She hadn't been diving in a while and I knew I needed to practice skills like air sharing that I hadn't done in years, so we signed up for a two hour evening class. Mike, the owner/instructor did a great job and came off as very competent while still keeping things relaxed. The rental equipment was in good shape and seemed much newer and better taken care of than most of the rental gear I've used in the past. I'd unhesitatingly recommend Aqua Ventures for someone who wants to learn to dive or needs to update their skills.

On both occasions Eastern Watersports had the items, at a fair price (okay the price for those that arrived today were unfairly low, so my cost was mainly the shipping), and sent them to me directly. We live all the way across the country but even with ground shipping they got here in a week. I am very pleased with the fins, and with the fact that they arrived with usable straps attached. Now I always look on their site first if I am seeking a replacement piece of dive gear that I cannot find or cannot afford at my local shop. I suggested he call them because I had such a positive experience and then realized I have only been sharing that with friends and family instead of in formal review. I was lucky enough to be Thor's solo student during my sessions and he did everything possible to make me comfortable. All of the skills were very personalized and he is very experienced and knowledgeable. Even more important, he was an excellent teacher. He was very patient and was quick to repeat skills that I misunderstood or was struggling with. The scuba world is very male dominated, but I was never the only female in the pool nor was I ever made to feel less capable than the male students doing a refresher course. Thor made the skills fun and he was meticulous about making sure I understood and could safely execute each one. I cannot recommend the shop or Thor enough to anyone starting out, but especially to women entering the water.
