So I made a last minute decision to go through training instead of just doing fun dives. Searching around for a dive outfit that could provide Rescue Diver certification (also requires that you have a current CPR & Emergency First Responder certification) was challenging. Most could do the diver part, but not the CPR/EFR training. Luckily, these guys could do both of the trainings. I had a different instructor for the EFR training (Fabian) and the Rescue Diver training (Ariana). Both instructors were very knowledgeable, provided good training, and answered all my questions. They provided kind but constructive feedback to make sure I understood the task being performed. Although these training courses helped prepare me and certify me, and I did feel prepared, it was without a doubt, that continued practicing will be vital. I rented equipment from them for the training. The wetsuits I tried on were in good shape. The BCDs were also in pretty good shape, but they only had a limited amount of sizes to choose from. I ended up with a mask that was a little too big and leaked while under water. Regardless, those are easy fixes for this dive shop (although costly). Like most of the Cabo San Lucas dive shops, these guys do not own their own boats. Part of my training included a simulated use of first aid gear on the boat. Upon checking the rescue kit, it was found that some of the items were either expired, spent (previously used and not replenished/replaced), or missing. My dive instructor and I were very concerned with this and informed the boat captain who provides dive services to multiple dive shops. This of course, is not Ninja's responsibility. However, they do carry the PADI 5 Star rating...to me, that should mean that I can rely on them to ensure that all the necessary safety protocols, including those on the boat, are provided. I could tell that both my instructors took this lapse very serious. read more

They are excellent about safety and sent me forms to complete including a medical evaluation. Unfortunately, I wasn't approved medically. Had a great "2 Tanks local diving in the Cabo Marine Park" on June 30, 2024. The dive was lead by Joy, who was very helpful, patient, and educational especially for me as a newbie diver. The boat picked us up in front of Casa Dorada Resort where they have a Dojo and give lessons. It was only a 5 minute boat ride to the dive site at Pelican rock. Joy made sure me and my buddy were all ready and briefed and in when went. Joy pointed out the unique fish and other sightings. She took care to make sure we were O.K. throughout the dive. And we had a fun time, with lots to see. When we are back in Cabo I'll definitely book with Dive Ninja's again. read more

I was on the May 17-24, 2024 Mobula Ray Expedition. I have waited until now, a month later, to write a review, thinking the euphoria might have subsided. It has not. This trip gave me exactly what I hoped for, reassurance that despite so much damage by humans, nature will find a way. When I saw the aggregation of the mobula rays (Mobula munkiana) for the first time I was so moved I cried. Despite snotting up my mask, it was definitely a peak experience in my longish life of 72 years. It was a blessing in disguise that my camera failed and I was able to be fully present to the experience. That was only the first day, and we swam with the same hundreds of rays for a couple of hours. On the following days we snorkeled with a small group of the much larger Mobula mobular, (which I swear were showing off for us), more huge aggregations of munkiana.  No company can guarantee that you will see what you could see, but the expertise and intuition of our wonderful wise-beyond-her-years guide, Victoria, and our captain resulted in one magical experience after another. I really cannot say enough about the quality of an expedition with Dive Ninjas. There is not one single suggestion I could make on how any aspect of this could have been improved. Short list of highlights: 1. Dive Ninjas are serious and knowledgeable about conservation and sustainability 2. Max group size is six and they will still do the trip if only 4 3. I felt very "cared for", attended to and safe throughout the expedition, on or off the water. 4. Though I was the only vegan on the trip, the wonderful cooks meticulously cooked separately and deliciously for me. 5. There is very much an egalitarian team atmosphere among the staff. 6. The accommodations are fabulous villas, very private, the whole location rented by Dive Ninjas for their expeditions.  I have such complete trust in Dive Ninjas to create a memorable experience, I am already in the process of booking two more expeditions. I got my open water certification from Dive Ninja last week. It took 2 days from 8am to 5:30pm (not including the e-learning portion). I feel lucky to have had Marco as my instructor. I was also lucky to have been the only student for those two days. Samira was the dive master trainee (DMT), who helped Marco teach me the dive skills for two days. Marco and Samira were very patient and kind. I think it is the European way of teaching (they are from Switzerland). I loved the positive reinforcement and positive feedbacks. They made me want to try harder and do better. Some of the skills I had to learn would have normally been scary and challenging, but I felt totally safe with Marco and Samira by my side. I can't wait to go on more dives in the future. I highly recommend Dive Ninja for anyone considering getting the open water certification in Cabo. read more

Our family had an awesome set of dives both day and night. We are a family of 4 with two boys 14 and 17. We did two dives in the Corridor and one night dive in the Marine Park. Marco and Chelsea did a great job of explaining everything and taking it nice and slow. This was by far our best diving experience. We saw devil rays on the way out and fake killer whales rolling along. During dives in the day we saw morays, mantas and so many types of fish it was crazy. The night dive was great as well with rays swimming around and a huge striped eel hunting. My older boy really enjoyed the lobster. I can't say enough about the entire experience from the book with Samira to the check in and everything was in place. Gear movement to the doc and the boat captain has so much experience diving (48 years in Cabo) he was able to put us right on top of so much and explain the surroundings and what used to be there. Our experience with Dive Ninja Expeditions was really excellent from beginning to end. I had been looking for an operator that was both recommended by PADI and with great reviews on TripAdvisor too, and this is how we found them. We booked through the WeTravel platform ahead of our trip and then exchanged emails with Xochil at Dive Ninja Expeditions which made the process very simple, as she was super responsive and thoughtful. As a result we were ready to get trained the day we arrived in Cabo. The entire staff at Dive Ninja was both extremely friendly and professional. Victoria was our lead instructor and she demonstrated great commitment to our safety and instruction and made it easy to learn. With the assistance of Mercedes and Anika we were in great hands so that when my son and I got certified we felt that we were ready. We then did a couple more dives with Dive Ninja and equally enjoyed our time. We would have done more dives with them, if only I had remembered to book those ahead of time (which sadly I did not, and the week between Christmas and New Year is very busy in Cabo). Found Dive Ninjas on Yelp, read the good reviews so decided to give it a try. Jay was very helpful with booking the type of trip I wanted. I'm advanced open water with Padi, but hadn't gone diving in a few years. We did the refresher practice course in the pool, and then they took me out for two dives in the afternoon. They provided all the equipment, which was great and well taken care of. The dives were incredible and beyond what I expected. The second dive we swam with the sea lions and watched them play underwater. They would swim up super close to you! Will definitely come back again. First...know that I am an avid YELP reader of reviews but not an avid YELP writer of reviews. Our experience with Jay & David during our July 4th 2018 trip to Cabo merited this written review. Warning: lengthy, but hopefully will give you a broad overview of our experience based on our group of very diverse divers (w/Pics). 1) I am a certified, openwater vacation diver with 100+ dives logged....not a lot by many standards, but enough to be knowledgeable. 2) My wife is not a diver....has been on a one-time resort dive a few years ago during our honeymoon to see if she could get past her anxiety about diving. She was anxious @25ft then but enjoyed it enough to want to try one more time...and knowing that I talk about doing it together...she really wanted to give it another go. 3) The other couple who joined us were not divers...but wanted to learn. The DIVE INSTRUCTION experience: I contacted Dive Ninja based on solid reviews before our trip...and Jay (owner / operator) was very responsive. I described the varying levels of divers we had with us and that we were looking for a patient, informed (english-speaking) dive instructor for the other 3 who would allow me to hang out with them for their initial dive instruction. Jay was more than accommodating and described their operation, and the appropriate requirement of a half day of several hours of classroom & pool work...then an afternoon dive (or 2) depending on the diver comfort levels at the 30-40' beginner dive site (Pelican Rock) which has a sandy bottom - ideal to begin a first ocean dive. Everything he described sounded on par with what you would expect. However, in going above/beyond, Jay has partnered with Nautilus Dive Tech in Cabo and utilizes their instruction pool which has a 3' instruction level shelf and then drops to a 15' deep practice pool...an important depth to practice clearing ears, bouyancy/weights etc. for an inexperienced diver. His personal instruction in both the classroom portion & pool work was reflective of his MANY years as both a dive instructor, dive master and as a professional diver - salvage, rescue, etc. He was clear, patient, fun but most importantly he was professional. He was clear to articulate the dangers and rewards of diving as a sport without scaring anyone. My wife did GREAT....she was calm, relaxed, and was very comfortable in the pool. I attribute this to the way in which Jay made her feel reassured. The other couple adjusted to the pool experience with a bit more of a challenge, but eventually were able to pass the pool work and go for the dive. We got fitted with all of the appropriate gear (which was in very good condition). I brought my own mask,fins,snorkel, 5mm suit, but their package pricing was VERY reasonable for the gear the other divers needed (all of above, plus BCs/appropriate 3mm wetsuits for July diving, etc). The DIVE We told Jay we weren't looking for a packed boat of divers with a big ratio of divers-to-dive masters, especially with our 3 inexperienced divers. Jay offered a private charter boat option with HIM, one of his experienced dive masters (Dave), & the captain. And as a bonus, coincidentally he just hired a 3rd dive master & had picked her up at the airport the day before. He'd known her for years in past professional roles in another part of the world. She joined us for her 2nd ever dive in Cabo to get familiar with the area. So, we had a ratio of 3 dive masters to 4 divers! Can't beat that.. Luck of timing, too. The dive boat was clean, and built for diving. His captain has been captaining boats in Cabo for quite some time and was a stellar navigator of the many challenges Cabo water tourism can bring. The service on the boat and the way they prepared the equipment and got the divers suited up, and feeling confident for entry, was great! Once we were ALL in....our couple friends struggled to get down, or clear ears, and ended up aborting their first dive after 15-20 mins of trying. GREAT patience on Jay's part to work with them, and this additional time of working w/them could have created anxiety in my wife about her friends not being able to get settled. Eventually, she & Jay descended and joined Dave, the other dive master and I down at the bottom. We enjoyed a rather murky first dive with marginal sea life in the over-populated beginner dive site/snorkeling site...but it was an important dive. My wife felt comfortable the ENTIRE TIME...at 40' depth. Jay stayed right with her - and that reassuring partnership under water gave her a much-needed confidence that she CAN do this..and WANTS to. While the 3 others bailed on a 2nd dive and opted for snorkeling (my wife was torn & felt she should stay with her friends who were co-chartering the private boat), Jay stayed with them while Dave & the new dive master & I were able to get a 2nd dive in at a 60-70' depth. I HIGHLY recommend Dive Ninjas for your Cabo Dive experience...for ALL diver levels! read more

Then when the first dives were a little coder then expected, allowed us to adjust our schedule and provide additional wetsuits to compensate for the cold. I had one dive governed by Murphy's law, "o" ring issue and after failed attempts to fix, Donna gave me her tank and used the original! I have learned so much and I enjoyed every single moment. The Divemaster program is super unique because besides learning the normal PADI Divemaster Program, Dive Ninja added workshops about UW photo, working in remote areas, sustainability and more. In January, I went on expedition organized by dive ninja and GtS. Before departure, I went on a local dive with Donna from Dive Ninja. I had a great time diving in Cabo. Donna is a fabulous guide and I felt all dialed in & ready for my Socorro dives. The Socorro experience was also great. The educational presentations about the area & creatures added local context and information and mode the diving much more enjoyable. Highly recommended. Looking forwarded to future Cabo dives and trips with Jay and team. With the worldwide lockdown, Dive Ninjas have found ways to keep divers connected with each other and the water. We had a fabulous time on the Gentle Giants tour with Donna as guide, along with two other guests. The hotel in Cabo was intimate, well kept, and convenient to walk around the city, including to the boat dock. The boat captains and local guides were all excellent. We had plenty of time in each location to find whales and get close, always following the local rules. Swimming with the whale sharks was truly amazing - the juveniles are so big! It was also loads of fun to swim with the playful sea lion pups. The side trip to the mountains to see cave painting was fun and unexpected. It was interesting to see the nearby ranch and talk to the rancher. Donna also knew great places to eat in every town. Never had any dietary problems. This was my best trip to Mexico by a long shot. I love that Dive Ninja supports the local economy with eco-tourism. Looking forward to some day going on another trip with Dive Ninja Expeditions! read more

I came to Cabo with family and friends for a week. While here I got in touch Jay and he gave me all the details I needed to dive with Dive Ninja Expeditions!!! It was my first time diving on vacation since I've been certified so I was VERY nervous about a possible sketchy experience. NOT HERE!!! Jay took his time messaging me and explained to me in depth *pun intended* everything I wanted to know. This really help put my nervous mind at ease. He saved a spot for me on a day I had chosen and when I showed up everything went well. He started with explaining how the day would go, again. He had me fill out the standard paperwork and he asked to see my PADI Cert card. Asked about my experience. All the stuff that protects the shop and myself in reality. Very professional. The employees were all friendly and all smiles. I got Edgar as my guide. He was great! Constantly checked on me but didn't baby me. He said we can go down to the max depth you're allowed with your cert. Or stay shallow and to let him know what I wanted. He was sure to point out tons of things I would have missed otherwise, like an Eel. Edgar and the crew were all very helpful. My family and I needed a COVID break and enjoy scuba diving. It was easy communicating with Donna, Ellen and Mariana to set up the trip. We spent one day diving in the bay, two days diving in Cabo Pulmo, a day I received one on one instruction with diving with Jay Clue, the original dive ninja, followed by a day trip to La Reina for some spectaculat diving. My family and I enjoyed all of the excursions thoroughly! My son is 13 and daughter 11 and they were able to cater to all needs. Special shout out to Ellen who went the extra mile for us really making sure all needs were met. I highly recommend a visit to Cabo Pulmo and La Reina and you will get to really appreciate the variety of underwater terrain and fish life there.
