Worse, they were rude about it after I expressed my shock and surprise. They said I would "never see my money again" Then when I called my bank and made a dispute claim they sent me even more rude VM and emails saying what I was doing was unethical? "I never lose one of these" And they didn't want business with someone of my character and temperament. I knew from the comment about "not ever seeing my money again" that I wasn't dealing with a respectful business so I did not answer any of their VM or emails. I did contact my bank, attorney general, and BBB. I have traveled extensively, have rented cars, mini vans, RVs, yurts, cottages etc etc NEVER ran into anything close to this. My bank reviewed claim. I was reimbursed total deposit THROUGH my bank, not sure if company had anything to do with it since bank could clearly see that I'd never filed a dispute such as this. And that I never signed the cancellation policy form or any contract with Northeast RV. Please go through Outdoorsy.com or RVshare.com to rent RVs! People are kind, civil, AND it's cheaper!!! Northeast RV 18' trailer with all the added fees (75.00 to dump tanks at end of trip? Whaaaat?) would have been more costly than me renting including delivery and set up from 50 miles away...a 25 foot trailer with WAY more features. Just a word from the wise. Trying to help you all out. How's that for bad character and temperament? Lol. Safe travels to all!!! Have a great summer! DG

After doing more research and finding that we had no other options, we got desperate and decided to take a chance. Jim was very responsive and helpful. The automatic VW Vanagon Westfalia was very clean (about 10 times cleaner than the one we rented in Maui), fully stocked and ready to go. It also had a new Bostig engine which was something different. We experienced no breakdowns during our 800 mile roadtrip. For the negatives, the AC, radio, RPM gauge were not working but that wasn't enough for me to be upset. If you need a East Coast rental, contact Jim!

The owner, Jim Doolittle, is a super nice guy, provides you with pretty much all you need for the trip, and off you go. Sure, the campers are 30yrs old, but that's half the fun. Expect too much and you'll be disappointed, but I had a blast, enjoyed many of Maine's beautiful lakes and state parks, many roads are newly paved this year (2017) so that was a bonus. Made meals in the camper everyday if we didn't use the campfire, hung out in it at the campground after dark, and all the driving we did...it was super comfortable. I definately would give it a try if you're thinking about it, and will probably do it again next summer.

They set up the camper as they said they would, but when we walked in, there was a stench like something died. We searched everywhere for the location of the smell and tracked it to the kitchen sink. It was horrible - it appears they never drained the gray water or deodorized the tank. We didn't cook in the camper - there were only 2 of us. We just took 2 very short showers, and the tank was full, and the bathtub backed up. We called and emailed them for assistance, and they didn't email or call us back - in fact, they never returned our call. We tried to air out the camper every day to no avail. The mattress had so much "balled up" material and pilling, you could feel it from sheets and blankets. There was dust everywhere and mold on the bathroom drain. We ended up getting very sick from sleeping in the camper. My husband had to go to urgent care to get medicine. We are fit people who take care of ourselves. Our friends also rented a nicer camper (no smell and newer). They were told the fuel was full, but they ran out within a few days. We all cooked outside, so this should not have happened. This was an unfortunate and skeevy experience. I am not a person who writes reviews but will tell you DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!

If you're looking for an affordable, well-appointed, comfortable place to stay, near Maine's…read moresouthern coastal beaches, this could be an ideal choice. This charming, vintage motel + cottages is on Route 1, close to Wells and Ogunquit, and just a short drive from Kennebunk and York. I mentioned "vintage" because this is exactly the kind of vacation lodging your parents or grandparents enjoyed. Typical of that era, the rooms are cozy and face a swimming pool in the center of the property. In the early days, cute rooms like these were ideal for families planning to spend most of the day at local beaches. Also - typical of some vintage lodging - there are baseboard heaters (and a thermostat in the room), in addition to a wall-mounted a/c unit. However, the owners have done an excellent job of providing the modern features that today's guests may expect. The beds are sturdy and the bedding was immaculate, with pillows that provided both comfort and support. In addition to a microwave and mini-fridge (with a freezer compartment) our room had a cute table and chairs for relaxing, eating, or using as a desk. The wall-mounted big-screen TV was perfectly placed, and - since we travel with our own Roku - it was easy to access our favorite shows. (A Roku is not necessary for guests to enjoy a wide range of programming.) And Internet service was excellent, as well as secure. We also had a sturdy luggage rack plus a wardrobe with shelves as well as space for hanging up clothes. The water in the bathroom was nice and hot, though the water pressure in the shower varied considerably. Nevertheless, the towels - like the bedding - were top quality. I've noticed that some previous guests had commented on what they perceived as dirt in their rooms. When we arrived, our room was absolutely immaculate in every respect. What newcomers to this area may not realize is that - in vintage lodging - the door to the outside may not fit snugly. So, since The Beaches is next to Route 1, there's quite a bit of dust churned up by traffic, and some of it can drift in, especially if you leave the front door open. (Note: We didn't experience much traffic noise, and - as I'm writing this - I had to pause and listen, to even notice the sound of passing cars.) Also, the walls - being from an earlier era - are fairly thin. You may hear your neighbors. We travel with a small "white noise" generator, for times when we go to bed early. However, we'd moved to this hotel from a nearby 3-star hotel which - though recently built, and charging at least 2x more than The Beaches - had noise levels in that were unbearable. After our third night at that other hotel, we were eager to leave. All in all, though Google suggests this is a 1-star hotel, we were pleasantly surprised by how much The Beaches provides, in addition to a prime location that's convenient to everything the southern Maine coast has to offer. If you're a fan of vintage lodging, this is a great deal and a fun place to stay at alone, as a couple, or with your family.

I was a bit early, so I called the number that was provided for assistance. No response. When I did get into my room, I was so disappointed. Had the warmth & charm of a haunted house. No closet? No clock? No hair dryer? Scuffed up walls. Shower head with soap from previous guests. Toiletries in packets like ketchup instead of bottles. Rusted metal kitchen set. Furniture looks like it was bought at a yard sale. Window screen was damaged & ripped open. Wanted to sleep with the window open by was concerned about safety. (Window was right by the door.) Ended up packing all my belongings in the middle of the night & driving home. I worked for the airlines so I've seen many hotel rooms. Paid for 3 days, stayed 9 hours. This was by far the worst. So much for my vacation. Scary place.
