I had dish for 17 years and the bills were outrageous. The service wasn't great either had 250 channels because if nor I'd not get the channels I really wanted and literally I only needed like 4 channels. They sucker u in with lies etc. I finally had enough got a roku and better internet and terminated service. When I called to cancel I thought they'd try get me something like better deals or prices but nope not even sorry to lose u as a loyal customer etc. They're prices are ridiculous. And I can't understand why especially with all streaming apps and roku etc. U think they try to lower or keep their longtime loyal customers. One more thing my bill literally for top 250 nothing more was 200$ a month and if u were late they shut service off. I have been with dish for several years, but when It came to my move to a new apartment, which I asked to be moved on the first of October the incompetence I received was just plain stupid. I explained to a supervisor that most of America moves on the first of every month. Her response to the me was her saying that she was American ???? Ok what does that have to do with what I am saying ? I reiterated that most America moves in to an apartment on the first which is the date I ask for in the first place. I had been with DirecTV for 7 years and hated having to hassle with them every year to lower my bill to a price I was willing to pay. It was the same thing every year, call them up and tell them that my bill was too high and then they would enact some discounts that would save me about $30 a month but were only good for a year. So the next year I'd have to call them up and do it all over again. Well last November when I called to complain about my bill they refused to lower the rate. I guess that now they're a part of AT&T they are unwilling to negotiate on price. So I decided to try switching to DISH. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! DISH suckers you in with their low initial rate but then once you add in extra packages to get what you want it ends up costing MUCH more. I believe their current introductory package starts off at $39. Sounds pretty good right? But wait, you want local channels? Well that's not included. You have to pay an extra $10 a month for that. Who the hell doesn't want local channels?!?! You want a DVR? That's extra also. You have 2 TV's? Yep there's an extra charge for that too. So my monthly bill ended up being $70 a month. That's quite a jump from $39 but still better than I was getting with DirecTV so I decided to go for it. The phone operator told me about the 2 year contract and I told him, "Hey wait a minute. I'm not signing up for 2 years when I haven't even tried your service out yet." I forget what he told me exactly but he definitely gave me the impression that I could cancel if I didn't like the service. When the DISH installer came out to set up my equipment I also asked him about a trial period and he told me I had 30 days to cancel. So everything was going OK until the day of the Super Bowl. We missed the end of the game so I tried to find highlights on ESPN only to find out the package I had did not include ESPN!!!! I called up DISH and was told, "If you want sports channels, that's an extra $10 a month." Gimme a break. What a scam! So now I'd have to pay $80 a month for pretty much basic cable. No pay channels like HBO. I just wanted the standard stuff like Food Network, HGTV, ESPN. So the next higher package was $84 a month and included ESPN but took away DIY and Cooking Channel!!!!! How frickin lame!!! So now I wasn't saving money over DirecTV anymore and decided to cancel the service. I had DISH send out the installer to remove their DISH and take their boxes back. To top it all off now they're trying to charge me a $500 early termination fee even though 2 people at their company told me their was a trial period!! I have filed a complaint with the Denver Better Business Buereau and I will be taking DISH to small claims court if they refuse the waive the fee. Stay far away from this company people. Their channel packages are completely predatory and set up so that the only way you can get the channels you want is to pay for the expensive plans. read more

Worst. Cable. Provider. Ever. Save your time, money and headaches by going elsewhere. RCN, Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon, Hulu, YouTube, Blockbuster, Netflix, redbox, even hand puppets by candle light are a better option than Dish. A 2 year contract with Dish only guarantees 2 years of horrible cable service, terrible customer service and way too much time spent calling to troubleshoot/report service issues or dispute charges. Oh, and don't forget all the time spent navigating through their automated menus. I would typically take the time to give you examples of why they are terrible, but I've already wasted too much time on Dish's crap. Just take your business elsewhere, if you can. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE FINE PRINT. The service is great. Installation guy was nice. I think that this service has the best HD quality compared to BELD (A local cable provider located in Braintree), Comcast & Verizon FIOS. Football games, movies and television shows were crystal clear using the same model of TV. No service is perfect however. I experienced a small outage during a really bad thunder and lightning storm which dropped my connection for about 5 minutes. I had my satellite professionally installed on the roof of my condo and it had perfect view of the sky with no obstruction. Not a big deal considering in any bad whether, you can expect the same outages with cable. Be warned of the $24.99 offer. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE LOCAL SPORTS networks like NESN. This would require an upgrade in your plan if you are a red sox and bruins fan. I haven't had time to fiddle with the DVR aspect of my box yet but will report about it as soon as i get a chance. I currently pay for america's top 120+ plus DVR service $6. Between the two major satellite companies, Dish Network seems to be the most cost effective solution for satellite pay tv. One more thing, i heard that Cable boxes and satellite boxes have a "handshaking" issue when connected to a receiver with an HDMI input. I went the safe route and used the HD Component cable to connect to my Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver. You would also need a optical cable to transmit the high definition sound to your receiver as well. read more

After 4 years of having them we are DONE. We had a basic package and 2 DVRs. Well they took AMC and switched it so that we would have to upgrade to at LEAST an America 120 package or better. So I called and spoke w/ Customer service and the BEST deal they were willing to offer me to "have amc plus one dvr (we'd send the other back)" was $61 and change per month. LOL! I told her - you either need to do better than that or you will be cancelling my account. She said that was the best she could do and that no one would be able to authorize anything better. So ... OK ... cancel me! Now the really interesting drama starts. We already had the original 2 boxes and really just needed shipping labels but they insisted on sending 2 new boxes. Ok whatever. But only ONE of them actually had a shipping label. And so the phone calls start .... again and again - and I speak to MANY people about getting "either 1 more label or a box with a label". Seems simple, right? NO! Everyone promises they will help and nothing happens. Then the email to customer service .... no response. Finally today I do an online chat and am promised a new box w/ label. will I get it? I doubt it. But i no longer care and I am done trying. Dish TV took no responsibility to resolve or pay for the damage their contractor caused. Recently tenets of my condo property hooked up Dish Tv. Dish Tv evidently hires 'third party contractor' and this was not disclosed, There was damage done to another condo's Direct Tv system in the building. Dish TV was called, went to to the property, a couple days later, couldn't discern what the problem was so they told the occupant of that condo to 'call his provider to fix'. That occupant called Direct TV and was charged a fee, now the occupant wanted me /my tenets to pay Direct Tv bill! After being a dish customer for over 7 1/2 yrs they interrupt my service because of not returning two broken receive wish I do amid I didn't return it due to not having return label so I called them and asked for some ..after some time that passed they shut me off I had to call back and explain to them about the damn labels again they said they couldn't do anything to turn it back on unless I pay or get the receivers .. again this is their problem but they make it mind .. so they gave me a grace period 9 days just got the boxes yesterday send them out today and come home to find it off again .. Here is a copy of my Better Business Bureau Complaint against Dish Network. According to the Better Business Bureau Website, the national company receives, upon average, 245 new complaints per month. I hope you never make the mistake of subscribing to Dish Network, or its affiliate company Echostar. ********* To whom it may concern: I am writing this complaint because DishNetwork entered me into an 18 month contract despite making multiple representations that they would not do so. After four months, I would now like to cancel my service, as I made clear on multiple occasions to DishNetwork that I would, and they are insisting that I pay a multi-hundred dollar cancellation fee. When I first called to schedule an installation, I told the agent on the phone that I was not interested in an 18 month contract, and that I did not want to receive the discount on the activation fee that would require me to agree to an 18 month contract. In fact, I had a detailed conversation that the reason we were purchasing DishNetwork was for the German language channels since we would be moving to Germany in 4 months. She assured me that it would not be a problem to cancel service after just 4 months. When the installation technician came to set up service, he and my wife had a lengthy conversation about our planned trip to Europe in the fall, and she made it eminently clear to him that we only wanted service for 4 months. He made no written note of this, nor did he mention that we would be required to pay cancellation fees if we followed through with our plan. Since we had previously been assured that we would not be bound to an 18 month contract, and because the technician insisted that she didn't need to look at the papers, because he had already told her about everything, my wife did not read all of the very fine print on the installation papers she signed that, according to DishNetwork representatives, as I have yet to receive a copy of the signed papers from them, bound us to an 18-month service term. In addition, there is no mention anywhere on the website that an 18-month commitment is required, and it in fact discloses that service can be cancelled at anytime without disclosing any fees associated with cancellation. A phone representative I spoke with agreed that my complaint was reasonable and apologized for the misleading, even fraudulent, action by DishNetwork but she was unable to relieve me from the contract, though she offered to refund my payment for the period from August 7 to September 6 if I cancelled service immediately. I paid 59.99 a month for a service that constantly had issues every time I called to fix the problem I was given the same answer you have exceeded your usage for the month. Dish is currently handling Samsung washer repairs due to the recent safety issues. First tech did not do the repair as he said the dryer would first have to be moved out of the way and stated he was not allowed to lift equipment. He did however reschedule my appointment and explain the repair details. Before the second appointment, I had two guys come in and move the dryer, so at this point everything was disconnected. However, the rescheduled appointment was a total bust. The morning of the appointment I hadn't received the hour-in-advance call - so I called Dish twice to inquire about the specific time window, and they assured me the tech would call. So I left the house to drop my kid at school. Then on my 3rd call to Dish, they then contacted the local dispatcher and reported that the tech apparently arrived during the 10 min that I was out of the house, called my phone but didn't leave a message, and then just left. It's completely possible that he never actually stopped by. I requested to be rescheduled for the same or next day and Dish was willing to reschedule but only for more than a week out. On my 5th call to Dish, they pushed it to only 5 days out. Unbelievable bad service when they should have taken responsibility for their tech messing up. read more

@Furry, I am sorry but you are full of bologna. The tech would not tell you you did not have to look at the paperwork for one reason. They must turn those in to their office each and every night for signature verification. There is a contract in all circumstances unless you select decline on the paperwork, at which time it is a $99 fee for the installation and you may be required to pay an upfront cost for equipment... You were NOT told otherwise. @Eric, again you did not receive random charges on your account. The random costs I think you are referring to would be lease costs for the receivers, a protection plan of $6 per month which is free for 6 months, then will be found on your bill. This plan allows you to have a tech visit or $15 vs $90 without it... When you sign the paperwork there is a service agreement that lists the work done, then a DHA 24 month agreement with 4 sections, one for the 24 month term, one for the protection plan, one for the card used to qualify you (which is used to charge a customer retail cost of the equipment if they were to cancel and not return it). The last section is a verification of customer information i.e name, address, phone number, etc... Now I will say I am a former Dish Employee, I have since gone to work for Direct TV. I state this because I know their system, I know what you sign, I know how it works. One thing I hate to see is someone bad mouthing a company for their lack of intelligence when it comes to reading and signing a commitment of that length... You blame them, but it was you who did not read what you signed... You were NOT charged extra for anything, I see you wrote this in May of this year... This means that you had your subscription price locked in till Feb 2013, so even that cost did not go up... Take responsibility for yourself, it would make this world a better place... read more

After being a loyal DISH Network customer for at least 15 years, we finally decided to cut the cord. The costs had continued to rise and programming had diminished to mostly shopping channels. The programming choices on the networks and other stations weren't the fault of DISH, but we were tired of paying more than $600 per year for something we really weren't enjoying watching. Our original contract with DISH Network ended the March 27, 2012. We were proactive and called DISH Network March 22 so there would be plenty of time to receive a return kit and ship their equipment back to them. That was the beginning of a four month ordeal with Dish Network in simply trying to obtain a return kit from them. After spending many hours utilizing chat and phone conversations, securing assurances and promises multiple times that a return kit was on its way, it was never forthcoming. And then we received an unauthorized charge on our credit card account for the unreturned equipment. We had been lied to, billed, and then charged without authorization, for equipment that we had been willing to return since before our original contract ended. That was when we felt we had no alternative than to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It was only after we contacted the BBB that we received an adequate resolution. It should never have had to come to that. We have lost faith and trust in DISH Network and will never do business with them again. read more

I had Dish network at a seasonal cottage on the Cape. The service was just ok (I've switched to Comcast) but the customer service was dreadful. I stopped the service last November, sent them back their equipment, paid off the last bill. Today I get a call from a bill collector telling me that I owe Dish $36--$18 of which is for returning their equipment. When I told him that I had never heard a word from them they said that was true--according to the bill collector's information Dish had last reached out to me last November. So they are out to ruin my credit rating for no good reason. I will never use Dish again and would not recommend them to anyone else. read more
