The instructors are highly knowledgeable in relating freediving theory to the students in ways that was comprehendible to everyone. For freediving the most difficult thing to overcome is not the meters, but equalization. Amancay has more than a bat-belt of tricks, techniques and exercises that get even the trickiest of ears to depth. Beyond the training; the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Unreal experience, as I was able to get certified by completing my first two dives at Cozumel on Day 1, and my final three dives at Cenotes El Pit and Dos Ojos on Day 2. I appreciated the diverse diving experiences I had over the two days and Blue Life's communication, professionalism, and kindness. Blue Life had all my gear set-up for me when I arrived, walked me through the dives we'd be completing, refreshed on hand signals and diving best practices, which was exactly what I needed. Even though cenote diving was new to me, I felt very safe with Oscar as he helped me adjust all of my gear both before and during the dive. Food and transportation were included in the price and I was very thankful that everything was prepared for me. I went back to Blue Life a couple days later after Oscar recommended that I check out C-53, a sunken ship off the coast of Cozumel. Francesco spoke very fast with a strong accent and said upfront that raising hands for questions is not acceptable to him during his training. All four of us struggled to understand him. The first dive was solid, but the second was just average - and we would have much preferred staying on the same reef rather than moving. More concerning were the safety and experience issues. During one dive, Francesco knocked my beginner son's mask off with his fin at around 35 feet. Our son managed to recover on his own (thxs to training from the guide and Dad), but it was a stressful and avoidable situation - especially for a newer diver and experienced guide. We also brought a GoPro to capture the experience, but were told we couldn't use it ourselves. We were told they would handle it and supplement with their phones, yet we ended up with zero photos or videos from either dive. That's probably the most disappointing part - no memories to take with us other than what we can recall ourselves. Overall, not a terrible dive, but far from the experience we expected. The combination of safety concerns and lack of follow-through left us very disappointed.

I live in the USA, and am now 71…read moreyears old with some health issues, but when I was in my mid 30s up until about 15 years ago, I went diving a lot. The numerous times that I was at Playa del Carmen, I was diving with Tank-Ha. I am truly pleased to see that they are in business still and from the ratings, are obviously doing a great job. When I was diving, I went to several cenote dives with them and a videographer named Steve from California. He was employed with Tank ha, or at least served their clientele on an exclusive basis. He and I got to be very good friends. I don't know if he is still there, or if he is still even in Mexico, he was about my age. Happened to recently find some of the old VHS tapes that I got when I went diving with Steve through Tank ha. After a dive day, he would take a few of us to his house, serve us beer and popcorn, and show us that days diving videos which we obviously purchased. When I ran across these the other day, they brought back some really great memories and I cannot imagine that the dive shop has done anything but improve. They were the greatest then and I'm sure they're even better now.

We all threw in more cash for the tip and gave him an additional $140. It's worth every penny. We were dropped off around 1:30 and still had the rest of our afternoon to explore Playa. I had barely known Eddie for a few hours, but he already felt like a close friend. His genuineness and love for what he does really comes out in the tour. I will recommend this tour to anyone i know that's going anywhere close to Playa. I hope this review brings Eddie more business for him and his whole crew. I could type another 7000+ characters but words cannot explain the day we had. Our group chose the reef and cenote tour on July 28th with 6 people. During the ride to the national park location, Eddie explains various facts and information about the reef that we'd shortly be exploring. He is very knowledgeable and you can tell he truly enjoys what he does. Eddie prefers that you do not apply any sunscreen, even the biodegradable kind. He explained that even the bio friendly stuff harms some of the corals, so pack your rash guards/ long sleeve dry fits! For our lunch, the van pulled up to a roadside tent with about 20 people gathered around, listening to music and having a good time. They were serving pulled pork more or less. Eddie explained that the family had cooked the pig underground. We each received a torta and a taco. All of our food was great in Mexico, but these roadside tortas were out of this world. They had red onions and roasted habanero to top the torta and tacos. I love hot foods and this was the best habanero I've had. We all raved to each other how great this food was while eating at a little table under the shade. After the meal, we all got back into the van and headed to the cavernous cenote, less than 10 minutes away.Eddie's whole crew is very flexible and caters to everyone's needs. When snorkeling in the cave/cenote, you can see everything with the dive lights. Its amazing what you see above and below the water here. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, the water is ice cold. We stayed at the Iberostar, which is not a dive resort, rather it is a resort which offers diving (what I mean by that is that the resort is not geared towards divers, there are no hooks or hangers to dry gear on your balcony, the restaurants allow people in bathing suits but not folded down wetsuits, there is no individual gear storage other than a small cubby and no provided locks). Anyway, on to the diving. Booking was very easy, I worked with a gal (who happened to be stationed in Spain) who helped me set up a package of dives, cenote excursions, and night dives. So everything was paid for when we arrived. Pros: - Almost all of the dive masters were awesome. Ricky was fantastic and so was Tania. We were always happy when we saw Ricky was our DM. He was the right amount of chill, knowledge, safety, and fun. -The dives were really fantastic. We only repeated one dive in 6 days of diving. - Water and fruit were available on the boat. -My husbands inflator hose malfunctioned and a guy in the dive shop fixed it for him with a spare part he had so my husband could use his equipment until we got home and get it serviced. -The boat staff were all very competent and helpful. -Free nitrox with your package. -Plentiful defogger on board -Short boat rides to amazing dive sites. Cons: - Before booking I asked if they had gear lockers. I hate toting all of our gear back and forth to a hotel room. I was told yes. When we arrived, we saw that there were not individual gear lockers, rather, small individual cubbies that would fit a few things but there were no locks. In additional, several of the cubbies didn't have chains on them to hold them secure even if you did have a lock. I asked if they had locks and they said they didn't. This meant we had to lug our gear back and forth to our hotel room and the dock, which sucked as the resort is expansive. I noticed not many people left there gear there. A few people hung up older wetsuits but I didnt see many BCDS in the room. - The gal checking us in was very aloof and not real friendly. I don't need butt kissing but she acted put out to be helping us and answering questions. - We didn't know where we were diving until we left on the boat. Even though they have a calendar of dives, they did not follow it (which I do understand if there are current or changing conditions, but everything seemed chill and there were no weather related issues). We were fine with the dives but if someone wanted to do a particular dive they might be disappointed with the scheduling. - The boats get crowded and more than once our tanks were not full and we had to swap them out for full tanks. One time it was 7 divers who were short on air in their tanks and several of us had to swap tanks 2-3 times. - They only book 2 tank dive packages so if you want to to break up your day of diving and don't want to do back to back dives, they charge you 10.00 per tank to break it up. We came to dive and dive we did, but if you are a diver who just likes one or two and have a big surface interval this system may not be the best for you. - On our last two dives we were placed in a group of brand new open water divers. I get it, we have all been there, but our dives were cut very short because of it (one dive ended at 39 minutes) which really sucked. The dm apologized to us privately but we weren't offered any discount or another dive to make up for it. -There is no retail dive shop to speak of, as far as gear to buy or incidentals you may need. No tshirts or any of the usual dive gear stuff us divers love to buy.
