Oh my how times have changed!…read more I used to buy equipment here a while back but due to "life" I haven't played golf in about 3 years. So I stopped by there the other day and was shocked! I was the only customer in the store and the 2 employees were sitting there chatting. They greeted me and I went to look around. On the wall where there used to be 75-100 sets of irons to look at there were about 10. In the putting area that used to be full of putters to try it looked like the milk section of a supermarket right before a hurricane...bare! They did have a lot of golf apparel and golfing bric-a-brac though. All the Golfsmiths are closed and now this, so I don't know what the deal is. I don't know if it is the new PGA Superstore or online shopping but it's looking pretty sad out there.

The fabric grabbed the clubs and it was difficult to put them all the way down. After several rounds I grew too frustrated with the bag. I brought the bag back to the store. I didn't have my receipt but the sticker on the bottom confirmed it was from the store. At first the manager said I was past my 30 day allowance and that he couldn't re- sell it since it was used. He also said the manufacturer would not take it back. I didn't abuse the bag and I wasn't belligerent with him. He graciously made an exception and allowed me to shop that day with a full refund. I didn't take notice of his name but he has a distinctive beard. Shout out to him and the well stocked store. Don't hesitate to shop there.

His instructions were often difficult to understand and he'd get annoyed when I'd ask clarifying questions. The lessons involved presenting rather difficult concepts in whole (e.g. the entire golf swing), and then observing my attempts at it. Each mistake was met with visible frustration, putting me in a constant state of unease, which felt counterproductive to the learning process. In moments when I could have used guidance, he'd let out a big sigh or resort to periods of silence, increasing my anxiety and self-consciousness. His reactions were so harsh that I found myself constantly apologizing for making the slightest of mistakes. During the second lesson (of my life btw!), he actually yelled, "Oh my God" in frustration after I missed a shot. Talk about a confidence killer! I couldn't believe that a PGA pro that was being paid to teach would have that kind of a reaction to a total beginner missing a shot. The fact that I miss shots was the very point of why I was taking lessons in the first place! Plus, it was super embarrassing as there were many people around us. Ultimately, Danny's tendency to respond rudely and condescendingly to my beginner-level mistakes was deflating, and led to a decrease in my motivation to practice and continue learning with him. Although I prepaid for 5 lessons, after the second one, I was done. Despite the financial loss, the thought of enduring another session was more agonizing. I was excited to start learning golf, this was supposed to be a way to unwind and have fun. Regrettably, and despite the positive reviews, this was not my experience. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I felt like I had to let people know what they might be getting into, especially since his lessons aren't cheap. I really hope Danny can take this feedback into consideration and change the way he teaches to be more supportive to us golf newbies.

I've been to Topgolf a few times and always thought it was a fun place, especially with a group of…read morefriends or family. The games are fun, the atmosphere is exciting, and it's a nice way to spend a few hours. The food is okay and the drinks are good, but like most places these days, they are expensive. This last visit was a little disappointing. My wife and I took a day off and went in the morning to hit some balls and maybe have brunch. Since you pay by the hour, I didn't like losing time setting up the computer, getting interrupted by an employee trying to sell me a membership while I was about to take a swing, and having pop-up ads appear on the screen while we were playing. I understand the employees are just doing their jobs, but I think memberships should be discussed when checking in, not during time that customers are paying to play. I also noticed the menu had changed and some of the shareable foods I enjoyed in the past were gone, so we just had a drink and went somewhere else for brunch. I'll still come back because I do enjoy Topgolf, but I hope they make some changes so customers can spend more of their paid time actually playing.

We did have some rowdy kids above us, we were on the ground floor 132, and they were throwing down golf balls , then their clubs came flying down right in front of us. Everyone has a home field advantage and OB is mine. This par 70 course is short (6376 from the…read moreblues) and carved into the woods. Oh, and tight. Very tight. Particularly the 7th hole. I cut my teeth on this course so I spent a lot of time in the trees. I have to admit also that when I started taking golf seriously 6 years ago, this course was in a lot better shape than it is in now. The geese have had their way with the fairways. I played OB last Saturday and walked on as a single at 11:16. I noticed that they have put up some phony dogs to scare the geese away and they have made an attempt to repair some of the grounds. My favorite hole is still the 17th. At 445 yards this is a spectacular hole that doglegs rights through a narrow run of tall dogwood trees, downhill and back up to an elevated green. Saturday, I hit a perfect drive into the wind that stopped in the middle of the fairway at the top of the slope and at the entrance to that narrow opening. I hit another perfect shot with a 5 iron into the wind, 185 yards and was able to walk down the hill as if the trees were the gallery and they were applauding. I left my put 6 inches short on the slow greens and tapped in for my par. Historically, I either make par or a 9 on this hole. Had I birdied the 18th I would have carded my first round in the eighties, but I bogied after a bad break when my ball was swatted down like Charles Oakley (see what I did there) at the top of a tree. I scrambled hard for my 5 by punching an iron through the trees on the right and landing on the green. As it ended up, I scored a 91, my lowest score ever!

This is possible because Gabe has the teaching and playing experience to coach you in all aspects of your game, whether it's course management or building confidence around your shots. Gabe has elevated my awareness of my own swing and helped me stay committed to making long term swing changes. Like many golfers starting out, I still struggle with the basics like consistent contact, club face control, and release. No instructor can transform your swing overnight, but TRUST he will give you the right things to work on and many ways to work on them. As a result, I am making solid contact with the ball more frequently, have 15+ yards in distance per club, and am hitting straighter shots. Most importantly, Gabe will teach you how to be your own coach. Working with Gabe over time has given me the tools to diagnose and straighten out issues in my own swing even on a day when "I just can't seem to hit the ball." It has also taught me to consume the myriad golf content I encounter online with a critical eye.
