We stayed here the last few days of June '13. The reservation process: Easy - Called the phone number, talked to a lady who took down my CC number and immediately charged me for the first night. The location: Not as far from Wells Beach as the maps make you think it is. Yes, there are campgrounds that are closer, but not by much... and then the reason we picked this was because those closer ones were all booked! The campground, in our opinion looked like a trailer park if you look at it from the gates/road. We sat in our car and contemplated on what we are getting into for a few minutes! The checkin process: Was hilarious. The caretaker/owner is ex-military... and he will make it known to you. He's very friendly... not charming, but very straightforward and thorough in explaining the rules and ways to contact him! His weather report was spot on (and contradictory to what the news channels forecasted... he attributed that to - his days in the army!) Anyway... after about 15 minutes of smalltalk we finally got our access card, got to know our camp site location, and we were on our way. The site: We got site #92. It was one of the more remote sites AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! So, the camp/tent sites are at the far end of the campground - which was fine with us (being as far away from the trailers as possible). Maybe it was the heavy rains the night before and the fact that it was to rain that night, but there were just two more occupied tent sites... the rest of them were open. The camp site does indeed have a great tree cover and the site is perfectly level. We noticed the water runoff patterns from the night before and set up tent keeping that in mind. The noise level: Other than the train that rumbled by the first night (and it seemed distant), there was minimal traffic noise. There are bugs... big, persistent mosquitoes. But I wouldn't hold that against them... That's what I've had to deal with in MainE! The things that we weren't happy about: 1. The bathroom/toilets are TINY! I mean, a 6' 2" person's knees would be jammed against the door if you were using the toilet... and you'd graze your elbows if you didn't tuck your arms in while turning around in the shower! They were clean for sure, but the size of the facilities makes me wonder if it was designed for Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. 2. The fireplace was a hole in the ground lined with a metal circle. This after how the caretaker bragged about not having to put the fires out at night because his fireplaces are awesome... was a disappointment. Add to that the fact that the wood we got from the office was expensive AND DAMP! I had to use a whole box of fire starter pieces (from Kittery Outlets) to get a smoky burn going the next night! I'd stay here again for the well maintained, level, soft pine grounds and the tree cover... but I hope they renovate their bathrooms accommodate taller adults! read more

This place is an amazing family owned establishment. It has been in the same family since it was created! They are the most wooded campground I have seen in the wells/kennebunk area and I love that you are still less than two miles from the beach. The owners are super friendly, they offered to give me advice on any restaurants, help me avoid tourist traps and have a great meal! When I wanted to venture into town to a couple different places they took a map and used different colored markers to route out every trip for me! The tent site was clean, with lots of tree coverage and QUIET! The owners talk about how they do rounds at night to ensure it is quiet and relaxing for guests, they must not have been kidding because it was so peaceful! The bathrooms are a little dated but what do you expect for camping in the woods! I love it and will definitely be back! read more

We stayed at Stadig fourth of July weekend 2006. We had a great site with electricity and shelter over the picnic table. The staff were wonderful, kind, friendly, and eager to please. The only problem we had was that the bathroom facilities were a little dated, and they had next to nothing for amenities. We found huge man eating mosquitoes in the shower. (yuck!) The club house was locked and looked like it had nothing in it when we peeked in the window. They do not have a pool, and the playground looked as if it was the same one I played in during the early 80's. They didn't even carry feminine hygene products in the office store. They really should consider making some renovations to the place, especially to the bathhouses. Maybe add a pool, and some games and a TV in the clubhouse. read more

This is the least family friendly campground I've ever been to. Over the course of four days here, we were repeatedly harrassed by the owners, namely because our kids laughter was supposedly disturbing other campers. When we spoke with those campers, they denied having complained. The owners patrolled the grounds like a POW camp. Any perceived infraction such as stepping on the leaves elicits threats of "ejection." We were accused of using wood found on the grounds for firewood, when, in fact, we had brought a pickup truck full of firewood. Everything in the campground was dated. The bathrooms were the most disgusting I've ever seen. Black mold, uncleaned, ginormous spiders, roaches, etc. Just filthy. I would recommend avoiding this place at all cost. There are better alternatives which really do welcome families with children. Beware of the owners writing their own positive reviews. read more

We spent 4 nights at the Stadig Campground in Wells, Maine. I spent every summer in Wells growing up, so I was really looking forward to it. I was a bit hesitant when we booked, only because there is no pool or other formal activities. When we pulled in, there was a slight issue with the site they had planned to put us on - it was too small for our trailer. However, the woman working in the office worked with the owner, Mike, to get us a different site, which ended up being great - even had a blacktop pad that was an excellent feature. The property is clean and quiet. If you want alot of activity and really need a pool, this isn't the place for you. If you want a clean, relaxing, no-frills campground, with a great location, Stadig is for you! I also want to mention that we had some problems with our trailer after pulling in, and Mike, the owner, and another gentleman, Les, were awesome! They even worked on our camper, and got us in touch with a serviceman who came on site and fixed our problem within 24 hours. - at a more than fair price. We will stay here again when traveling to Wells. Thank you Mike and Patty! read more

I started searching for The Perfect Campsite when I decided to take my children camping for the 1st time. We wanted something close to York Beach since this is a favorite spot but wanted also something affordable. It was also important that we felt like we are "really camping" as opposed to pitching our tent next to an RV that had more amenities then home. This was also one of the only places I could find that didn't allow dogs. We are actually a family of animal lovers and we all love Dogs but if you've ever stayed at campground where dogs are allowed and woken up to the smell of dog feces you'd realize how important this is, and/or the sound of a dog barking all night. When we 1st started camping there the first thing we noticed is the set up. The tent sites are towards the back versus mixed in with the RV's which sounds logical enough except again, you'd realize the importance if you'd stayed at other campgrounds where you're pitching a tent next to an RV. I have 3 kids who thoroughly enjoy the playground, riding their bikes, and just playing and running about. If I wanted them sat in front of a TV I could keep them home. As far as updates and a pool, sure maybe a pool would be nice but we like to spend our days at the beach, which are minutes from here. If you're looking for pools, TV' etc a motel is best. As far as the bathrooms, there are a couple and some are in better shape then others but I wasn't expecting much since we were camping. As far as updates I'm sure if I spent more money elsewhere I could find something "more up to date" but then I'd miss out on all the charm and the wonderful people at this family owned campsite. read more

We stayed at Stadig this summer. We went up to scout the place out before we stayed there-the sites we were given were perfect. We had 2 good-sized sites & that was the only thing that was really good. The restrooms were barely adequate, as was the shower. If you used the toilet, you had to bring your own papertowels after you washed your hands. Restroom stalls are very small-there are only two in the facility near the playground for each sex and only one shower in that facility for each sex. I would not describe any of it as 'clean'. Rundown would be more the explanation I would give. The men said we don't know what dirty is-you should see the men's room. The folks that run it are okay, but talk to you like they're nuns and you're their students-very condescending. We were driven out early by rain & the owners made no mention of crediting any of our money back to us. I did not ask, I was just happy to be heading home. And in case you're wondering, we have been camping in that area before with much nicer facilities, but waited too long to book this year-won't make that mistake again! read more

I was very disappointed by Stadig Mobile park and campground. Although the campground is well kept, the sites are very close to each other. The part that was intolerable was the owners. The price is not worth the dirty looks in and out of the site nor the "patrols". The owners ride around in their golf cart scolding people for obsolete issues. It was very unpleasant and disruptful to peaceful evenings. The owners threatened to charge us an extra day for leaving 20 minutes after the checkout time of 11. I would not recommend this campsite unless you like dirty looks and scoldings. The owners need to work on customer service and treating their guests with respect. read more

Stayed our last night before coming home. Not a bad place. The biggest problem was the very small bathroom/shower facilities. Very out dated. Need to be completely re-done. Also I would have preferred the camp sites to be grass, or concrete not sand. Sites were big enough. read more

My husband & I happened onto this campground out of desperation when we wanted to camp on laborday weekend at last minute & ournormal haunts were all.full. my son found it on the internet. What a find. Its downthe quite end of wells so traffic is at a minnimum. We tented there for 2 seasons & now are on our second season as a seasonal site. We love the trees & hawks. Wild blueberries. The owners are helpful & friendly. We have become part of an extended family with the other campers. Yes it doesn't have a pool but it has an old fashioned camping feel. My grandkids love it there. They ride their bikes and play in the field or playground. They've made lots of friends & can't wait to go back. Its relaxing & a real at home feeling. So if you like staying in that kind of atmosphere & go to all the places you love for all the action this is the place for you. Nice place to have as a base to go off exploring the sights all around you. Three thumbs up from us read more
