I held a 20 person party for my wife's 40th birthday. It was a mix of both adults and kids and I decided to get a magician at the last minute. After looking on Yelp and getting a few quotes, I realized that most of the magicians that had a large number of reviews were waaaay above my price point. I saw that Eric had 3 solid reviews, but, of course, you never know what you will get when you pick someone with such a limited number of reference points. Eric was very engaged and was happy to work with our schedule and his pricing was extremely reasonable compared to his peers, so I gave him a shot. HE DID AN AMAZING JOB. It was an hour long show and I was surprised that he wanted to come 30 minutes early to set up and prepare considering the reasonable pricing. He had a great outfit that the kids loved. He then did a 30-40 minute show for both the adults and the kids, which engaged everyone. I have never seen these 12 kids (Age 2 - 13) all sit in the same spot mesmerized for that long... The adults also loved every moment. At the end of the first 30 minute sketch he had some wands to give out to a few kids who participated and taught them all how to do a magic trick from the show - which was a really nice tough. I hadn't seen any magicians do something like that before. [My advice to Eric would be to offer to bring more wands for every kid for an extra charge]. The kids all loved it and were practicing well after he left. He then took a 5 minute break and did a great show where he made my wife (the birthday girl) the star of the show. I won't give away any spoilers, but it was really cute. We took video and people have loved it on her Facebook page. Finally, he brought the adults in a circle around him and he did a series of really cool card parlour tricks. We absolutely loved every second! When he was done I literally paid him 2x of what he was asking. He was worth every penny and (sorry everyone) I even told him that he should charge more as he is pricing himself way below market given what he brings to the table. If you don't know, he has immigrated from Shanghai so English is not his first language - BUT we thought he did an excellent job. The show was fully in English and there were no issues at all. It's always a good sign when the guests ask you for his contact information afterwards. I can't say enough great things about him!!!! For the record, I did not know Eric at all in any way before I hired him for this job. I've faded from Yelp a bit so I don't write as many reviews as I have before, but he was so good I felt compelled to write one. read more
