The Dix Hills Park Golf Course is fine for beginner golf players ( par 3 and4 holes) and would be more enjoyable if there was actual grass on the fairways. This course is a disgrace to the sport. Course is not well maintained if at all and is used for both golf and "soccer golf" for summer campers which further chews up the fairways. Some tee boxes actually afford one to properly get off a tee short while others seriously need reseeding. The Northport Golf Course located on the VA hospital grounds or even Smithtown Landing are better options for those wishing to get in a 9 hole game. In fact, if you're a beginner and enjoy playing on actual grass go there or even try the Gull Haven Golf Course. I was golfing at the dix hills golf course recently with my friend. It seems every time I go there the lawn mowers are always running nonstop. It's very annoying. I had a very bad experience there recently. I was putting and someone was cutting the lawn right around the green I was at. I tried to see if they could stop for a moment. The guy on the mower wouldn't stop. I approached him several times. He would not stop. He proceeded to laugh at me as I was attempting to stop him to ask him if he could stop mowing for a moment it was a joke. read more

Dix Hills Golf Course is a 9-hole, par 31 layout rolls through Dix Hills Park with forgiving fairways and copious greens. Is a good place to refine your short game, and teach new young players the game of golf. It's a small 9 hole course. Not very well maintained. The carts have sensors on them so trying to find lost balls isn't the easiest. Comparable priced to other courses that are nicer. No real tee times just pay and wait in line at the first hole. read more

Me and my buddies were looking to play 9 and chose Dix Hills park. We were very satisfied with our decision. The staff was polite and instructive. We requested two golf carts and they were all ready to go and sanitized for us. The greens were well kept and the layout of the course was acceptable. I like to hang out and do diy projects in the lot on my day off. Some dude pulled up and asked me to leave today. He mentioned camp was leaving. It didn't make sense to me at first , until I realized he was accusing me of watching children. I happened to catch the staff member on the way out, and mentioned to him I felt it slightly offensive to be accused of something so outrageous, when I'm just using the park like everyone else. Dix Hills Park golf course is everything golf should be and if more courses were like it, a lot more people would play golf. Since Pebble Beach gained prominence and course designers like Pete Dye became celebrities, golf became about emulating the most difficult challenges the pros face. The evolution of modern equipment and the prominence of the Tiger Woods-style bombers where golfers are highly-tuned professional athletes that can drive the ball 350 yards has only exacerbated the problem. Golf is hard enough, the average golfer doesn't need crowned greens with shaved false fronts/fall-offs, pins 4 paces from water hazards and 200 yard carries over fescue. Fortunately courses like Dix Hills exist for mere mortals. At 9 holes and shy of 2000 yards, the course casually winds through rolling hills, with five par 3's and four par 4's. Aside from hole #2, downhill and almost 250 yards, the par 3's are of reasonable length and the par 4's are almost drivable, none longer than 310 yards. Longer hitters will enjoy the options the course provides, while avoiding the inevitable frustration playing with more casual players who aren't very long or accurate. More than any other course I've played, lots of kids play at Dix Hills and the length of the course makes for a manageable 2 hours for the most incapable duffer. There isn't any water on the course, but there are some strategically placed bunkers, filled with soft sand and reasonably kept. Trees tightly line the course, requiring precision. The major drawback of Dix Hills (and thus the 3 star review) are the greens, which are overgrown and not well kept. Ball marks dot the surfaces, while many sections were burned off. At least two were accidentally gouged by leaking hydraulic fluid from grooming equipment. Still, at $25 for non-residents to walk on a weekend, the experience is a nice deal. Rates are even better for Huntington town residents and non-peak hours. In addition to the course, there is a 150 yard range (perfect to warm up with a small bucket before your round) with matts, a putting green where you can adapt to the glacial pace of the surfaces and a chipping area with a couple practice bunkers dangerously close to the 9th green. read more

I don't play golf so i can't comment on the course. So just fair warning, this review is for the Summer Junior Golf Program they offer. My son has done the summer junior camp for the past few years here and has had a great time. Then instructors are their resident pros led by George Dixon and they teach all the basics of the game at each session. They also have a more advance group which spends most of the day on the course, working on their game. The camp is very accommodating, they will work with you to make sure you don't lose a session because you couldn't make it or are on vacation. They will get let you drop in on one of the other days. read more

Here's the thing. The fact that no ones even reviewed this course since 2013 probably tells you a little about the popularity of this establishment in general. Here's the other thing: it USED to actually be a upper-decent course to kick around. It's local, it's clean and park like. It frequently had great deals on the tee booking site that always included a cart. NOW?! The tee site never has attractive deals, and when they do, it's the walking only rate-- something you have to look out for, as you could easily not understand that that's what you're missing out on. They've also outfitted their golf carts with this horrendous "Visage information system" that is for some reason the new hot thing to put in golf carts aimed at ruining a person's game experience and interfering with any semblance of focus or relaxation. I've come across it twice now at different courses, one in FL, and it quite possibly is the worst invention I've ever seen. That company should be wiped off the face of the planet. Unfortunately, Dix Hills drank the koolaid, and has ruined their carting experience bc of it. Their maintenance crew also enjoys mowing the greens and fairways in the middle of a weekend day and if they start at your hole, they basically end up following you the entire duration of the course. I don't know about you but a shrieking mower hovering past you for 9 holes and 2 hours with a golf cart that stops dead in its tracks and yells at you even when you're dead straight on the path doesn't sound worth 60$. One time they decided to sand the greens while we were in play. Literally sand shooting in every direction. This time, they set the sprinklers to go on during a holiday in the middle of the afternoon and it soaked the entire cart, all our stuff and ruined the last hole for us as the cart beeps and locks up while we try to drive away and save ourselves. People behind us could not play either. Some hot shot named "George" is apparently in some kind of charge there and the other old timer at the desk otherwise has no authority to help you or satisfy you in anyway. Just directs you to call George and says he's seen this kind of stuff at other courses too like that's some kind of consolation. It's a total shame bc the course was actually an easy choice in the past. I enjoyed it, the deals were good, the environment was enjoyable.... except of course with the soccer golf game option where teams of 10 Hispanic players show up blasting music and hover waiting all around you while you're trying to tee off. Coupled with lawn mowers, beeping gold carts, and sprinklers? AWESOME. You are FAR BETTER off going to Sunken Ghetto who seemingly hasn't drank that horrible golf cart system koolaid (yet) -- apparently Crap Meadow has already fyi-- and even they sometimes do that annoying mower game, but at least the course is par 4s and 5s, you have choices for the course you want, and the parking fee is comped with the golf costs. Honestly the fact that they don't have that golf cart thing alone is worth it. That system is horrible. Considering Dix Hills is a little podunk 9 hole course it should really stick to being a low key enjoyable option for locals and not try to be The friggin Bethpage Black course and police everyone like they're protecting some sacred garden of eden. I don't even want to know how much tax payer money they wasted on installing golf cart nonsense. And it's not even the full package- the systems are supposed to tell you yardage to the green among other "information" and they didn't even spring for that. It's sole purpose at Dix hills is to shut the cart off if you veer anywhere near its invisible fencing. There isn't even anywhere to go at that place. We found so many abandoned balls people had to leave bc it just wasn't even worth getting locked in place over. More people need to complain. We requested money back bc of the sprinklers and the golf cart system. We will see what mister cool George can do for us tomorrow. Go somewhere else. read more
