My laptop wasn't charging. I first took it to MicroCenter in Cambridge and it was going to be 24-48 hours for Microcenter to give me a quote for the repair. I first called Alpha and they were very helpful for free. Finally stopped in a 5PM and they quickly determined - (under five minutes I had a bad power supply). My Dell Laptop hinge broke on a 1.5 year old laptop. I called Alfa Computer and they answered the phone right away and I was able to bring the laptop to them right away without an appointment. They were able to diagnose the issue, provide a quote to repair, and order a part which arrived within a day or 2. They also made the repair same day as part arrived in under 2 hours and promptly called to say I could pick my laptop up. They did a fantastic solid job on the repair and my laptop is like new! I hired Alfa a couple of years ago to assemble a dual boot ubuntu-windows machine from parts I had assembled. The idea was that this was a deep learning box with windows for the occasional game (e.g., Forza Horizon). In January of this year the machine stopped booting and would just cycle the power on and off so I brought it back to Alfa for repairs. After three months, most of which was spent with these guys ghosting me and complaining that there was a problem with my phone (there wasn't - T-Mobile is still in business), and complaining that they had trouble finding replacement motherboards, and that the replacements were all defective... they took it upon themselves to replace my motherboard with one they decided was more appropriate for my needs. I got the computer back FINALLY with a substandard motherboard that takes 3x times as long to boot. They also kept/lost my usb dongle for a wireless Razer mouse that I had stupidly left in there. Because I kind of expected to have the computer back in a week or two since it was supposed to be such a simple repair. I regret bringing the computer to Alfa and wish I had a way to go back in time and take it elsewhere. read more

I brought my laptop in because I thought it had water damage. The screen wasn't displaying anything. When I got there, it worked fine. But the employee still offered to take it apart to check for water damage inside. Luckily there was nothing wrong, he cleaned it up and handed it back to me. Terribly disappointed in this company! I was in need of finding onsite computer support services for a family member in Woburn and spoke to the owner. We agreed on the visit, time and location as well as hourly rate. He never showed up! When I called back, he was apologetic and we rescheduled for the following week. He never showed up again! Who doesn't show up twice? I wasted time in coordinating this as well as it being an awful inconvenience. I am taking my business elsewhere and would recommend others to do the same. read more

I am pretty brave with the Windows user interface and had gone through many attempts to fix my problem. A software app is automatically restarting my PC every couple of hours, even after I uninstalled it. The Alfa technician tried unsuccessfully to fix the issue, and several others. The only method he used was changing Windows settings. I was expecting help that went deeper into the registry and Bios because I knew it was not a matter of changing settings. I should have learned more about their approach and tech savvy before I hired them. read more

These guys were absolutely amazing! Polite and kind even when I brought in a relatively minor fix (broken key on my laptop that I couldn't fix myself). My HP All-in One computer's cd burner/ dvd player stopped working. I did what I could to check for problems, but as I thought, it was busted and it needed to be replaced. After asking a few friends for recommendation for a good computer repair shop, I was told by three of them to go over to Alfa. So I did. They looked at it right away and told me it would take two days and they would call me when it was ready. They called later that day and said it was done and I could pick it up. I did, first thing the next morning, and it was less than the estimate they told me. So my first experience with Alfa was faster and cheaper and my computer is running better than when I dropped it off! The first time I went to ALFA was to have them suck all of the dust out of my sony vaio. The process took 15 minutes and Joe didn't charge me a dime! (Of course I left him a nice tip so he could buy lunch on me) The second time I went to ALPHA (just yesterday), I went in to upgrade the RAM on my MacBook Pro from 4gb to 8gb. Parts + Labor cost less than half as much charged by Apple ton get the service done at the Genius Bar. Tan(the head honcho) is super knowledgable, friendly, and extremely fair. I would recommend this computer shop to anyone who is having any kind of computer problem, and I would absolutely return a third time if I myself run into any troubles. Two Part Review: Part 1: I can't recommend Alfa Computer highly enough. I was having a problem with a portable hard drive not working. I was really hopping to see if there was a way to get this baby going. I found out about ALFA through the Boston Checkbook Survey's and drove 30 minutes to Woburn. He took the time to explain how the drive works, (I'm technically clueless), tried a couple of ideas to get it going and none worked. I also had a small netbook with me with a screen issue, and he took the time to explain that too. Wasn't worth fixing because of the age and price of the netbook. I ask about the costs of his time and he didn't charge me at all. Part 2: Several days later my Dell Inspiron had a major video card problem, and I couldn't get the laptop to work in any mode other than safe mode. I have a contract with Dell and called. They tried everything and determined that I had a software problem, which wasn't covered under my plan. I'm technically clueless (see above) but I wasn't convinced it wasn't a video card problem. So back to Alfa I went. They took it in overnight, ran some tests and confirmed it wasn't software. He took an extra step and took a picture of the screen error get got with his cell phone and sent it to me. I picked it up and with his assessment and documentation I called Dell back and now have a new video card AND motherboard. He charged his flat rate fee of $45.00. I very small price to pay. Before I left with the Dell we did talk about the option of buying a new laptop from him, he took the time to hear what I wanted and made a recommendation. I never felt pressured, and he offered to roll the $45 into the new purchase. For PC support or a new purchase I'll be visiting ALFA computer. Thank you Tan! read more

Ultimately the computer was a loss (as I was pretty sure it would be), but Tan gave me some ideas on selling it to at least cover the attempted repairs. I am trying to remind the exact conversion between me and him. He totally not agree or accept that conversion. - I was excepting nice way to response but it is not the way to response.
