Into the Woods was amazing. But the performances aren't always the best but it's community theater and I love that everyone gets a chance. On that note, however, a lot (if not all) of theater is extremely political in the Shoals (I took off another star for this). I'm not a great actor myself, but I've seen auditions that were amazing, sure winners, but then they cast someone who, quite frankly sucks, and happens to be the son of someone else who sucks who is a member on the board. But, they also play movies and stuff which is cool.

Popcorn, drinks, popcorn topping and trash are almost always present on the floor. The theater is almost always understaffed and overwhelmed. The film selection isn't great typically having the latest superhero film, animated features, horror movie and faith-based film but if you're lucky, they might have awards worthy films for a few days. So check daily or you might have to drive to Huntsville or further to watch that character driven, performance fueled movie. The theater has changed ownership but sadly it's no better than it was and I might say worse than it was and before that I didn't think that was possible. At least I haven't walked out of screening to witness the manager berating his crew while alternately beating a popcorn machine with a hammer and menacing employees with the same hammer. Better than having no theater at all just barely but it is. Because we live in a small town doesn't mean we should forego the expectation of quality and service but that seems almost a constant theme and when you ask long time locals there response is, what do you expect in a small town. If you're charging big city prices, I expect for people to give a damn.

The other two were closed (roped off). In the one working men's bathroom, only one of two urinals was working. One urinal was covered with plastic. The one toilet in the stall was functioning correctly as best I could tell. I did hear another patron mention there was an adult diaper that someone had discarded in the floor beside the toilet. Also, only one of the two water faucets at the sink was working. Only one of two soap dispensers was working correctly. On a positive note, the theater seating area seemed to be relatively clean and the seating was acceptable . The movie "Young Washington" was very enjoyable. I wanted to mention my concerns about the restroom situation because of their poor condition. In a world where we have choices, I would suggest this needs to be addressed. Speaking of choices, we can drive 20 to 25 minutes further from home and be in Tupelo, MS. I prefer Florence since it is closer, but the poor maintenance at Florence may sway me towards the Tupelo theaters. The Malco theater in Tupelo is in a completely different league-- so superior! It is so sad to see how neglected, poorly staffed and poorly maintained the AMC Florence location has become.

The railings have little paint left on them. The seating is worn and obviously filthy. I haven't been to a movie I a while. I won't be coming back here unless it's bought out or completely renovated. the smell is a bit much. I've never complained on line or given a review on a business before. Bigger stadium style seating, better projection, and higher quality sound, with Dolby Atmos offerings for certain films. That said, you're going to pay for it. Whereas a late showing at Cinemark runs $9.50- $9.75 (as of 26 May 25), Malco is charging $11.25-$11.75. On Tuesday specials, you have a similar gap, with Cinemark around $5, and Malco around $7. I generally find this reasonable given the differences. We swung by on Memorial Day during a busy opening, holiday extended weekend. Booking online (and having to pay extra for it) helps get past any lines, and skip to the kiosk. Like most modern theaters, there's no traditional movie stubs; rather cheap receipt paper tickets, about as thin as toilet paper. Being a stub collector I find this disappointing, but again I can't ding them for it, as it's par for the course with most theatres. The staff was courteous, and the theater clean. Until that point I was sitting on five (5) stars ... unfortunately I cannot ignore or forgive the state of disrepair my "luxury" seat was in (picture included; House 5, Row J). And the two (2) next to it, weren't far behind, so it clearly wasn't a one (1) off. This is not something that gets accidentally missed, nor something that happened suddenly. Because of that, I can't get past a two (2). However, being a film lover, I will try again in about a month, booking the same House, to see if there are any changes. If so, I'll update my rating accordingly.

There's two (2) players in Tupelo when it comes to movies. There's Cinemark 8 in the mall, and…read moreMalco, which is a newer stand alone Theatre, just down the street. While each has their pros and cons, just for the overall more laid back vibe, I prefer Cinemark. As stated, it's in the mall, and when you first walk in, feels very much like an old-school mall theatre. You can book online (or purchase in person the old fashioned way), and choose your seating. Then, pick up your physical tickets when you arrive, via the box office (if it's being staffed), the kiosk inside, or the concession stand. As far as the theatres themselves, it's run of the mill digital surround sound. And the bigger theater you're in the better the sound, because of more speakers. That said, don't go in expecting Dolby Atmos or 4D, or an XD (IMAX competitor) screen. Expect an older style gentle sloping theatre (versus pure stadium seating) with comfortable "luxury recliners". The staff is friendly, the seats are comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean. Also, if you go to the movies somewhat often or regularly, their movie club membership is more than worth it. My only real issue would be inconsistent A/C temps, depending on which theatre house you're in. In my opinion theatres should consistently be on the colder side.

The seats are more intimate and a little more comfortable honestly. And let's not forget that the tickets usually come with a complimentary small popcorn!! I usually don't have any issues coming here besides the one time my ID was expired so they would not allow me to go to the upstairs lounge even tho that's where my seats were, super frustrating of course. Also my past visit someone took my seats due to someone else sitting in their sleep. But everything worked itself out!
