I REALLY want to like Divina. Like really really. Two weekends back, I popped in as a walk-in after my morning run. I was attended to right away and my nails were nearly perfect. The manicure was done carefully, but quickly, and it lasted me the entire week (which never happens). I was so happy that I made an appointment, on the spot, for the following Friday to return for the works: manicure, pedicure and eyebrow threading. I came in a few minutes early for my Friday appointment and when I came in was told that there was someone ahead of me (not started) and I reminded them I had an appointment. One of the techs reluctantly started a pedicure soak for me and told the young lady that was a walk in they could not attend to her. From when I was seated, to when the nail technician finished with another client and started on me was 25 minutes WITH AN APPOINTMENT. They had one nail tech working that day and several eyebrow and facial technicians that just sat there. I was not even offered a water or anything for the inconvenience. The technician was nice, and definitely just doing her job, so I don't blame her, but she was incredibly quick and made no effort to engage with me. She clearly wanted to get home and zoomed off immediately after she finished the last coat. The manicure looks good, so I think her work was done well. Its not the employees fault, but this salon is poorly run. They are understaffed and do not cater to clients. They were not accommodating or honest about the timing of my appointment. they made very little effort to rectify their mistake of missing my appointment, or give me a chance to leave/tell me they simply couldn't honor my appointment. I appreciate honestly and consideration and the complete waste of time was not appreciated. read more

I would genuinely give zero if I could. Not because of the staff, who were perfectly nice, but because of the owner. I got several services (pedicure, eyebrow, upper lip, and gel manicure). This took over 2 hours total which is a bit excessive but nothing I would have complained over. When my gel manicure was complete the woman doing my nails herself said that it wasn't up to her standards and offered to soak it off. After being there for 2 hours I did not have the time as I had a commitment I was already late to. I offered several solutions to the manager. Including paying the cost of the gel manicure on a gift card so I could come and get it fixed later and he said "I don't see what's wrong with them." Please see pictures attached and decide for yourself if anything was wrong with them. He then quite literally screamed at me to pay and get out and never come back, as he doesn't want customers like me. There was another woman in the salon who said to me "you're right, but just don't even fight it" and at this point I was noticeably upset and started near crying (which I am very embarrassed about but when a man you do not know is screaming at you to "GET OUT" it gets a bit overwhelming. After this back and forth for nearing 5-10 minutes he screamed at me to get out one final time and told me he would charge me for the pedi, upper lip, and eyebrows which I clearly was already going to pay for. I still tipped 20% but after being verbally degraded for several minutes because I didn't not want to pay for a service that was performed incorrectly, I needed to share that this place is run but unprofessional jerks EDIT - your response saying I did not let you soak off my manicure is untrue. you offered this and I said I did not have time, which I did not. This takes 10 minutes. I eventually said fine, you can soak it off which is when you said "fine, get out of here, I never want to see you again." I spoke rudely to you when I left as you had screamed in my face and accused me of being a criminal. I want to reiterate that YOU raised your voice at me. For an extended period of time. You walked into the store and said you "knew people like me" without even first looking at my nails and why I asked to speak to you in the first place. I as a customer asked you to stop speaking to me that way several times before I became upset. I have gotten my eyebrows done from this salon for 2 years without speaking to you. Do not accuse strangers of being criminals upon meeting them, and they will not be upset with you. If you are referring to loyal customers, I am one of them. I will be happy to provide credit card statements going back the last few years as proof since you have already accused me of lying twice. I have also updated to include the nails that have completely peeled off. It could not be any clearer that no one wanted to swindle a free service out of you. The service looks horrible. Why would I want this at all, let alone for free? Lastly, if it would have been so quick and easy to fix, why didn't she do it in the first place? Why did she have a technician try to help, be unsuccessful, and then at that point decide I would be charged full price? And if you're agreeing now that they don't look right, why did you say to my face that there was nothing wrong with them? Not one single point you made makes sense. read more

Walked past this place on my way home the other night. So I stopped to look in the window because I know they opened a few weeks ago. Wow absolutely every person working (about 8 of them) came up to the window and stared out at me. Reminded me of when you go to a dog pound and all the dogs start jumping up and down and barking. I kid you not So I felt bad and walked in. I decided to get a french pedicure and then changed my mind. One of the young girls kept pressuring me that I HAD to get the French. "Are you sure?" ... 5 mins later... "We can do the French for you!" Woah calm down gf... The customer is always right. Stop pressuring me. The girl doing my pedicure was very quiet and did most of it w/rubber gloves on. (I've always found that to be weird but I know some salons are about that) What do I look like I have a flesh eating disease? Then I sat under the drier, about 10 minutes later. The girl who kept pressing me to get a French came over sprayed my feet w/a quick dry solution and told me I was done. I'm like "no I'm not, I'm going to sit here". Seriously I go to my regular salon a few times a month, nails don't dry in 10 mins. Don't know what this girl was on... Then she came back and was pressuring me to leave. I really don't get this place... They stand at the front door begging you to come in, then rush you through your service. And my pedicure was jus ok, it was nicked when I went home. Not sure if it was the girl who did a lousy paint job or me being rushed out of this place They offer a lot of specials but the lack of service they provided is uncalled for. I originally came to this place because I was going to an event. I badly needed a manicure and pedicure. I had a pretty tight schedule but decided to come in here anyway because I literally looked into the window and saw that there was no one there. Score!! I really did not know what to expect but everything totally worked out for me. I walked in and the pampering began. A few moments later more people started coming in. I just made it before it started to get busy. Maria did a great job she really asked me what I wanted and carefully took care of business. I had such a great experience that a couple of weeks later I went back to get my eyebrows done. Before I let anyone do my eyebrows I look at the technicians eyebrows first. If her's do not look good I would never let her do mine. Her expectations of what looks good would not be in sync to what I want. I was so glad the technician had perfectly manicured eyebrows so I let her do mine. She did a fantastic job. The staff is very friendly and this place is now on my to go list. read more

I asked her to re-look at my foot to make sure the polish was completely off of my nails and the cuticles were properly cut. I stopped by here last month as I was working around the corner. I usually get my brows done at one particular salon on Jamaica Ave. I decided to give a new place a try. The lady who did my brows her name is Mani. She asked what happened to my brows they are messed up. The comment was not necessary as she should know people get brows done because THEY NEED to be done. I said I clean them myself in between getting them done and have a place I got to but decided to give them a try. I really don't want to leave a 2 star rating for this place but I have to. I walked in on a Friday afternoon around 115 PM and didn't finish until a little after 3 and that's bazar if your only doing gel manicure.. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU WANT TO SOAK OFF YOUR ACRYLICS!!! It took the lady almost a hour and a half to remove them . Not sure if they mix there acetone with something else because normally when I soak off my acrylics it doesn't take more then 15 min so I didn't understand why there acetone wasn't doing the job . After that when the lady noticed that the acetone wasn't working she decides to take a metro card and try to chip it out . I really didn't want her to do that but I didn't wanna say anything . She then started filing my nails so hard that my whole enter hands is hurting so bad . My cuticles are so damaged and it hurts cause I have a cut in every finger . I really wanted to like this place but , after such a horrible experience I'm still willing to back only for maybe a gel mani and maybe a pedi . read more

This place, for me, has taken a turn for the worse. I came in today to get a pedicure and gel manicure. I should have known from the moment I sat down it was going the be bad. The technician who was going to take care of me had a terrible, angry scowl on her face, and proceeded to speak to the other techs in an angry tone. I don't care if you speak another language, but if I am paying you to take care of me, speak to me and actually take care of me, please. She did not ask me if I wanted my nails cut. She did not ask what shape I wanted my nails. She literally clipped my toe nails, fast, very low, and was extremely rough (like I had caused her to be angry) that I actually yelped in pain and pulled my foot away. Not once - but twice. The second time I actually yelled out loud "NOPE!" and got off my chair, put on my flip flops, and left. I am a Customer Communications Director with my company. This was, by far, one of the worst service experiences I have ever had and I will never look at this business the same way. read more

This is by far the BEST waxing place I've ever been to. The owner did mine, she didn't have to go over the same spot more than once at all! Ladies you know how awful that is when they do that to you she was super gentle and they don't double dip which is awesome. She also was very thorough about making sure the wax was put on in the correct direction etc. ALSO, I have tried threading 3 times and swore I never would again, HOWEVER, she talked me into it, and just as promise it was practically painless! Warning: This is mainly about the manicure/pedicure with a small review about threading. This is my joint- hands down this is the salon I am feelin' the most. I love the owners! Such sweet people and the girls that do my manicure/pedicures are always gracious, polite and professional. The atmosphere here is clean and calming. And they are very clean- washing up the pedicure station after working there, using gloves and I've never seen any unusual hygienic practices here. Moreover there is no one hassling me, or giving me 'tude. If you guys have been following these reviews you know how much I abhor attitude at these nail salon joints. My only issue, and alas it is an issue of you are a nail freak like me, is the lack of colors. I tend to always bring my own nail polishes with me but here I feel its an extra need since there is a limited selection of Essie/OPI polishes. If you aren't a nail polish fiend like yours truly then it should be fine but otherwise that's an issue for me. I must say I've never had a bad experience, and this place is top notch in my book. Also the prices are a-ok; Manicure/Pedicure $22 and a Manicure is $8. Pretty good in my book! read more

Just tried Divina for the first time today. I walked in (no appointment) for a facial wax. The place was very clean and the aesthetician was pleasant and professional. They took me right away and did a great job with the waxing. Including using threading to cleanup stragglers. I was very satisfied with the services, and the price was reasonable. Only reason for leaving off the 5th star is the privacy issue. Facial waxing is done right out front in full view of the manicure customers and the foot traffic on Queens Blvd. Not a huge deal, but I'm on the bashful side and accustomed to private rooms or areas for waxing, even just facial stuff. I noticed the area for body waxing is just behind a curtain, and for a wuss like me is definitely not private enough. But other than that, it was a great experience and I will definitely be back. read more

I know change is one of the most difficult adjustments among humans beings. That's why I began to change my beauty salon location in small doses and now I'm a loyal Divina customer. I first started with eyebrow threading and it doesn't matter who does it, they always come out the way I want them to; which is thick and with my natural shape. I just ask them to clean my eyebrows and not to touch the thickness and they always come out perfect. I used to pay double in the city and I would always leave regretting getting my brows done! Now my eyebrows and eyelashes are my pride. I followed with trusting them with my upper lip, my lower leg, bikini line and finally manicure + pedicure. Now all I do is walk 2 blocks from my apartment in comfortable clothes and sandals and get all done in one place for half the price of Manhattan and much better service and quality. read more

I didn't know that I would be so disappointed. While I may understand that new employees get a pass, I'm frankly appalled at the carelessness and the lack of professionalism. Strike one was when the worker did not close the door as I was getting ready for a Brazilian. I had to ask her to close it. Strike 2 was when she was using her hand to assist her more with steadying some delicate areas. Strike 3 was when the "boss" came in when I wasn't fully clothed to check in on things. In addition to this carelessness, I told the lady that I had to be somewhere by 6:30. And even though she said the process wouldn't take long. It did. I'm sorry but I'm not going there again. If you don't know how to do something, ask someone else to do it. Plain and simple. My advice is for "the boss" to provide training sessions. read more

This salon is a total gem! The prices are really reasonable, and the overall quality is really high. Some of the reviewers haven't been satisfied with the threading, but I told the attendant when I came in that I didn't want my eyebrows to be too thin, and she did a beautiful job. The threading was painless, and my eyebrows are the best shape they've ever been. I've since gone back and gotten a massage from the same person (Ambika). I was really sore from a combination of hiking and capoeira the previous week, and the massage was fantastic. (To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect since massage isn't really listed as one of their primary services) They're a great neighborhood spa/salon. (Overall, the quality of salon/spa services in NY has been incredibly high in my experience, and these guys are no exception). I would totally recommend them, and I'll probably try their waxing/nail services also. read more

I just moved around here and I was looking for a new eyebrow place. I have trust issues when it comes to my brows, but I decided to bite the bullet and came in to this place hoping it'd be my new brow spot. The lady who did my brows didn't listen to ANY THING I said at all, I specifically told her not to take any hairs out of a specific part of my brow because I was growing that part back, and I asked her about 10 times if she understood what I meant and she said yes, HOWEVER, she still threaded my brows how SHE wanted to!!! I also told her I don't like thin brows, so to just do a little clean up, however she was rough and kept forcing it. Her name began with an "S" I think , and she did not even APOLOGIZE after !!!!! Decided to give this place another chance. This is the 4th and last time I will come to this nail salon. The lady that was doing my manicure was nice. Unfortunately, she didn't know how to follow a customers request. I asked her to trim my nails a little bit and she ended up cutting them all off. I felt rushed and irritated. As she began to cut my cuticles I noticed she was just cutting the air! The cuticle cutter was nowhere near my nail!! I am very picky with how I like my manicure done and this was a disaster. I brought my own base and topcoat. She began applying the base coat with no effort. The nail polish was on my skin and she didn't care to wipe the excess off. My friend and I decided to get our nails done at Divina. We both came out with fabulous nails. The salon was very clean, the instruments hygienic, and the girls were very courteous and accommodating. My girl did an awesome job pumicing the bottom of my feet. My only suggestion to them would be to offer a vaster array of colors. I've spent the past few months being loyal to another threading salon in Sunnyside on Greenpoint Ave. That is, until they ruined my eyebrows, leaving me to find another salon. For weeks, I had to let my brows grow out just to be able to start over. I was pretty anxious to let anyone near my brows to be honest lol. I came in a few minutes after they opened on a Thursday. I was greeted by a nice girl named Jothi (sp?) who did my brows. I don't even know how she brought my brows back to life, I thought they were a gonner! She was quick, pleasant, and very good! My eyebrows were even and she consulted with me before she finished so I could request any tweaks if I wanted. For $6 before tip, it's a great deal! Also, I think it's important to note that they have very good thread! Their thread is sharper and really gets the hairs out without extra pulling. I usually leave threading salons with angry red eyebrows for at least an hour or 2! Not here! I was in and out in 10 minutes and went straight to class :) Ask for Jothi, she's great! read more

A really great threading spot that is owned and operated by a great threader. I used to go to a busy, midtown threading location that churned women in during their lunchbreaks w zero customer service. I noticed each time I went to the salon, women were requesting "Meena" to do their eyebrows, so i began to as well. Meena is an experienced, thorough eyebrow threader and I was THRILLED to discover she opened up her own shop in Sunnyside. I've had my eyebrows done by both Meena and another young technician and both times they were thoughtful and considerate of my aesthetic preferences. First of all I need to say the staff here is extremely friendly and the place is very clean, hygienic, and fresh. I visited the salon on a weekend and thought that I would be waiting a long time. However, despite 3 other customers being in line ahead of me my wait was only 10 minutes! I came here to get my eyebrows threaded and it was one of most cleanest, hygienic, quick, and painless threading experiences I've ever had. My threading session lasted about 5 minutes and the results were beautiful. The lady shaped my eyebrows very nicely and I received a ton of compliments on them. An added bonus is that the moisturizer they apply onto my eyebrows after threading left my skin feeling very smooth and for the first time I did not have any redness or swelling. All this for getting your eyebrows done for $4.00!! I will definitely be going back here regularly. read more
