Just got back from staying in the rustic yurt for 2 nights. We had a very nice time. The bathrooms had to be some of the cleanest I have ever seen at a campground. The staff was very friendly and organized. My children are 8 and 9 years old and they enjoyed themselves. I think this is the most quiet campground I have ever been to. Seemed like about 1/2 the guest if not more we're older couples from Quebec. They very much kept to themselves but would still say hello from time to time. I'm not sure this would be the place for you if you like blasting music and being rowdy or have very loud children. The pool was very nice and kept very clean. The playground could definitely use a overhaul.. not much to it at the moment... but non the less my kids still had fun. The campground is a short ride to the beach. However it was so nice I didn't really feel the need to leave. We will definitely be going back again! read more

This campground was absolutely wonderful. The sites are leveled and filled with crushed stone, the electrical box is placed perfect for a quick part and level, with giving you use of the entire space provided. The grounds is so well maintained, the bathrooms are beautiful with outdoor hand washing sinks in one side and dish washing sinks on the other end. Showers are coin but it's only 50 cents for 5 minutes which is MORE than enough time. The showers are small but just enough of what you need to get the job done. The only complaint I would have would be that the shower heads are not adjustable and I am short so I felt like I was getting water out of the shower and directly in my face. But water was hot and so soft. Pet friendly, and neighbor friendly, I felt like everyone we walked by said good morning and was sooo kind. Camp store is greatly priced, and had just what you might need if you forget something. Will deliver wood directly to your site for 7$ a bundle. Maintained quiet hour, driving around to check at 10 to make sure no fires are left unattended. I just loved it! I can't say that I have found a campground yet where I'm like "I need to go back" but this one I did. It's so close to so many local beaches, shops, NH, it's perfectly located , the playground is old but it's just enough, and the POOL is amazing with a super cute gazebo right next to it with chairs and tables. All the sites are very well maintained. So even though it rained hard for nearly 24 hours there was no ponding on our site and our tent stayed dry. Staff are so very friendly and accommodating. We will be back. read more

With a fantastic location just a couple of minutes from downtown Ogunquit and practically across the street from York's Animal Kingdom, Dixon's is a great alternative to staying in a hotel. The property is incredibly well maintained and the bathrooms are immaculate. One quirk regarding the bathhouse though is that you will find the toilets on one side and then the sinks outdoors on the opposite side of the building. Usually this isn't a big deal but when it's 3am and chilly outside you're usually trying to make your bathroom run as quick as possible so the setup could be a bit of a nuisance. If you're staying in a camper with a bathroom though the bathhouse setup is irrelevant. We stayed for 3 nights and the staff was very helpful. We were especially pleased to see that they escort you to your site and in our case they helped us back in which expedited the setup process for us. Sites were very clean but were just shy of bordering on tight. Some of the fire rings are not ideally located and can be a little close to your camper. There is a blurb in the pamphlet they give you that says not to move the fire rings without consulting staff so it sounds like in the past other guests have also found that their fire location was sometimes less than ideal. It was usually pretty easy to get ahold of someone who worked there because they were constantly driving around to make sure everything was ok on the grounds. Some of the sites seemed pretty level but others are on a bit of a hill so to level your camper you will have to jack up one end of it a good amount. Also, it's worth noting that their transient sites don't have sewer hookup which is a real pain if you're planning on staying more than a couple of days and want to use the bathroom/shower in your camper. However, their dump station was one of the cleanest we've ever seen. There are sites right next to it though so that's probably why they keep it so immaculate. We did hear comments that they had plans to start adding sewer to many sites but then we were also told by a staff member that they were going to convert many of their sites so month only reservations so maybe that's why. If the comment about the monthly reservations is true I'm sure that will be good for the business owners but it will stink for those of us who aren't retired and don't have the luxury of taking a month off from work. The pool was nice and looked really well maintained but since there was so much to do in the area and we were only staying a few days we didn't get to use it. Cell phone service worked here with strong T-Mobile signal. Hallelujah! What a blessing when you're searching for a good place to eat or something fun to do in the area. We drove around the campground and it had one of the largest offerings of tent sites that I've ever seen. So if you like to camp in a tent or pop-up and you're looking for a site in a popular tourist destination then Dixon's has you covered. One last thing, Dixon's does offer late checkout if needed and if your site is available. This is a really nice option to have but be prepared to pay an additional fee for it. I assume this has to do with the campground being located in a highly coveted area because I've never been charged for a late checkout at a campground. I would advise that if you have any reservation or late checkout questions though that you ask to speak to the manager or owner. You won't always get a consistent or definitive response if you don't. Overall we loved Dixon's and it's a great value. If we can manage to get reservations next season we'll definitely be back. read more

We were at Short Sands allllll day, and didn't want to leave for CT. All the hotels were booked, and anything open was outrageously out of our reach. Then I remembered Dixon's, where we'd camped some years ago while staying for a summer weekend (tenting). We'd already had the bed in the back of the van (I have a chronic, progressive pain condition that causes me much trouble, and we had the bed in case I needed to lay down on the long drive to/from Maine), so why not?? They had a few tent spots open, and off we went to check in. The rate was incredibly reasonable, and the ladies in the office were soooo friendly and helpful. They thought to ask me if I needed to be within a close distance to the bathrooms (my mobility is limited), and put us on a nice flat surface directly across from the potties & showers. SO sweet!! When we went to the site, it was clean and quiet. The showers (which are heated--you adjust the warmth) are 50 cents for 5 minutes, and they are the cleanest I've seen in any campground we've been to. The same goes for the bathrooms. These people are on top of things!! The place is well-monitored, as we saw a gentleman driving around a cart, asking if anyone needed anything, checking the bathrooms and garbage, etc. We felt totally safe and comfortable. We had a lovely little fire, were visited by an owl (just flew to a branch above us and watched for a bit), and went to bed. Had a solid night's sleep, and were back at the beach in the morning, happy to extend our time away another day. Thank you, Dixon staff! My husband and I took an overnight trip up to York pretty spur of the moment; we looked online and on the wonderful criteria of "best-looking-website" we chose Dixon's. Made an easy reservation since we wouldn't be there until around 7 or so, and arrived just a bit afterwards. They've got your standard little store with firewood (6$/bundle), grill racks, marshmallows and the like, and set you up with a car gate pass so you can enter/leave whenever you'd like to. Now, it's been a while since I've been camping in an actual campground instead of, you know, in the woods, so I'd never encountered that before--pretty cool and very useful! They also had a pool, and room for RV camping. The sites themselves had quite a range...some were all by themselves in little secluded enclaves, while others were pretty close with only a cars-width in between. Fire rings are included, and the bathrooms were decent--very well kept up it seemed, since there were no wads of toilet paper covering the ground. Showers are beautifully hot with nice racks and benches to set things on, to the tune of 50 cents per 10 minutes. All in all, we greatly enjoyed our night there, making s'mores, talking to the Quebecquois that were all around us, and enjoying a night out by ourselves. read more

Pros: Great location to York and Ogunquit Beaches. Less than 10 minutes to each beach Clean, friendly staff with a store to get any of your camping essentials, pool, sites are marked clearly. Clean bathrooms and showers (25 cents for 5 mins - fyi) decent mirrors, a place to wash dishes and cute little lost and found bin. Cons: no field or large patch of grass to play lawn games and they didn't have any games already set up for the campers. since they are so close to the beaches a taxi/trolly service would be an awesome addition as well especially since the parking fills up fast Also - my biggest complaint would be the tent sites. they did not seem very private. many had a chain linked fence (perhaps to keep animals out) and were very close to the road. While walking around there seemed to be some sites that were set back a little but many of the tent sites were so close to the road I felt like when a car went by it was driving next to my head. I am a very heavy sleeper and in the morning's people would be walking past my tent dragging their feet which woke me up. if you stay in a tent ask for a more secluded campsite. read more

Just stayed here a few days ago. It was a nice find. The place is spotless and the bathrooms are the cleanest I have seen. Individual stalls and washing separate. Also, if you want to bike to Oguniquit, it is an easy ride. Masks re required in the bathroom area, so you will feel very safe. If you go to Maine, you will feel safe. This was not the best campground i have stayed in. It was ok, no loud people, basic security gate like most, but my complaint is about the bathrooms. There is no "bath house" the bathrooms are for both gender and when you walk out of the stall you are outside, kinda like flushable porta pottys with showers on the ends.... wasnt really my kinda thing. i have no complaints about anything else, except for the price too it was kinda expensive compaired to other places ive stayed. it is close to everything though which was nice. read more

We tent camped here for the first time this (2015) Memorial Day weekend and really enjoyed the experience. We were on site 9 which looked to be one of the best tent sites, very clean and shaded, away from other campers and very quiet! - The grounds were kept up very nice - The bathrooms were cleaner than I expected - The showers were very warm (25 cents per 5 minutes) - They give you a gate pass to get in and out when you please ($5 refundable deposit) - Very friendly staff - So close to everything - York, Ogunquit, Kittery If you're craving real coffee shop coffee and a breakfast sandwich, head out to St. Joes on route 1, only a couple miles down the road, its amazing! read more

We stayed here last weekend and couldn't be happier with our choice. It's got a great small campground feel, the hosts are friendly and helpful, and it still has a small store and heated pool if you're looking for that stuff. We had a truck camper and 2 4-person tents and still fit in the smallish sites. Mostly wooded forest, they do have RV spots and rent yurts. Close to all things around York/Ogunquit/Wells. Every other campground in the area seems to be an RV farm, so this is a gem for the area. Can't wait to stay again! read more

First impressions were pretty good, as they seem to be very well organized and efficient. The sites were decent, but ours was a little on the small side. Since it was our first time, we didn't know which sites to pick....but now we have a list of a few favorites for next time. The location was perfect, and we went to both York Beach and Ogunquit. The showers and bathrooms were pretty decent, and they had outdoor sinks for doing your dishes, etc. They also allow dogs, which is nice. We'll be back next year! read more

I've been camping here for years and years and always enjoy Dixon's. Perfect for car camping near one of the East Coast's best beaches; they have sites for every preference - wooded, grassy, rv. I prefer the wooded sites and they have a number of them with just enough privacy to make you feel like you've got your own site., not as wooded and spacious as a State Park, but hey, maybe that's part of why all the states are broke! Definitely not like one of those European free for all campgrounds where you just claim some space the size of your tent! I was bummed out this year to find that they cleared out a few trees and spread gravel in my former favorite area of the campground, now it's all gravelly and not comfy and cozy anymore; but it's only a small area of the entire place. The bathrooms are just what you need for camping and kept surprisingly clean - quarters for the showers, but it's like 25 cents for three minutes, just enough to keep people from hogging. If you bring bikes Ogunquit Beach is only a four mile ride away, and you can save a bundle on parking, skip the traffic, and burn off ice cream cones on the all uphill ride back. Ma and Pa Dixon and the staff are all really nice and if you want to practice your French there's always a bunch of Quebecois around. read more

We stayed there last Labour Day and had an awesome time. Unfortunately our reservation got a little messed up, and we wound up in the tent site near the seasonal RVers. Loved the campground itself, the amenities, the lovely people who run it, the value, etc. However we found the seasonal RVers to be quite rude and disruptive during our stay. Quiet time is stated to start at 10PM, but they had loud parties until almost 2AM. Nobody wants to hear Bob Marley full blast at 1AM after a day of traveling. When we complained to management the next day we were told that it was an ongoing problem. The management was excellent, apologized profusely and promised to address the issue. The next night we were treated rudely by the seasonals, with comments being made about how they "are the ones that keep the place open." However at 10PM the owner came by and told them to quiet down and they did. Each night at quiet time we saw the owner patrol the campground, and there were no problems after that. This will not deter us from returning there again, and we plan on spending a week during the summer of 2008. We will however request a tent site well away from the Seasonal RVers! read more

Very nice campground, pull thru grassy site. We have a 37' class A. No sewer hook up, reason for only 4 stars. Nice pool, playground for the kids. Nice grassy campground, good for pets. Very nice campers we met from all over. Able to get satellite TV at our site. Friendly staff. Close to Ogunquit, ME/ Perkins Cove, lots of good places to eat and shop, Would definitely stay here again. read more

Very disappointed with this campground. As an avid camper, I have been to many campgrounds in many states and I will not be returning to Dixon's campground. I booked a site 3 weeks prior to my trip along with another couple that booked a separate site. We showed up and my reservation was nowhere to be found and they gave our site to someone else. We ended up staying on the same site as the other couple and they charged us full price for the same site even though hey had made the mistake. Needless to say I was not happy. Then after reading the paper there are a lot of little charges that are very unnecessary, such as paying for showers, that you do not have at most other campgrounds. I will not be returning to this campground. read more

We stayed at Dixons for the first time this past weekend. We had two sites, for tents. We usually go to state parks, so we were apprehensive heading to a private campground, expecting the sites to be on top of each other. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of our sites. Not as big as the state campgrounds, but bigger than we expected. (Although there are some that are small). The campground is great! The camp store is nicely stocked (and not too overpriced). The bathrooms are amazing. They must clean them multiple times a day. Same with the showers. Everyone is nice and helpful. The pool was perfect! They are putting up a yurt this year that will sleep 6. We will head back to try it out! read more

i went to Dixon's camping ground on friday August 20th. when i got there my family and I noticed that the campsite which they told us would fit 2 family sized tents , would actually barely fit 1. we got over the fact because they told us it was temporary and they would be sending us to a larger campsite. the next day comes and the campsite was even smaller. the next few days we got HORRIBLE treatment by a certain employee; Howard he said his name was. he told us that we were bothersome to everyone else, when no one complained and he told us we were "ungreatful" of his "excellent" service. MY FAMILY AND I RECOMMEND YOU KEEP LOOKING FOR A MORE SUITABLE CAMP GROUND BECAUSE THIS IS IS JUST GOD-AWFUL. read more

Our family chose this campground for a family reunion and traveled from multiple states for a long weekend. I have to say I have never camped before and after the experience with this campground I may never again. I found the employees to be among some of the rudest people I have ever encountered. I was assured on reservation that I was right across from my family. Not true, I was the only member of our party located "up the road". The "pond" advertised was behind my site, was green and smelled like a sewer. Bathroom was two plumbed no better than a outhouse facility that served the entire side of the campground. Same for the showers. After waiting all morning (until 10a) for toilet paper we were finally able to use the restroom. We had even walked to another bath house to find the two toilets there plugged. Showering was nearly impossible as we also shared only two!! A chain link fence also made a beautiful woodsy feeling on family sites, no trees separated the sites. We had a neighbor we didn't know with their tent backed up to our fireplace. We were however able to listen to their child's video, frozen. Had to laugh...let it go. The biggest complaint is the infestation of spiders, grasshoppers and bees. I woke up to 20+ spiders on the roof of my tent the first morning. Disgusting. I decided to check out early and at 9:20p the office door was locked, hours said open until 9:30 so I knocked. Rude girl said she made her own hours. Checked out never happier to leave a place behind. If you like rude people, expensive wet wood,no privacy, septic system ponds, non functional bathrooms, and being covered in every imaginable species of spiders, this is the first choice campground! read more

My husband and I just spent this past weekend at Dixon Campground, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We are accustomed to more rustic camping, and have always stayed in State Parks. So, we were a little apprehensive as we haven't had much luck staying in private campgrounds, (they're too busy, overcrowded), but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our site; not only was it woodsy, but we had quite a bit of privacy, not having any neighbors on either side of us! A walk around the campground revealed that there is quite a variety of sites, so make sure to ask for what you'd like when you make your reservations! The bathrooms & showers were very clean, well stocked and well lit at night. Also, the campground was very quiet in the evening (and we were there on a Friday/Saturday night!), all I could hear as I was falling asleep was the sound of crackling campfires. Although the campground was not on any water, there's nice pool for swimming. We especially liked the campground's location, a few miles from Long Sands, Short Sands, Nubble Light to name a few popular places (It's actually exactly 2 miles south of the Ogunquit Playhouse!)...We were happy to have a found a nice comfortable, clean place to stay so that we could discover a part of the state that we'd yet to explore. My daughter and I went fishing in Maine and stayed three nights at the Dixon's campground. We found this campground through the Internet. We liked the location (between York and Ogunquit) and there seemed to be lots of trees. We were very well greeted upon our arrival and given a card for the gate at the entrance. We had a tent site (#61) which was of reasonable size, there are some that are a little further from neighbors than others but overall, every site is quite good. Most site are very close to facilities (shower, water, etc). The bathrooms and showers are very clean, much better than most campgrounds. I like the sinks and mirrors outside, very convenient. The quiet time starts at 10 pm and was respected every night we were there. Very quiet and peaceful campground. There was a small pool which we did not try as well as a small playground for kids. This is not the best campground if you want the kids to play around. We also took a sea kayak excursion that is run by the campground. It's run by three charming young ladies, really professional and entertaining. Its definitely worth a try if you like excursions. They offer various types of outing. Overall, this was a very good campground, clean and quiet, and owners very friendly. We will definitely go back read more
