- which, for an anxious first-time preschool parent, is probably the highest compliment I can give. And I think the most telling review is this: we'll be back. We have a younger child, and when he's old enough, we fully plan to enroll him at Sunshine too. There really isn't a stronger endorsement than trusting the same school with your next baby. We are also enrolling Ellie in the after school program as she enters TK. My son has been attending school here since he was two years old. The scenery outside the school is beautiful, the environment is quiet, and the teachers are very patient and have professional teaching experience. My son does not speak language yet, but he has been well taken care of by all the teachers here, who have given him love and excellent education. A great Chinese-English bilingual preschool. There are three classes for kids in different ages, with their own curriculum. My daughter enrolled in the junior class, and she's graduating soon from the senior class. She really loves sunshine and so do the parents Some highlights are Sunshine school provides morning snacks, freshly made lunch and afternoon snacks. The lunch menu rotates between pizza, pasta with meat sauce, noodles or rice with veggies and meat. The different classes shared the same building with soft divider. So the kids from different ages sometimes play together. I think this is pretty helpful. My daughter observed how the older kids work and play and learnt from them. The teachers super caring and loving. They always give the parents constructive feedback on the kid's behavior and suggestions for better growth. My daughter Nora has been in Sunshine School Vinci Park location when for more than 1year. And she loves here very much. The teachers are incredibly patient and caring and she loves them so much especially Mrs Huang. If you want your child to be well taken care of, I highly recommend Sunshine Vinci Park. My daughter has severe eczema, and after informing the teachers, they regularly apply ointment as needed. Nora learned and played so happily when she was here so I am truly appreciated for the care that every teacher at Sunshine has provided for Nora during this time. read more

My daughter attended Sunshine School at Vinci Park for a year. She was very shy and did not want to play with any of the kids at the beginning. Her teachers proactively encouraged her to interact with her peers. After several months, she opened up and made new friends and happily talks to everyone. The teachers are very warm and greets all the parents and kids with a big smile every day. The director loves to chat with the parents. I appreciate the open commmunication. We wanted to stay for another year but we recently moved. Thank you Sunshine School for providing a loving environment for the kids. My daughter started going to her new school this week and she did not revert back to her shy self. She already made friends on her first day. My son attended Sunshine at Vinci Park site. We chose this preschool because it's bilingual and close to home. He was there for more than a year and enjoyed the time at school with the teachers and little buddies, also learned a few phrases in English. He had to leave the school only because we moved to a different city. The Vinci Park site is located within an elementary school. The site itself is not large, but it has everything my son needed to play and learn. We usually went to the playground of the elementary school after picking him up, really convenient especially in Summer when the daytime is longer. The teachers took care of my son and I could always see his happy face when I was at the door for pickup. He'll definitely miss his dear teachers: Ms. Emily, Ms. Cai, Ms. Summer, Ms. Anna, Mr. Andy, and Mr. James! read more

Ms. Mary, Ms. Vivian, Ms. Laura, Ms. Lisa, Ms. Diana, Ms. Emma. Those are my son's teachers at the Sierra branch and he loves them all. He started at 2.5 years old and was with a home babysitter before that. We took his babysitter with us to check out the school because she used to be a preschool teacher and we wanted her opinion of the places we were checking out. I asked her what she thought about technique and the quality of toys and the schedule, etc, and she said none of that matters as much as if the teachers are caring and attentive. From what she saw, the teachers at both Sierra and Vinci Park seemed very kind and the kids were happy and responsive to them, so either got her seal of approval. We chose Sierra because it was closer to us, and we love it. It is in a quiet, beautiful area and you can sometimes see deer in the lawn. The Teachers are by far the best part. I like how they spend a lot of time on artwork because it's not something I do at home with my kids. They take the kids outside as often as they can. The only criticism I have is the food that they serve is not the best quality - Little Caesars pizza, margarine on bread, and Frosted Flakes cereal, but they will happily serve something you bring. I cannot really complain because I'm just happy they provide food, and we try to serve our kids healthy breakfast and dinner, so he'll survive. One of my friends kids had an opening at her preschool and they serve healthy home cooked meals, but I turned it down because the babysitter is right - the most important thing are the teachers, and Ms. Mary, Vivian, Lisa, Laura, Diana and Emma - and even the teachers in the other classes who i don't know their names, but they know my son, are all great. My son is happy, is learning Chinese, as well as a ton of other stuff, and has the support of all those wonderful ladies as he goes through the terrible twos and threes :) read more

My 2.5 year old son has been attending Sunshine school for almost a year now. Specifically, he attends the Berryessa location off Halgrim. It is the 3rd daycare he has attended and probably the last because we LOVE it here, and aren't planning on leaving. One of my pre-requisites in looking for daycare other than proper childcare, was Mandarin speaking teachers. I speak 75% Chinese to him at home with my limited Chinglish, but having the teachers at Sunshine school reinforce the language has really helped him immensely with his Chinese speaking abilities. At 2.5 years, even my mom who is a Chinese school teacher, says he has advanced language skills! There are 4 staff members at Halgrim. Teacher Chen is wonderful and she is so sweet to my son, as well as all the other kids there. She always gives him a kiss after school before he leaves for the day. I think it's so adorable! Lily Ah Yi, Zhou Ah Yi and Nai Nai are the other caretakers at this location, and they are ALL wonderful! My son is happy going to school every morning and he is well taken care of. This is a review of the Sunshine School Vinci Park location. My daughter began going to this school at the age of 2, and she is 4.5 now. This is hands-down THE best Chinese immersion school in the North San Jose/Berryessa area. The director Ms. Lucy and her staff go above and beyond to make sure that the children are well taken care of and received the proper education for their age. The school's daily activities are very diverse and Audrey enjoys them very much. I could not have asked for a better school. I'm grateful to have found this school. It allows me to go to work every day with peace of mind, knowing that my daughter's in great hands! I highly recommend this school and highly commend that you look beyond the modest facility that houses the school. The teachers at Sunshine School offer a level of care that money really cannot buy. With the uptick in real estate my wife and I wanted to move to a different area of San Jose for a bigger house...that was until my family and I found Sunshine school. This school and it's program and teachers have made it really hard for us to want to leave the Berryessa Area. This review is for the Sunshine School at Vinci Park location. Our daughter just graduated from this school and she was there for 2 years. She was a very shy girl when she first started (this was her first preschool), but the staff, especially Ms. Lucy and Ms. Marlene, helped her tremendously to gain her confidence. And to our surprise she was able to perform dances representating Sunshine School on community stage multiple times during her 2 years stay! Sunshine is a fun, nurturing environment that brings out the very best of kids in preschool age. It is a bi-lingual (English and Chinese Mandarin) school. Playground is tad small but they do provide kids with lots of outdoor fun such as cycling, painting, bubble, gardening, etc, and indoor fun with arts, crafts, songs, and dances! Kids at preschool age enjoy going to this school. Our daughter has been nagging about going to school, even during the weekends, that tells us how much she loved going to this school. :) Teachers at Sunshine School are loving, caring, patient, and very creative! They are always attentive to individual kids needs. We always see hugs and laughters whenever we drop off and pick up our daughter. We love that there are multiple dancing and singing performances throughtout the year. Each performance truly shows Sunshine teachers' dedication and effort as they bring out the talents from kids, laughters and memories for parents. At the end of the school year, like all other graduating parent, we received a personalized photobook with our daughter's school life and moments since the first day she joined Sunshine. It always brings memories and joy whenever we flip through this photobook, to see how she have grown over the 2 years there. Very touching and caring gift! We love Sunshine school. Sunshine has several locations for kids in different age group. It also has an after school right next to Ruskin Elemantary. The owners are very helpful and friendly. In addition, they are very very good at selecting loving caring teachers. My kid love going to school there. The teachers are not there for a job, they really love and care for your kids. Sunshine preschool creates a postive environment and many enrichment classes such as dance, art, sport for your kids to enjoy. There is also Halloween party and an annual talent show, where your kids get to perform and show their talenst. At the same time, they also can learn both Chinese and English. The tuition is very affordable. Overall, this is a well-run, excellent school. I highly recommand this school to any parents. read more

I love Sunshine preschool! Compared to a lot of preschool/daycare I have walked through with my daughter, Sunshine is the only place that no matter what time of day you pop in, the teachers are always smiling and hands on with the kids. Even the director or person in charge, Emma, is actively working with the children. I've been to other schools and most of the directors just sit in their office. This place show great dedication in caring for little kids and they do it with a smile. This place DOES NOT charge you $100 application fee. Hours of 8:30-6:00. I like that they serve my daughter lunch and snacks so I don't have to worry about packing food for her and she eats the same thing as other kids. They make sure to put sunblock on your child before letting them play outdoor. They also teach Chinese which is a plus. They sing, dance, and learn. I even noticed that it doesn't matter what class your child is in, every teacher seem to notice you and your child. I would walk in not knowing where my daughter is, and a teacher from another class will point to me "she's outside." We have found a great fit for our girl. It's important to have kids learn to be independent and well disciplined but I also find it more important for kids to have fun while learning at the toddler age and Sunshine fulfill. read more

We sent our 2 sons to Sunshine school until they went to Kindergarten. We were very happy with our experience. If we had another child to send to them, we'd be happy to. Our first son, started at age 2 at Sunshine preschool. Previously, he had been taken care of by a nanny. Sunshine school helped a lot in undoing some bad habits he had learned there. The teachers were patient and helped him learn good values, manners and discipline, apart from knowledge. Since we were happy with the care he received, we sent our 2nd boy to their infant care facility at the Emerald location, starting at 3 months old. Our 2nd boy then continued with Sunshine preschool after he was age 2. At the infant care and the preschool, they provided food for the children, which was often home cooked meals at the infant care. There was more than 1 person taking care of each small group of kids at all times. They were read to, and played with. Sunshine did most of the work of potty training both of our children. We moved out of the immediate area, but kept our children at Sunshine due to the quality of care the kids got there. Spending extra time to commute back to North San Jose was worth it since we didn't think we'd find a better bi-lingual pre-school for our boys. We also know of another family that moved near us that regretted taking their kids out of Sunshine and then sent them back after a few months. We will always fondly remember Sunshine School and are grateful for quality care that the teachers at Vinci Park pre-school and Emerald infant care provided. read more

Our 5 year old little girl had just come from China last September. She can't speak English, it is quite difficult to find a right daycare for her. My friend told me about Sunshine that have bi-language teaching , suggest us to have a try. Sunshine had Chinese lessons, telling story ,singing songs to be more exact, and English ones in the afternoon. I also let her to attend the reading class which teach the pronunciation well. 9 months past, my little girl can tell story in English (ignoring grammar mistakes of course:) with lots of nice words. Sunshine school also held parties in holidays. My little girl was taught to dance that she love to dance so much now, once there is music, she will dance, no matter well or not ,she was really happy when she do so. Our little girl will go to the kindergarten this Aug , after nearly one year in Sunshine School , she get ready to take the first step to the Elementary school. I am the parent of two daughters who attended Sunshine School. What a great school! I still remembered the first day my little girl into the school. She was welcomed by Ms. Mary and Ms. Luo with arms wide open. At Sunshine, my children learned so many wonderful things. They comes home, excitedly demonstrating how to spell words, clapping and counting syllables as though this is the be all and end all and everything exciting in the world. My little angel is going to be 2 this July. She has been attended Sunshine@Halgrim for half a year. At this moment, I feel I must share with everyone how amazing this kids' heaven is: we have moved our home to 20 miles away for over one month, but I am reluctant to get her drop out of Sunshine@Halgrim. Sunshine sets such a high standard there and it raises my expectation for what a good school should be. I am busy looking for a school close to my new home, but till now I have not found one as good as Sunshine. Ms. Chen Laoshi, Ms. Zhou Ayi, Nainai, Lily Ayi, they are so caring. They make kids feel like home. In Sunshine kids learn in a relaxed environment and the learning process there is so natural. During the past half year, my daughter picks up her language skill quickly: she sings aloud at home and brings us a lot of surprises and joys with her new learnings. She would sing "Wo de hao ma ma" with her little fists pounding on my back; she would dance with song "Ba Luo Bo"; she can speak Chinese with sophisticated sentence structure. She also learns English there: she is now able to say some colors, foods, and animals in English; also, she sings many English songs. What's more important, she has developed good habits with Sunshine's education: she would put her shoes onto shelf after we took off her shoes; she would clean up her toys after playing; she eats well and sleeps well. She learns to be polite to others: she would say "please" and "thank you", before and after you did her a favor. The classroom is bright and spacious. The playground there is full of joy while no worry of sunburn because of shelter. I feel lucky that we found sunshine. I am sure I am going to take her to another school because my suffering in the traffic, but more surely, those great memories Sunshine brought to my family would last for ever. read more
