If you're looking for a local snorkeling or whale watch when it's in season (January-March, usually), you have a lot of options in Cabo San Lucas. Each company is falling over itself to take people out as evidenced by the solicitation you get anywhere near the marina or beach. It's insanely competitive and what you get can vary greatly - many companies will crowd dozens of people onto larger boats, luring them with a few beers or music to twerk to and give you an impersonal and potentially messy experience. I inquired with PuraBaja based on the Yelp reviews (amongst a number of other companies). One of the owners, Lorena, was extremely responsive via text message. Very soon we had a local snorkeling tour booked for 2 people to Pelican Rock and the beautiful nearby rock formations including El Arco. Victor, the other owner, was waiting for us when we rocked up at 9:30am for our trip. No one else joined us so it became a private tour that made for a very pleasant surprise. He was charming and patient with us and made sure we had a really comfortable and fun experience on the water. Captain Pablo manned the boat and Victor joined us in the water. We loved our experience with this small, locally-owned tour company so much we wound up booking 2 different trips with them. We are sending other friends to book with PuraBaja and are looking forward to seeing them again. Pro-tip: to find their booth, get dropped off by the Dolphin Center.

If you're going to Cabo, you MUST book with this company! My boyfriend and I were wandering the marina, bewildered and a little irritated from the hot sun and constant salespeople that were waving flyers in our faces. I'm generally pretty wary of people trying to sell us stuff, but Captain Pablo from PuraBaja Tours just came up to us, told us it was a slow day for him, and told us he could give us a discount and basically our own boat ride. He even showed us the brochure to show us what a great deal we were getting hahaha! It was such a great experience. Pablo gave us all the details on the Lover's Beach and the Arch, and he barked at the famous seals (which was hilarious). He even took us out further than the other boats, showing us how strong the waves and currents were just across the ocean. Whenever I wanted a photo, he would hop to the occasion and was more than happy to stop the boat in front of the arch and help us take photos. He was a great captain - accommodating and so fun to be with! It was definitely by chance that we were able to just bump into Captain Pablo, but he made our last day in Cabo AMAZING. I will definitely be telling my friends about this company and hopefully, you'll try them out too!!

Victor, Lorena, and the rest of the PuraBaja team are amazing! We've been doing excursions with them for many, many years and everything always goes smoothly. Booking is easy, prices are fair, and everyone involved is knowledgeable, professional, and fun. They give you honest reviews of what tours are the best depending on when you're visiting, and we've loved it all - snorkeling, scuba, whale watching, and more!

Awesome dive!!! Can't wait to do it again. Thank you so much for taking such great care of us and making our dive so fun and easy for all levels of divers.

What an awesome company to dive with. Victor and Lorena take great care of their customers with personal attention. It was just me and victor making bubbles while my wife snorkeled above us. The equipment was in good condition as were the wet suits. They were very knowledgeable about the area and took me on a great dive. Support local businesses and schedule your scuba or snorkeling trip with Victor and Lorena. You won't be disappointed.

We were on vacation with carnival cruise lines and decided to wait until we got to shore to book an excursion. As soon as we got off the boat we were bombarded with several vendors trying to sell us many excursions. At one point Victor approached us and sold us on what he was offering. He met and exceeded all of our expectations. We started out by being dropped off at a real cool beach for some shopping and fun in the sun. Victor's crew picked us up as promised an hour and a half later and took us on a 45 minute tour of the many rock formations including the Arch, Lovers Beach, and Pelican Rock. We truly had a blast. The guides were knowledgeable and answered all our questions. They even took pictures for us. When we returned we spoke to Victor about booking a fishing trip for the following day. Once again a great price for an amazing experience. Victor set us up with the perfect boat to catch fish in complete with fighting chairs. The captain and first mate did everything they could to help us catch as many fish as we wanted. We did end up catching two dolphin fish and had an amazing fight with a Marlin. Truly the best fishing trip EVER! Victor set us up with someone who could clean our fish and get us to a restaurant to have our catch cooked so we could enjoy the fruits of our labor for the day. Truly one of the most amazing experiences we have ever had as a family. If we ever return to Cabo we would definitely book any and all excursions with Victor in the future. Thank you Victor and team! You helped make our vacation one to remember!

I went scuba diving with Lorena and PuraBaja Tours and it was a wonderful, friendly experience! It had been a while since my last dive and I was a bit nervous but Lorena patiently went over everything. She prepared me for where to look, what creatures to look out for, was very caring and spoke English very well. We saw baby sharks, octopi, a ray, and a lot of different kinds of fish off of Pelican Rock! After the dive we toured around the Arch, the pacific window, lovers beach and divorce beach. The staff were all very warm and welcoming! They helped me get back to my resort and dropped me off closer to my bus stop. They are located at Dock #2 in Cabo San Lucas at Window B-14. They had all the equipment and it was all clean and in good condition. We went out on a small clean boat with a nice captain. The prices were good and I would definitely dive with them again. They communicate more on facebook and some more of their reviews are there. https://www.facebook.com/PuraBaja.Tours2015/

So I made a last minute decision to go through training instead of just doing fun dives. Searching…read morearound for a dive outfit that could provide Rescue Diver certification (also requires that you have a current CPR & Emergency First Responder certification) was challenging. Most could do the diver part, but not the CPR/EFR training. Luckily, these guys could do both of the trainings. I had a different instructor for the EFR training (Fabian) and the Rescue Diver training (Ariana). Both instructors were very knowledgeable, provided good training, and answered all my questions. They provided kind but constructive feedback to make sure I understood the task being performed. Although these training courses helped prepare me and certify me, and I did feel prepared, it was without a doubt, that continued practicing will be vital. I rented equipment from them for the training. The wetsuits I tried on were in good shape. The BCDs were also in pretty good shape, but they only had a limited amount of sizes to choose from. I ended up with a mask that was a little too big and leaked while under water. Regardless, those are easy fixes for this dive shop (although costly). Like most of the Cabo San Lucas dive shops, these guys do not own their own boats. Part of my training included a simulated use of first aid gear on the boat. Upon checking the rescue kit, it was found that some of the items were either expired, spent (previously used and not replenished/replaced), or missing. My dive instructor and I were very concerned with this and informed the boat captain who provides dive services to multiple dive shops. This of course, is not Ninja's responsibility. However, they do carry the PADI 5 Star rating...to me, that should mean that I can rely on them to ensure that all the necessary safety protocols, including those on the boat, are provided. I could tell that both my instructors took this lapse very serious.

The company Cabo Adventures is a total scam and preys on vulnerable families. I will NEVER use them again for any other activity despite us coming to Cabo every year. I encourage every one from Yelp not to use them as well. Each ticket cost over $200 per person to be part of a group dolphin experience. This is not even private. A child MUST be accompanied by an adult so that forces more people to join. You think after spending over $800 for 4 people they would treat us like royalty right? WRONG. They do not mention any photo pricing online because they don't want to scare you away before you purchase your tickets. But let me tell you, it's an all or nothing photo package (you cannot pick a few or buy per picture) and it was over $500!!!!!! The b*tch working at the photo center must get off on making kids cry because when you call her out on the ridiculous prices, she shuts off the computer, takes her booklet, and says "ok good bye, there's the door". They do not negotiate at all because they know you have no other option. It's truly heartless. How insulting after we just spent $800 just on the tickets for a 30 min SHARED experience. They allow observers who are not doing the dolphin experience but they conveniently put them far away from where the dolphins are so it's impossible for them to take any pictures or video. Note: females you are NOT allowed to have anything in your hair such as hair ties or clips which there is no mention online or even when you check in. They don't give a reason why and it really sucked because the day we went it was super windy and our hair went everywhere ruining a lot of the photos plus making it hard to see in the water with hair in your face. My poor daughter had to take out her cute braids :/ Many other great and reasonable experiences. Go elsewhere and do NOT support Cabo adventures. Shame on you guys. UPDATE: I'd like to respond to the manager Lorena who tries to justify these ridiculous prices instead of listening to her customers' feedbacks and making adjustments. No, it's not optional to get the photos because what's the point of doing this experience if you do not have pictures to keep as memories? Yes, I understand there's safety regulations about not having cameras with us in the pool but forcing bystanders not in the pool to be over 100 ft away to take pictures which will be blurring, you leave us no choice but to purchase the photos. Nobody is asking for free photos but charging $500 is a scam. Even Disneyland only charges $80 for unlimited photos for a whole week! And respect gets respect. After spending over $800, YOUR employee is the one who was disrespectful to me first with her attitude about the price and not even trying to talk to your supervisor or work something out with me. Clearly, you only care about profit, not about customers leaving happy or having a good experience.

She arranged a two day trip for us to see the grey whales with their babies in the "Santuario de la Ballena Gris", and planned another day for us to swim with the whale sharks. She planned every detail. Communication was perfect and she is organized and prepared. A true professional, she was also so flexible about allowing us to decide how to spend our time, giving us plenty of ideas, and switching things around when we wanted to. She took care of all the transportation, permits, snacks and meals, boats and wonderful captains, wetsuits, equipment, Spanish translation, and lodging near the grey whale sanctuary. We learned so much from her and always felt safe and cared for. We were fortunate enough to observe caracaras, countless grey whales feeding and training their babies to prepare for their long migration, and herons and seabirds on our trip to the reserve. She had a long drive, but the experience was phenomenal. Then we had planned to see the whale sharks, planning the entire trip around the peak time for whale shark viewing -- but on the day of our trip, the whale shark refuge was closed (I believe because the previous winds had encouraged them to move 60 miles away to feed, something that was unprecedented). Although we expect they'll be back soon, we had to decide what to do with our last day with Karen. She had so many fantastic ideas and was able to pivot her plans, preparation, boat and captain to a custom-designed trip for us. She drove us to La Paz with a plan to take us out to swim with the sea lions at Espiritu Santo, part of a UNESCO world heritage site. But before we got to the snorkeling site, we were astonished to have two juvenile humpbacks repeatedly breaching out of the water in front of us. We were the only boat around and paused to peacefully observe their playful antics so close to us. We also got to see blue footed boobies and frigatebirds with their red breasts on our way to the site. Then to the sea lions. The pups were around 4 months old and many of their mothers were off fishing, so the pups hopped in the water with us to play as we snorkeled over the beautiful reef. Karen pointed out so much while we snorkeled together. It was an experience of a lifetime and we felt like we had so much time enjoying the pups; other boats were there but Karen guided us to an area where we felt like we could really enjoy the pups in solitude. They tugged on my fins and jumped on my back more than once. Back on the boat and on our way to our next stop, we paused to enjoy the playful dolphins checking us out. Peaceful and touching experience. Our final stop that day was Balandra Beach. We walked from the boat in the shallow clear turquoise water all the way to the sandy beach and enjoyed solitude at the beach, listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. When we returned to the boat, they had prepared a delicious fresh ceviche lunch that the captain had prepared. It was a perfect three days and we plan to return again to see the whale sharks! I cannot see any reason to enjoy this area with anyone else and highly recommend it. Definitely take some time from your Cabo or La Paz vacation to explore with Karen.

My wife and I took part in a baby turtle release, and a few whale watch trips with the deal on multiple whale watch trips. They are easy to book activities online or by phone. Our 1st activity the baby sea turtle release. We took a bus ride up the Pacific Ocean coast to the beach for release. The marine biologist in charge of project gave a presentation on the various turtle species, how they lay the eggs. Maria, a marine biologist with Cabo Trek, was our host with the company for the trip. She also helped with any questions, and assist the slowest turtles with a lift into the water after a while before the birds showed up. We went on a few whale watch trips the next 2 days. CaboTrek uses small boats with cover that can carry up to about 12 passengers. There is a marine biologist to answer any questions and take pictures. The 1st day was a very unique experience in that we had 2 whales decide to have curiosity fun with our boat and 2 others in putting on a show. These 2 whales spy hopped, fin slapped the water, tail slapped the water, full breach jumps, and swim under the boats several times. The 2nd day we saw momma and a baby humpback whale. The marine biologist estimated the baby to be about 2 or 3 weeks old. The baby decided to showoff for mom in jumping part way out of the water. This was a wonderful unusual experience to see. In the office Bee is great to work with in booking activities and any issues. The marine biologist are Andrea, Adrian, and Maria. They are all very knowledgeable about the ocean wildlife and nice. With small whale watch groups we got a more personable experience. The boat captains Adrian and Freddie are great in getting the boats around crowd at the Arch, and working around to find the whales for a wonderful whale watch trip. We will be returning in the future for more fun wonderful experiences.
