Went to this campground as a kid growing up with my family every summer until around age 10, but we…read morestopped going because we moved away from the area. I recently was back in town and decided to have a nostalgic stay at the campground. I called the office about a week and a half before I planned on visiting and they only had one site (#21) left. I told the manager Jack, that I'd take it! Initially only planning on visiting Tues thru Thurs, they require 4 nights minimum stay in the summer, with the reservation starting on a Sunday. So I reserved Sun thru Thurs, which was the only way to guarantee the site. My other option was to call that day I planned on arriving and hoping/praying the site was still available. It turned out better this way because I just started my vaca two days earlier. Only way to make a reservation is to call during office hours, 9am to 6pm. Both the check-in and check-out time is at 11am. The campground itself isn't that big, and I would guess there's no more than 10 sites available for weekly rentals, as it's mostly seasonal trailers/campers that occupy the remainder of the sites the whole season the campground is open. They open for the season around May 15th, and close for winter around Oct 15th. Site #21 is nestled between two permanent trailer sites, and sits low on the terrain. This means it will flood a little when it rains, but seems to dry out pretty quickly once the rain stops. It is fairly shaded by the pine trees, so it's was nice & cool during our stay. There is one main bathhouse with a men's bathroom (showers inside), a women's bathroom, and a separate women's shower room. There are also two individual bathrooms located behind the office. The showers are $.25 for 5 minutes of shower time. It's just enough time for a quick shower, but bring a 2nd quarter if you think you need a bit more time. The water is hot, which is nice as I'm used to showering w/ warm to cool water at most campgrounds, and they've added curtains to create a changing area outside each shower (new addition from when I was a kid). If camping in a tent, bring an air mattress or padding to sleep on as the ground is hard, and rocky. Every site has your standard fire ring & picnic table. If you need water for cooking, head up to the bathhouse and use the stainless steel sink outside next to the ladies room. This is also a good place to wash your dishes. Pricing is $35 per site per day for 2 ppl and one vehicle. Additional adults are an extra $10/day, kids (ages 5-17) are an extra $5/day, and parking for extra vehicles is also an extra $5/day. Cash or check only. No pets allowed. Ice sold in the office is cheaper & the bag is bigger than the ones sold up the street at the Shore Road Market (red building at fork in road). The office also sells firewood, and some individual canned soda, bottled water, candy bars & ice cream bars. Be advised there are lots of skunks (which hasn't changed since my childhood). They won't bother you, but be aware at dusk/night where you're walking and make sure to toss your trash in the dumpster each day to help avoid an overnight visit. This campground is located right along the ocean and a river. The main beach area is pretty small at high tide, but becomes a nice big area at low tide. Just bring water shoes because the ground is rocky & covered in shells/crabs at low tide. The tide also changes quick so make sure to keep an eye on your belongings when it's coming in, to make sure they don't get swept out. There's also a smaller beach closer to the bridge, and is accessible via the road just next to the office. People still jump off the bridge at high tide, which they've been doing since I was a kid. If you head towards the ocean side of the campground, where the road loops, there's another pathway that leads to the rocks overlooking the ocean & Nubble Light lighthouse. Just watch your step cause the rocks can get slippery at low tide! Also, make sure to stay off other people's sites. If you don't, they'll be sure to let you know it's 'private property'. A great little campground to stay at, with beautiful ocean views! Would def recommend!

The only problem was they did not allow fires in the evenings so my children were inside playing video games or watching TV once the mosquitoes came out to play around 6 PM. This past summer, my husband and I decided we don't want "cottage kids" we want "camping kids." We sold our cottage, bought a camper, and found the perfect home and Moody Beach Campground with manager Rick and his team. I don't know where to begin with the compliments for Rick and his entire staff. They are helpful, kind, friendly, loving, and they made us feel like we belong to part of the family that has been created at this amazing campground. Examples of this include, when I had packages delivered directly to the campground, because our primary home is in Washington DC, I was either notified about the packages immediately or they were literally dropped off at my site. Another example is when my new babysitter was NOT watching my young toddlers, two and three years old, swimming with floaties in the pool, instead she was on her cell phone texting. One of the cleaning people, brought it to my attention on the QT and I cannot thank her enough because ultimately she could've saved my children's lives by giving me this information. I was so PROUD to have guests come to my site to experience the family like atmosphere that Moody Beach Campground provides. At night, someone literally drives around in the golf cart dropping off/selling wood for people who need it. They have hayrides around the clock during the weekends. They also have a bus that takes you to the beach which is a little over a mile up the street and will pick you up at the beach to take you back. Not to mention, there are a ton activities for the kids, and amazing playground, a huge super clean pool, and the list goes on and on!! In conclusion, if you are looking for a place to call "HOME" for the summer or simply home for a weekend, or a week or two, look no further!!! If I were ever to hit the lottery for millions of dollars I would give a huge chunk to Rick (and Christy - she's sooooo awesome, and his entire team, especially the loving and friendly women who clean the cottages) because he is every camper's dream-come-true manager!!! The Bachelders worked very hard to have one of the nicest trailer parks in wells and If not southern Maine. Mr B and Mrs B started a great summer place and Mark and Sandi with the hard work of there sons and significant others continue the charge. Reading reviews of disgruntled yelpers all I can say is read your contract before signing it. There's no hidden agenda. Everything is spelled out and always has been on how the park is and how its run. It's a family park and a friendly park. If people dont abide by the rules then they will be delt with in the best way possible. As I remember alcohol was the only thing I can remember over the 30 years I was there that caused problems but where delt with professionally and swiftly by park management. When your in a trailer setting like beach acres and your a seasonal or daily renter you have to be respectful and neighborly to all around you. They have camp rules for a reason. To make things nice for all involved. In mine and my famlies 30 plus years there we met fantastic people and we gained lifelong friends and that even included the wonderful people who run Beach acres. They have a great business because generally there's a waiting list to get in there. Unfortunately my folks passed last year but the best days of my parents lives as well as my extended family was at beach acres. We have the best memories ever.They had rules then and my whole family abided by them whether it was for a day,a weekend,a week or a whole season. I'm glad we had the privilege of doing business with such a great family business. My parting comment to yelpers if you want to go here for however long.....know the rules and fully read and understand there contract if your a seasonal renter. There's no hidden secrets..Its just pretty straight forward... 3 sets of my extended family where seasonal renters and we never once had a issue or a problem. because we knew there contract and we new the park rules. I am confused reading some of the 1reviews tho. Yes everyone is very close together but it works for the area. Pool is decent and there is so much to do close by: Drakes beach is a short drive or bike ride($5/hr parking) and Wells Nat'l Estuarine is a must for nature lovers. Great biking trails near by...I bike everywhere even to Kennebunk. Showers are free and private. Laundry room is available and well maintained as is the restroom. Never an issue with the septic for the trailer. Campfires are allowed. WiFi is definitely the worst, not enough band with for the capacity-don't expect much-I use my hot spot. Sad to read the poor reviews but it's also a campground not the Waldorf Astoria.

Oh geez where do I begin. SWAMP SIDE NIGHTMARE…read more the "river" is a 5 foot wide mud trench on the side of a major roadway and train track. Blocked by 20 feet of overgrown brush. Don't look! It's a mosquito breeding site. Quiet time is 11 but the train blows all night. "BE QUIET THE TRAINS COMING" First of all, the man in the office is so rude and unprofessional he should be fired immediately. And if he is the owner, he has no business working with families. No soap in the bathroom No hot water in showers Actually there's no hot water lines going to showers, that building was put there so he meets handicapped requirements by the state. A ramp leading to a shower. But they never even put a hot water line in. The kids were swimming in the pool, my step daughter grabbed ahold of the saftey line and it broke. He drove his golf cart over to our site and complained about it like she did it on purpose. She's seven.. I had to talk to him in a "good dog" voice to make him leave. "It's okay to be frustrated sir she's just a kid" literally... He finally grunted and drove away. Then he tied the "safety" rope back together and put it back and called it a day. SO SAFE Then he'd drive back and forth giving us the stink eye stopping to say he didn't approve of the twisted tea cans on the picnic table. "Im concerned about the alcohol". We were on vacation and we're drinking malt. Minding our own business. Nothing in the rules about that. He had just decided he didn't like us I think. The campsites are super small. Leaving barely any room for tents and truck, yet you're charged 60/night. He comes over AGAIN and says "you know someone will be arriving for that campsite right " in a very rude tone. No hello or anything. how would we know that? He asks us to move our truck to the site across from ours. So we do, and get a bolt in our tire. If I was more bitter I'd say the jerk did it on purpose. The playground is covered is small sharp stones and I told my husband that I think it's because he hates children. And enjoys listening to them cry. He's a monster Don't go here Oh and a bag of ice is 5 bucks, but he's never in the office to sell it to you, so you best go to Cumberlands. Our family had a wonderful time camping out, going to old orchard beach, salmon falls, and cascade falls, but SWAMP SIDE NIGHTMARE had no part in our wonderful time.
