I had a similar experience to other reviewers. It's been more than 1 year since we filed a divorce, but I am still not completely over about how it went although our case was as simple as it could be. No kids or property. I would like to share some of the most memorable events. So memorable that I saw other clients names and made me worried my personal information was not protected. - There was some mixed up with filing. We got two case numbers and one of them was filed under our names, but the documents attached to the case was for another couple. She blamed the system change of the court. - I asked for the progress update since our case was so delayed. She responded with a photo taken by her phone, in which was her blurry computer screen showing similar name to mine, but not the same. - We got a letter from the court saying they were confused about who was getting a divorce. Turned out our divorce paper had someone else's name and address listed in one spot instead of my ex's. So total I learned 5 strangers names and an address. In the end, Liz wanted to do nothing but us to clean up the mess since it's "free service", so I went to the court and asked for help. The family law facilitator was great. She quickly fixed all the mistakes Liz had made (there were many), and sh[[HIGHLIGHT]]e asked who my lawyer was. I gave Liz's full name and business name. She responded, "Oh yea, s[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]he is very helpful, right?" read more

UPDATE (4/8/25): the business has responded in a comment that could be read to suggest that I am involved in a "smear campaign" and that a judge has ruled on this: I assure you, while that may be true for other reviews, I am just an aggrieved party who has no resolution. Libelous comments notwithstanding, I only want Liz & Jeff to hear the feedback and take it to heart. Do yourself a favor and steer clear. The other 1-star reviews are spot on and mirror my experience so well that it feels personal. Liz will gaslight you. She will claim technical issues. She will claim that you made a mistake, that they've never offered such-and-such service (even if you have a receipt for it). She will say that she has everything she needs to finish everything up in one email and[[HIGHLIGHT]] then 3 minutes later say: "I don't have any record of that" or more probably just ignore you. Her services are reasonably basic, but we had the expectation that Liz would know the process and that she'd help shepherd things through the system so we didn't have to deal with administrivia on top of ou[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]r emotional divorce. You will be required to pay upfront -- of course. Liz will schedule a call where she goes through things, talks -- at length -- about this/that/and the other thing. She'll build your confidence in her by saying: "The commissioners are looking for something like 'x'" or "I've seen a lot of people get tripped up by doing 'y' you should do 'x' instead". She'll ask you some questions about splitting up assets or parenting plans. You might even come away from [[HIGHLIGHT]]that first session feeling, kind of okay, but I'm afraid that will be the last time that feeling happens during this process. Liz talks a big game, but really she just trots out [[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]a template that has none of what you'd said or agreed upon. It feels as though you and your soon-t[[HIGHLIGHT]]o-be ex-spouse imagined the call you were on and now you have to do it all over again via email. She will waste y[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]our time. You'll send an email and she'll respond a week later with a [[HIGHLIGHT]]quick question. You reply back nearly instantly and won't hear anything for a month or more. So you ask about status, try to follow up, ask for an update, and she will be completely silent. Once you do get a hold of her she'll be completely stunned that you misunderstood everything that's been going on. Liz will make this process -- however bad it is -- much much worse. When you look at h[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]er website, you'd be forgiven for thinking "she's just bad at the Internet" or "she's trying to optimize for search engine ranking". That's just how she'll write to you or speak to you. Stream of consciousness; rambling 5000 word essays that you'll read over and over trying to extract a morsel of knowledge only to realize you understand less afterward than you did before. Reading the reviews, it seems like in prior years they were doing much better. People had been happy with their services. I know from my 16-month (and continuing) ordeal that they are both in a very different state of mind than the previous reviews would lead you to believe. DO NOT HIRE. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Working with Elizabeth was the most frustrating experience I've ever had with working with somebody I've hired.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the very beginning things were bad, and we should've left to somewhere else at the first sign of trouble.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The TL;DR is that she: [[HIGHLIGHT]]doesn't respond to emails with any urgency at all despite her auto-respond saying she'll respond in 1-2 business days[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], she said several times that docs were sent out via Docusign in response to our emails but we have no evidence of any of that (in fact, when they were finally sent out metadata showed they'd just been created 10 minutes before), and she frequently tried to weasel out of handling everything we paid for which was filling out and filing ALL necessary documents. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We ended up giving up on getting any response from her and filing through the Family Law Facilitators.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recommend you do the same or hire literally ANY OTHER LAWYER. The only thing she did was file the initial petition, 4 months after our initial meeting. As of today our divorce is finalized (11.5 months after our initial meeting with Elizabeth), which is why I waited to write this review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Working with Elizabeth was more frustrating than working with my ex during this time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] DO NOT HIRE HER to handle anything related to your divorce. You'll regret it. I'd like to let everybody know that Yelp has a messaging system, if you'd like to know more before hiring these hacks. Oh, and I did a public record's request on their police report. Somebody messaged them some threatening texts and they told the police they didn't know who it was, but gave my name regardless of any proof. Nothing came of it, because it wasn't me. Who would've guessed they lied about something! Edit 2: She's now accusing me of writing other negative reviews on this page, and soliciting people to harass her, neither of which are true. Absolutely ridiculous behavior constantly blaming me and other clients for all her problems. EVERYTHING in their edit below about me calling them and saying rude things, multiple reports to the state, yelling, etc, are all LIES. Again, they think every negative thing that happens to them is me, when they've clearly upset many other people enough to do such ridiculous things. I hadn't even updated my reviews in MONTHS, yet they keep editing their responses with new BS, and call me the one spending a lot of time. To the many people disgruntled by them: just leave your truthful reviews on the pertinent websites, and/or the AGO. Edit: She has threatened to sue me for defamation for this review. Everything stated is accurate or my opinion. More reason to not hire her. It's embarrassing for a lawyer to be this huffy over a bad review brought on due to her negligence. More drama at the Big G review. If she put as much effort into finishing up our divorce docs as she has been trying to threaten to sue me or actually sue me, none of this would be a problem, but in reality she's a hack. The below is all based on our opinions: Avoid Liz and Jeff at all costs. They call themselves mediators, but in our opinion they're really just hustlers in disguise. They pose as mediators but act more like chaos coordinators with a bill attached, in our opinion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Liz will gaslight you, contradict herself within minutes, and insist your missing documents are your fault even when you have proof.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Her "guidance" amounts to recycled templates that ignore everything you discussed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Communication is glacial, disorganized, and riddled with rambling late-night essays that explain nothing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What should've eased our divorce turned into a 12-month slog of confusion, delay, and deflection. Based on their erratic behavior, they seem deeply unwell -- and your case will suffer for it. Steer clear. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]From my experience, (Maude) Elizabeth Steen was patronizing, sexist, unreliable, unorganized, unprofessional, and has terrible communication skills.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In short, the person who was supposed to help us finalize our divorce was the one person who stood in our way from getting divorced. It took 1 year to get through the whooping 2 issues my ex and I needed a mediator to help us navigate. In the end, Mrs. Steen claimed that our case had been filed, but the county clerk and I could not find any records of the case being filed. So, I ended up filing our case myself and I now have it on good authority that this is a common occurrence for other clients who use Mrs. Steen's services. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I can't emphasize enough how frustrating and agonizing it was trying to work with Mrs. Steen.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Getting a divorce is stressful enough.
