Two of us ate at Dish on 2/6/16. The cocktails were good, my partner's entree was good and the service was great. That leaves my entree, the scallops. I've had this entree a couple times before and always been pleased. While the taste was good, the quantity was desperately lacking. The scallops seemed smaller in size than before and the greens that came with it were also diminutive. I've had nearly every appetizer on the menu and all of them offer more sustenance than my entree did. I'm all about reasonable portions, but this was ridiculous. If nothing else, add more greens to leave the customer feeling closer to satiated and give the plate enough food to look at least half full. I think it will be quite some time before we return and it won't be for the scallops. read more

Great restaurant that has been on our regular rotation for years. New owner has kept its distinctive style and made nice changes to the menu. Last visit my spouse had scallops and I had the best chicken breast, tender, juicy & flavorful. Many ingredients sourced locally. Service was good, courteous, knowledgeable. Many entrees paired with sweet potatoes which is not my favorite, which is my only knock on this otherwise great local restaurant. read more

This place was ok, nothing special. For being in Nebraska I was a little skeptical anyway (sorry Nebraska), but Dish didn't show my any different. I ordered the Blue and Shrimp Salad, the veggies were fresh, the shrimp were soaking drenched in butter which made me glad that I got the dressing and the cheese on the side. I should have turned around when I came thru the door and the kitchen staff was chatting amongst themselves and never acknowledged that I had come thru the door. I think I had the best server on duty at the time, because the shorter of the two was rude. The only reason for the second star is that the server was so pleasant and professional. I did not find the food to be outstanding in fact the best thing was the iced tea! For the Urban, Upscale, Swanky image that Dish attempts to portray, they could stand some work. Uptown Manhattan, or River North in Chicago they are not. The unfortunate issue about it all is that the restaurant selections in downtown Lincoln are scarce at best. What's a girl to do? My husband and I ate here last year for my birthday. It was a Thursday night and the restaurant wasn't extremely full but we were sat at a tiny table so close to two other tables that the waitress had a tough time walking between them and it felt uncomfortably close. We could hear every detail of the other patrons conversations. We asked our waitress for her opinion between two bottles of wine and she didn't have much information about either. It would have been nice if she could have found someone who knew about these wines or if she could have asked someone. She also never had any eye contact with either of us the whole evening. It was awkward and it was like she was looking up over our table and heads. I had the mango duck and my husband had the filet. The waitress recommended the duck medium rare and I agreed. When we got our meal my duck was most definitely well done. My husbands steak was good, but I've had better filet elsewhere in town. read more

They took one and half hour to serve us. The food portion is so small that is not even enough. BAD experience overall.

Very disappointing. Had heard such great things, but from the reception, to the service, to the food, less than expected. We called for a reservation at 6pm, but were told they could only accommodate us at the bar. When we got there, the hostess was curt when we noted more than half the tables were empty, and pointed us to two seats (in the circulation path for everyone entering the restaurant) at the end of the bar (which was empty except for 3 women on the other end having drinks). We took it upon ourselves to move to more central seats. The bartender was attentive, and offered the night's specials of a peppered NY strip steak in a mustard cabernet sauce or crab legs with butter; both with sides of potatoes and Brussels sprouts. We thought those both sounded good, a nice shared surf & turf way to celebrate the Valentine's Day weekend. However, the steak was barely rare (ordered medium rare) flavorless (if there was a peppercorn anywhere on my plate, I never found it), full of gristle, soggy (not the typical firm of a good cut), and the worst example of a NY strip I've ever had. The crab legs were luke warm. Sad to say we'd ever go back when the best part of the meal were the Brussels sprouts. And while we had a fairly leisurely meal, there were at least 4 two-top table empty for the entire time we were in the restaurant. We left saying we won't be back. read more

Wow this place impressed me. I went in with high expectations (after hearing from multiple people that this is the top spot in town), and they didnt disappoint. Extremely pricey, but it was expected. I ordered the special. It was a seared duck with some sort of blackberry sauce with a poached egg, spinach, and peanut salad. Best meal I've had in a while but g darn did we pay for it. It was like $80 for the two of us, including 2 brew dogs and 2 glasses of wine. My fiance ordered the steak. It was good but not the best steak I've ever had. The 5 star solely comes from my plate, because it was amazing. I wore a hooded sweatshirt and felt very underdressed. Its super classy inside, most people were wearing collars. Great place for special occasions, but I won't be eating there often due to the hefty pricetag. read more

First time visit and probably last. Greeted with "Do you have a reservation?" Versus a nice hello. We did have a reservation. The place isn't very big so tough to determine why it took so long to get our drinks and food. Food tastes better when you're hungry, due to the wait, so tough to tell if it really was all that good. Staff showed no smiles and they appeared to be annoyed by the guests...stuffy. Lincoln is pathetic on restaurants and everyone in this town eats out. If you get a decent review from LJS your business will survive regardless of class or service. Skip The Dish. Visited Capital City Grill on Friday night and the staff was friendly and the food excellent. Seemed like they cared and smiles around. Passed about four Dish staff on the way out and not one made an effort to thank us for visting. They didn't care and neither do I...Omaha is only 45 minutes away. read more

My 89-year-old date and I both had the Corned Beef and Cabbage last week. It was, in a word, extraordinary; like you've never tasted corned beef before. Though the food was good and service started out on a positive note, the eventual experience for what was suppose to be a special celebration turned sour and was diverted into a huge disappointment.. Our reservation for 5 was made 6 weeks earlier to assure a table on what we knew would be a busy graduation Saturday. We were told on our 6:30 arrival that we had only until 8 to dine. We enjoyed cocktails and wines, appetizers and entrees. I had the crispy 1/2 duck with mango. It was surprising that the 1/2 duck was the bottom half, ($24+) 2 legs as opposed to the traditional portion of breast and leg, this might have been clarified by the informed server, it was not. For such prices and what portends to be an upscale restaurant one would think that service would reflect such intentions, it did not. Though some of us were done earlier then others, plates were cleared and to-go-bags were doled out as diners were still eating. the experience was quickly decaying We were abruptly and actually quite rudely informed that they had to turn the table over. At that point our bill was already at $250+. There would be no more conversation, coffee or dessert for us because we HAD to gooooo ...well go we did and never will we return. If there was such a dining restriction we should have been informed when making the reservation or at the very least a phone call should have been made prior in the week to tell us their "rules" for the night., so we could have changed venues. We were looking for a fine dining experience which was celebratory in nature, if we wanted a quick meal we would have gone for pizza and been treated a lot better. I regret leaving any tip at all... Dish has a lot to learn about customer service. read more

Enjoyed dinner at Dish last night. Nice restaurant, friendly host staff, good food server and very, very good, reasonably priced meal and dessert. I chose a glass of Matua Sav Blanc and the seared scallops served with a pea puree, Israeli couscous, and a shaved beet and fennel salad. I asked to have the couscous to be subbed with the Parmesan polenta and the food server, Nick, made the substitution without hesitation. Wine was a quite good Sav from NZ. Food arrived in just a few minutes. The scallops were served over the polenta, with the puree on the side. Good idea. I did have to send the scallops back to be finished cooking. They were too translucent, even for me. Nick took them back immediately. They came back perfectly cooked. Rest of the meal was great. I chose the creme brulee for dessert. Classic and not crowded with "nouvelle cuisine" add ons. Everything was delicious. Bravo. Thank you, Dish! read more

I also had sweet potato fries which were unfortunately packaged also I ordered a side of boursin mashed potatoes because boursin is the best cheese in the world. I have not been to the dish is a few years. The food has only gotten better and the ambiance greatly improved with the new lighting, remodeling and color scheme. Chef Green and the wait staff were very attentive. We had varied menu items, all of which were very good with great presentation. Wanting an intimate, downtown restaurant for her wedding reception dinner, my daughter selected the Dish. It was a perfect choice. From the planning stages to the final drinks of the evening, it was an excellent experience. Several guests commented that the salmon was the best they had ever eaten. The wait staff was extremely attentive, as was the owner/chef who personally attended one of our guests with an extreme seafood allergy. The restaurant allowed us to bring in our own table decorations, wedding cakes, and even printed a personal menu for our guests. We will not hesitate to return, and to recommend the Dish to everyone. I've never had anything but excellent meals and pleasant experiences there. It's a place I can count on. I am a vegan and this has never posed a problem, I always get a delicious meal. It was a nice entrance to the restaurant. The decor and atmosphere were appropriate. However, when we sat down at the table, we saw cracks and stains on the table top and these two flaws made me lost my appetite. Really really disappointed with this oversight from management. For the prices they command for their entrees, I expect more. They could have simply placed a white table cloth or paper and covered up the unappetizing sight. I had to use the plate to cover unsightly stains and tried to enjoy my dinner. Other than this very flaw, the mango crispy duck was very good for Lincoln. read more

Dish never disappoints! I've been there for lunch meetings, gatherings with girl friends, romantic dinners with my hubby, and family celebrations. The wait staff is well-trained and attentive enough for great service. The chef Green switches up the menu periodically to keep it interesting for returning customers. The food is always good. I'm a vegetarian and there is always an interesting option. He sources food from near-by farmers, so it's always fresh and wholesome. YUMMY! read more

We arrived with a party of four, no reservations, and the place was empty. We wanted to eat but the hostess said they had a full house that evening and we would have to be out by 715. Really?!?! Limiting how long a customer can stay? So, we each had an $8 drink, as we were waiting for one more in our party, and took our business down the street (Marz bar) and spent well over $200. We walked by on our way to the show, ~730pm, and saw at least four tables of four EMPTY!!!! Turning away business... Epic Failure!!! I've eaten at several restaurants the same caliber as The Dish and even with reservations, I end up waiting almost 30 minutes for my table. That's why there's a full bar! I'm giving one star not for the food (didn't get a chance to eat), but for the service. Management needs to take a hard look at the direction given to the front of the house. Of course, if they don't care, they'll contniue to lose out on potential business. read more
