We love Dixie Paws & Claws! We rescued our pup Monty in 2023 and he HATES being groomed so we are so grateful that Cassidy is willing to work with him and they always do a great job! We still give Monty sedation meds because he gets so anxious and also working on getting him more comfy with tools at home. Dixie Paws is easily located in Downtown Woodland so you can explore while your doggies get a safe spa day! They also have lots of toys for doggies and it's always just a pleasant visit, even though Monty is a stress ball, we are sure he is very grateful to everyone there for taking such good care of him! It's been 8 YEARS now. And we have another dog lol, and this place never fails us. My shitzu (black and white) boy isn't the best. Growls and doesn't like to get groomed and they put up with us. My terrier (brown) doesn't like it either but that's more anxiety/fear base then aggression. The groomers always give me an update how it went after, it's almost always an hour for each dog. 2 hours in and out. They get a full bath, nails, hair cut and anal glands cleaned. My only advice is BOOK IN ADVANCE!! This place is great. We moved out of town years ago and I still make the drive here. I've always taken my pup here for nail trims it's usually a smooth and fast process. Today I walked in and asked the lady if they had time for a trim, she was clearly busy and the only one working I already expected her to say no. However, instead of apologizing or suggesting I make an appointment she just said "no actually we don't have time" and that was the end of the conversation, not even a "have a good day". I get the job can be overwhelming if you're the only one working however there should be a little bit more customer service rather than just flat out saying no cause that kind of made me feel differently about coming back. read more

I went in for a nail trim expecting them to use nail clippers because my dog hates the electric drummel and it was traumatizing. They would keep going and not give her time and I will not go back. The place is also full of dog hair not in the grooming area and it was not welcoming to walk into. Go in with caution. I can't say anything about the grooming but the dogs looked happy. I stumbled across Dixie's a few years back when I had bad experiences at other groomers. The staff loves on my Kevin as if he were their own. Kevin doesn't love his face or paws touched but has overcome that with their patience and consistency. The assortment of dog and cat accessories and treats is vast. There are always new goodies to look at while in the store. The grooming area is always clean and they vacuum up everything between every dog groom. What can I say but this Place is top notch! I love Dixie's Paws and Claws! All I ever come here for are nail trims and sometimes treats or random things I need for the dogs but this place is amazing. They are so kind and very quick and professional! I took my dogs to pet smart for years and they clearly did not like my dog as she is very wiggly because she hates getting her nails trimmed and they struggled with her so much. The staff here are so quick and do not struggle with my wiggly dog at all! I haven't had any issues getting appointments. Also more affordable than pet smart. Took our senior cocker mix here for a spa day. She hasn't been to a professional groomer in a while as we weren't terribly happy at another groomer in town. Decided to try Dixie's and we are really happy. Upon arrival (12/12/18) we were greeted by a very sweet young lady who got us taken care of with initial paperwork and a discussion of what we wanted. Our dog was scared but the young lady was very kind and reassuring to us and our pet that she would be fine. We could see the other groomers and happy pets being groomed. We were told 1.5 - 2 hours and sure enough we got the call and our pet was so comfortable she now didn't want to leave! We are very happy with the grooming job and she smelled so good. I was a little frustrated when i started searching for a groomer and couldn't find one that was open any time other than 8-5, M-F - unfortunately I don't have one of those jobs that will let me just run out and take my dog to the groomers (but seriously, who does?!), so I was excited to finally find a groomer open on Saturday! I took my dog Roxy here yesterday for the first time. Perhaps it was because I brought her in on a Sunday morning, but the groomer was done in record time (just a little bit over an hour) and Roxy came out looking adorable. They even put a couple of cute little bow ties behind her ears. According to Roxy's "report card" (a little sheet the groomer fills out commenting on things like the dog's skin health, teeth, and disposition) she didn't even give them any problems even though she's usually not the most manageable dog. They also said they do touch-ups for free, if in a couple weeks she needs another nail trim or something. On top of everything, it was more affordable than any other place I've taken Roxy for a bath/haircut. Even though I live in Davis, I'll likely be bringing Roxy back to this place in the future for another grooming. They were fast, friendly, and did a great job. read more

Went there twice in one month. All of the staff is very friendly and seems to be kind and caring towards animals. But they definitely cannot brush out an undercoat to save their lives. Last month I left there with full on dreads in the back two legs which after another month turned into a horrible mess as I've been too busy to go back. I gave them another chance (and a 12 dollar tip both times) seems that this place is gone totally downhill. They did a great job last year but have been subpar to say the least for brushing out her undercoat ever since. Really nice people but horrible brush out for undercoats. I recently adopted a rescue and decided rather than grooming and washing my dog like I have with past pets that we would do monthly wash and grooms. I chose dixies because it was close to home but they honestly go above and beyond and are so reasonably priced I wouldn't go anywhere else now. My dog Gracie is always so timid and worried when I drop her off but they always take their time with her and warm her up to them. I really appreciate all they do. I have been in here now 3 times. Customer service is always great, even though 2 of those times there were main st community events going on so there were people everywhere. The store has a small selection of items compared to those big box pet stores and 2/3 times didn't have want I wanted in the right size or color or just didn't have the items I was looking for. I went back a 3rd time and they had one of the items in stock I had looked for previously. I was able to try it on and purchase the item. While I figured I was paying a bit more for the item, I was not expecting double. I later found the same items on amazon for $15 and the bigger pet stores for $20... I paid $30! I also like to support businesses that support the community. I have not found that with this businesses and the groups I have been associated with. read more

My family and I have been taking our two dogs here for quite some time now... (about two years I believe!) At Dixie's they've always taken great care of our mini Schnau and chunky bulldog. If we have an appointment we need to squeeze they always seem to manage to fit us in. If they can't they definitely give us the next best option. I think that the best thing, is that your dog will be safe and in good hands. The staff seems sincere and careful. They take great pride in what they do. Plus, the owner is always around and involved and that's great to see. If there's ever a concern, they resolve it. For instance, if the nails are still a bit too long, there's no attitude or fuss. I love Dixie's!!! This is the only place I will take my pup to get groomed. I trust the groomers completely, and I love that the products they use are all natural and chemical free. They even do a great job with cats and gave my kitty a super cute lion cut. We had just moved from a rural area and our cat picked up sooo many ticks. It was disgusting, but they were able to remove all of them. I also love the little report cards that they give out after every grooming! Dixie's recently started carrying Natural Balance, the brand my little dog does well on & it's even less expensive than what I was paying over at the big box store by Costco. I have a rescue dog who had only been groomed once before and HATES it. Dixie and her staff were incredibly patient and sweet with my dog who was freaking out. They talked sweetly to him and petted him to calm him and went out of their way to give him special treats when it was all over. They even encouraged me to keep bringing him back despite his naughtiness. Additionally, they charged me $35 less than the last place. Great service, and cheap too? Yes, please. BEWARE! My dog's tail was badly cut and required stitches from the vet, Dixies staff took him to. I was not notified until after that this incident occurred and told my dog would need to be picked back up from Dixies. Dixies had the nerve to tell me there would be no charge for my dog's trauma. I am new to the area with a dog that is very fearful of groomers because of a past rough/mean grooming experience. My dog is a cockapoo with rather curly hair that was overdue for care. I found Dixie's on Yelp & am very happy! Jack walked in w/o the usual fearful experience (no bad smells/karma?). My Dog is allergic to corn and has always had to have high quality dog food, Dixie's carries great brands of dog food for a decent price...No you can't buy a 30# bag of dog food for $10 here...but I love my dog!
