We are happy with our decision to hire Joe to provide audio/DJ/MC services for our wedding this past summer. He was the DJ at one of our friends' weddings and he did an amazing job (we danced all night long), so we knew we wanted him to do our wedding as well. Joe is a very seasoned DJ and MC with many years of experience under his belt. He has worked with our specific venues a lot in the past (the SB Courthouse and El Paseo), so we knew we could trust him with all the logistical aspects. Prior to the wedding, we put together playlists for each part of the day and filled out his online forms, and then we did a phone call with him a few days before the wedding to run through everything together. On wedding day, he absolutely killed it. During the ceremony, the audio system was set up perfectly and he timed all the music cues correctly. And during the reception, the dance floor was packed all night long and he did such a great job with hyping up the crowd. Also during our grand entrance and our first dance (which was an upbeat song), he kept the crowd engaged and elevated the energy in the room which was such a nice touch. He honored our playlists while still putting his own unique spin on things, and stuck to our "do not play" list as well. I had several of our guests tell us how great of a job he did! Our only reason for leaving off one star is there were a few moments during the booking process that left us feeling a bit frustrated. During the initial booking, we only booked the essentials: ceremony sound + reception DJ/MC services. But I was curious how much uplighting rental would cost in case we wanted to consider it / could find room in the budget for it down the road. He gave us a price and we thought about it. A month later I reached out to him again to confirm the uplighting, and then he responded with an even higher cost. I had to remind him of the cost he initially told me, and had to negotiate him back down to that cost. He said that the original cost was only valid at the time of booking, but he never communicated that. Separately, closer to the wedding date I realized we did not have any dance floor lighting, so I reached out to him about the rental cost for that. He gave us a pretty steep cost for his most basic option (wash lights). I told him it was out of budget for us and nevermind. He then was quick to offer us 50% off, which still was out of budget for us so I asked if he could bring the cost down further, to which he agreed. I was grateful he was able to accommodate our needs, but couldn't help but feel like his pricing was a bit arbitrary. In the end, I am very glad I booked the lighting with him as it really elevated brought the vibe of the space to the next level. But be advised, you should have a good idea of all the services you want to book with him during the initial reach out as you will save money that way as opposed to adding on services later. read more

He explains the process with music selection and then kind of gives you your time and space to collect everything and then does a meeting to go over everything right before the wedding.
