I've driven by this place probably thousands of times since they open 3 years ago. It's on my way in to and from work. I take Southfield road pretty much every day. It caught my eye when it first opened up as I'm a huge fan of thai massage and still remember some of my best massages that I received were all in Thailand. I realize the cost of an hour massage here is about three times more than I would've paid in Thailand though. It's was so dark in the lobby, I thought that Thai herbal massage was closed even though I had an appointment tonight. Someone did come out and to the desk and told me that my therapist would be coming out. She did a minute or so later. No paperwork here. This woman took me to a room, it's much bigger than I would have thought. She asked if I knew what I needed to do and I said yes. I confirmed that she wanted me face down and she said yes. She told me there's a hook on the back of the door for my jacket. She exited and I got ready for my massage. Ka, my massage therapist came and knocked on my room to ask if I was ready. I told her I was. She came in right at the start of my appointment time, nice. Ka put a hot cloth on feet, used it to rub and clean my feet, felt good. She later used other hot cloths for my shoulder, upper chest, arms, legs and back area. Partly for a quick cleaning from the oils and to give a last bit of soothing massage. It felt really comforting and warm and calming. Ka's pressure was great, she mixed up her pressure too, from light touches to much deeper massage work. She would use her fingers, legs, knees, heel of her palm, elbows and knuckles. She stretched me out well too. She was barefooted so she could easily and nimbly move around the bed and work around and sometimes kneeling on top of my legs or back. Don't be worried but this is normal for a Thai massage. Also, they do some glute (yes, your bum) work so be sure to let the therapist know any areas you don't want massaged at all, mine is the head. Not cool with anyone touching my head with greasy fingers and let Ka know, she stayed away from my head the whole hour. This is probably one of the best deep tissue massages I've had outside of Thailand, that's sad, but so true. I will definitely be back. This was truly a deep tissue massage and exactly what I wanted. The stretching was great too. I already wanted to have another massage tomorrow. I was thinking how great it would be to get a massage from Ka every week. That would be so great. Just a follow-up, had a great and deep sleep after my massage last night. I was still so well relaxed by bedtime that I feel asleep. I don't usually sleep through the night normally at all.

It looked good so I bought the Groupons for multiple massage sessions. Next I tried to set up appointments for my wife and me but I had some questions. We really liked the previous place we used to go every month and only stopped because it was a long drive so I was looking for a new place that was closer. I wanted to talk to someone because I had a number of questions but it seemed I could only communicate by text or email. I was referred to a third party website to set up appointments but the dates and times were very limited, there was nobody I could talk to (think Microsoft, Amazon, Groupon, etc), and it was not very user friendly, especially for trying to get appointments for two of us at the same time. I later found out that there is only one therapist. This was more involved than I wanted to deal with so I sent this information to Groupon and requested a refund which they agreed to do. I must add, as I said initially, since we were not able to schedule appointments that would fit our preferred times (all were in the middle of the day in the middle of the week), we never received any massage services. There are not any Yelp reviews to go by but the reviews on Groupon were mostly very positive. We may have to just drive to our previous place which was always easy to deal with, including by phone, and their massage services were excellent as well.

Summer gave an incredible massage, she was attentive and made sure to check the pressure along the way. The hot rocks added an additional comfort. The space is in an unassuming office building, rooms were clean, the massage bed was heated, the music calming. She paid attention to details from my call and had a happy birthday sign + treats when I walked in! Building: The Ashiatsu Room is located down a hallway at the back of the "strip center" type mall. It's a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. You do not have to worry about being disturbed, or disrupted by your surroundings. Therapist: Tina is very good and caring. She takes time, if this is your first time, to explain how everything is going to work. She is very good at listening to where your problem areas are. Massage: This is great for deep tissue, and I recommend the 90 minutes. This is not the basic Asian lady walking back and forth over your back and hurting you (and possibly damaging you). Tina is very mindful of the pressure, and uses bars to hold herself up to gauge the correct pressure. She also works from many different angles including sitting, while continuing to use her feet. She does occasionally use her hands as well, but his is 90% feet. If you haven't had this type of massage, I highly recommend it... and make sure you use someone who is well trained and educated like Tina. 5 STARS

I've had a number of massages in my lifetime and I have to say that this was one of the best massages I've ever had. For me, I prefer a lot of pressure. Most places say deep tissue and they are light. They tend to be Swedish massages but a different massage routine. This was not that way at all. Brianna reads the intake information you provide and she talks to your throughout the session to make sure pressure is good and that she's addressing the areas of concern. I discussed a lot of where the focus areas were and pointed out specific areas and she worked on them. I have neck, shoulder and lower back pain that I've had my whole life. I walked in with neck and shoulder pain and walked out feeling brand new. That never happens. Most of the time I walk out of the massage thinking, "That was ok... I wish I wouldn't have spent that much money though." I walked out of Wholistic wishing I had more than 20 dollars to give as a tip. I actually had singles too and just handed all the money to Brianna. Take my money girl you deserve it! Lol My insurance covers massages with chiropractic appointments but I don't even care. She focuses on your sore/problem areas and can make the massage relaxing or use more pressure and get out whatever knots you may have. I have had multiple appointments with her and her rates are very reasonable and fair. I will definitely be making additional appointments with her in the future!
