Jon (DJ Gatsby) was fantastic to work with for our wedding in NYC at City Winery. I (bride) work in the event planning industry and professionalism is very important to me. Jon was the most organized and collaborative of the bunch. (No offense to our venue, our decorator and our photographer...) Jon really took the time to understand our tastes, the atmosphere we wanted to create, and the flow of events. We never felt obligated to spell out every song he should and should not play. We were lucky to get DJ Gatsby recommended to us by a friend, who works as a wedding planner. He was professional, friendly, accomodating, and talented! From the day we hired him, he was ahead of the game with planning his part of our special day. He has plenty of experience and it shows. We were doing the planning for our wedding, so his help was much appreciated (and needed). He asked us for all the things he needed and wasn't too pushy about it. DJ Gatsby (aka Jon Simon) is an absolute EXPERT at his craft! We hired Jon to be the DJ for our NYC wedding, and he was great. Here are some thoughts and takeaways: - Jon knows his music. He jumped on board with our plans very early in the planning process, and wanted to make sure he executed exactly as we had imagined. Long before we had even thought about the details, Jon was prepping and making sure he would have everything ready! - Pinning my now-husband down with music requests was incredibly difficult (my husband's fault, not Jon's!). After many email exchanges where my husband didn't really give much detail about the songs he did and didn't want, Jon eventually got through to him another way - out to dinner! We went to dinner, Jon brought a notebook, and as he asked questions and got my husband to ramble on about what he liked and didn't like, Jon wrote it all down and made sure he knew exactly what we wanted. This was especially important since we didn't have a dance floor. It was more of a backyard-BBQ wedding, so he needed to know how much dance-music we wanted and what other kinds of music we wanted to play throughout the day. - The music and vibe that Jon put together for the day was 100% perfect. We had guests coming up to us telling us how much they loved the music - it was a perfect mix of popular songs and unique songs that had a good-vibe feeling. - On top of everything else, Jon CARES. He concerned himself with all the details very early on, and went out of his way to make sure that we would have the best sound and music possible while staying aware and worrying about not blowing our budget. And on the day-of, when the weather turned sour and the A/V guys started packing up the speakers, Jon made sure he still had one available and stayed up-and-running with his equipment for one of the ceremonial dances we still had left to play - he went out of his way to make sure we were happy and everything went as planned. I cannot stress enough how absolutely AMAZING Jon was with our entire wedding experience. Not only was he truly as professional as the come, but made the our NYE 2014 wedding reception the party of the year. He has an incredible music library and then added anything we wanted on top of that for a completely personalized night of music. We had a 20 x 30 dance floor that was packed and even over flowing all night long because of Jon's perfect song selection. He also live mixes and played several mash-ups that really made the night.
