And some employees do not handle products with the proper sanitary care ie - seafood and deli (please change your gloves after touching meat products and moving on to dairy. Also please wrap the seafood products properly to avoid leakage. And do not use the same gloves to wrap the food that you used to cut the fish. The raw fish is on your gloves that you touch and spread to the outside of the wrapper that a customer now places in their cart.). On the flip side, every experience I've had with the cheese and wine department has been very good. Now the quality of most products and food here is great. Though the standards aren't what they use to be it's still Whole Foods. The store also is a little compact compared to most Whole Foods. If there were more space I think this would be a ideal spot for a PLNT burger.

The truth is I'm so in love with While Foods. But this one is failing short. The customer service…read moreis a little off which is very weird for me. I recently visited this Whole Foods and there was mold on their feta cheese on the salad bar. I pointed it out to the attendant she only scooped it out and put the same spoon back into the tray. That was my last straw. I probably won't eat at this hot bar. But I'll definitely continue to shop here.

MOM's is awesome! They also have some great freshly baked breads and even their own coffee roasted in Baltimore (and typically roasted within 1-2 weeks). Beyond this, the staff are always super friendly and attentive and the store is clean and organized with a natural flow. Pro Tip: they have free coffee in the back by the dairy section (and brewed with their beans!)

This is by far the best grocery store in NW DC - far better than the Whole Foods locations. The…read morequality of produce here is incredible - head and shoulders above Whole Foods. They also have the best selection of organic, low-processed, and natural products. As someone who shops here consistently, I can also say confidently that they have better prices than Whole Foods. For example: Organic Valley dairy products? Cheaper at Mom's. Siggis and other premium yogurt brands? Cheaper at Mom's. Free range and cage free eggs? Cheaper at Mom's. Anything packaged or jarred? Cheaper at Mom's. Nobody can beat Whole Foods price on avocados and a few things like that - they sell those at a loss to trick people into believing Whole Foods is cheaper. But if you compare normal products, Mom's is consistently cheaper and runs as many if not more sales.

The medical card is free, and while Andy and others are super nice, it doesn't make up for the fact they're out of everything 23/6. You may get lucky and get some poorly rolled joints for cheap, but if you can, get the med card and just find a spot near your house; the new pen I got from a downtown DC Spot was great and only $20 more than Smoke Island PLUS my med card was free. I'd recommend other spots unless you're 18-20, or strapped on cash.

I am writing to say two things, the first descriptive, the second complimentary. The first thing is that like many other smoke shops nowadays, this is not primarily a place catering to those who want cigars or pipe tobacco. That said, they have a bit, enough that I've purchased from there due to the convenient location. I'd rate them as better than most of their peers in this regard. The second is the clerks are friendly and helpful. I was surprised they recognized my wife and me the second time we went in. That is unusual. Or perhaps we are a distinctive couple. So if you are in upper NW DC and in need of what they offer, Smoke Island is a fine choice.
