There's something magical about Disneyland popcorn, and it's not just the smell that hits you the second you turn the corner toward the cart. Okay, okay, we all know the rumored Disney "Smellitizers" that pump manufactured buttery popcorn smells out of the carts (this is actually true), so minus a star for the fake-out. Popcorn is one of the healthier snacks on offer in the park, and it's always fresh and tasty. The kernels are perfectly popped, light, crunchy, and coated with just the right amount of salty-buttery goodness that keeps you reaching in for "just one more" handful. And while still overpriced at $6, it's not crazy expensive. The cast members always keep the cart spotless and the lines moving quickly, even when it stretches a dozen people deep like during parade and firework times. Bonus points for the adorable themed popcorn buckets that make the snack feel like a souvenir you can take home. You'll pay a pretty penny to get one, but who doesn't want a cheerful plastic bucket shaped like Oogie Boogie or Mickey Mouse or R2D2? I don't think a visit to Disneyland is complete with a stop at one of the park's many popcorn carts. Popcorn is such a great snack. Boxes are $5.50 Christmas Popcorn Bucket - $28.25 We hunted for the Christmas Bucket this pass weekend. They were at the Mark Twain stand. Line was an hour on Friday and only 15 minutes on Sunday. The only location that has caramel corn all year is in Hollywoodland in California Adventure in front of Elias & Co. I've heard the one at Small World is the best. I love how each popcorn cart is themed to the land and each is different. Super cute! I am, however, in the popcorn lines for the premium popcorn buckets! I'm not a crazy popcorn bucket collector, but there are a few I haven't been able to stay away from. Love the Millennium Falcon, Star Wars AT-AT Walker, and Minnie Balloon Bucket! Hunny also surprised me with a Toy Story Alien Holiday bucket. :). C'mon Disney it is dry, heated corn, oil and some salt! The second issue is taste / freshness. Disneyland does pop the corn at the cart, the problem is you don't know if you are getting a scoop of the fresh stuff or a scoop that has been sitting around since the park opened. At best, you are going to get a decently seasoned portion of popcorn sans the butter. At worst, you are getting something that contributes to all those mallard ducks remaining in Disneyland! In my experience, I have had less of the former and more of the latter. I might be personally responsible for screwing up several migration patterns! My complaints about quality and price will probably fall on deaf ears because the Disneyland Resort sells a staggering 185,000 lbs. of popcorn every year. For those concerned about their health, Disney uses only a combination of coconut, corn, and canola oil (vegan) to pop their corn and kosher salt. Popcorn in general is also free of gluten. I would have probably taken another star off, but Disneyland made a good overture with the AP Bucket and there are also two Souvenir Sippers (Chernabog and World of Color) available to passholders. The price for the sippers is $25.00 and it allows to either get regular beverage refills for $1.00 or for an additional 50 cents you can get a frozen beverage refill. In my opinion, the extra 50 cents is well worth the price. read more

A staple snack item at Disneyland (and Disney California Adventure) that can be found almost anywhere in (either) the Park. I am not much of a popcorn eater, but every now and then, walking around Disneyland with a bag of popcorn can be a nice treat. Themed popcorn buckets are now an option when purchasing popcorn. Don't want popcorn to mess up your themed popcorn bucket? No problem, just let the Cast Member know and chances are they will just put that popcorn in the standard paper bag container. Please note that popcorn buckets cost more than the regular cardboard bag container, so you will be charged accordingly. As it gets closer and closer to Park closing, some of the less visited popcorn carts may close early as well, so you may want to keep that in mind. read more

Popcorn tastes like plastic sometimes. Also they don't open enough popcorn stands so there can be long lines. For $4.25 they could give more popcorn instead of the small box. In my latest experience, my wife had purchased a AP bucket that could be refilled for $1 with your annual pass. I went to get the bucket refilled, but I was told, "You must have your ID?". Having your disney annual pass isn't enough. I thought that it was ridiculous that you needed an ID. What was that photo ID that you took and have recorded in your system? As mentioned before 1) Disneyland already has a record of my id in their system. 2) They already know that I entered the system, as it would show that I entered and beeped into the system with my annual pass. Rules like this.. simple as they may be make no sense at all. Please don't even take my photo at all if you're not going to use it. Needless to say, the attendant was not nice or helpful and just said, "It's the rule." In customer service 101, I would have just said nicely, "I'm sorry that we did not make that clear. Next time would you please bring your ID. Here is your popcorn for just this time." Good old disneyland customer service at their best. Disneyland does junk food right. Freshly popped throughout the day in both parks and with TONS of butter, the "scoop" is a generous paper container filled to overflowing with the popped corn ($4.25).
