We went to the Xmas Spectacular at the House of Yes on Sun, Dec 22, 2024, 6:00 - 9:00 PM in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn right after a show by Company XIV. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We enjoyed it, but it is a bit "wacky" and not overly professional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The story line was silly and a bit hard to follow and hear at times, but it was still very fun and entertaining, overall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our favorite part was the two aerialists dressed as naughty nuns. That whole act and accompanying music was sexy AF![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a few people with extraordinary talent and several who are just having fun while performing, but don't necessarily have any formal training in anything (kind of felt like a community theater group or a group of like-minded friends performing).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is nudity, crude language and concepts, anti-religious, and politically progressive themes. We loved it, but it might bother your grandma. No kids allowed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We bought (2) "Premium Seats" for $213, inclusive of fees. I recommend getting the premium seats, but the theater is very small, so not necessary at all[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Take a look at my pics for perspective. I think Premium is basically any front row seat to the stages. There are signs on the seats denoting which are which and you seat yourself where you want within your level, on a first come, first served basis. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dress fun...it's a wacky group.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Follow @houseofyesnyc on instagram for event updates. Arrive early to grab a cocktail in their front room before you are admitted into the theater. The bar takes both card & cash. They have non-alcoholic drinks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]YES, there is an after show dance party.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can bring cash to tip the performers, but it was not obvious that many did, so don't feel obligated if that's a concern. Photos and videos are encouraged and so is tagging them @houseofyesnyc on socials. No flash!! I suggest to combine this with either a show at Cocktail Magique or Company XIV, as they are both AMAZING, a minute walk away, and similar in the sense of being "adult" oriented.

House Of Yes is such a gorgeous place to attend an event. I went to a burlesque show there, several nights ago. The atmosphere was dark, velvety and vintage. Chairs were set up around the stage in a way that ensured that every seat was the best seat in the house. House Of Yes looks like it may have been a theater or play house in the olden days. It's nicely maintained and trimmed in so many gorgeously gawdy, lights and frills. There's an enclosed patio area that patrons are allowed to smoke in. There are also a few giant Roman statues out there to keep you company. I look forward to attending more events at this space. I didn't indulge in any of the bar offerings. I was told that the drinks are pretty weak, unfortunately. Still a great place to have a fun night.

    Glitterbox in NYC!

I had heard of HoY for a while, and when I saw Glitterbox was coming to town I figured it was worth planning a trip. They released free tickets for early arrival, so we were there around 10:30pm and there was no line, even though there was already a few people inside. The venue is adorable, cute decor and lots of disco balls. They have coat check, and a few different areas. Bartenders were quick and nice, and sound was great. Plus the dancers were amazing. A great night, even if we left early. Plus side, great food trucks outside!

We came to House of Yes for their Dirty Circus on a Saturday night. It was a great 2 hour plus intermission show. Our event was hosted by Pixel the Drag Jester, who was very funny. I loved her rendition of the wicked witch. The show was sexy and fun with performers who were incredibly talented and did some amazing stunts. My favorite part was the Aerialist duo, who performed twice during the show. The drinks were ok. I did like the Oaxacan drink and the frozen strawberry margarita. TIP: The popcorn was naked and bland if you don't use the butter and salt provided on the counter;) I loved the eccentric decor of the place and how they decorated the bathroom stalls. At times, they have different stalls in front. Today, it was a beauty bar. Other times, it has been a tattoo artist. After the show you can stay and dance in the club which becomes busy after 12am:) It has become more touristy after the New York Times article that it was the #2 party place at that time(I think around 2020).

This was a knee slapping good time. I had a fabulous time. All the acts we're good and the seating was excellent!! They have a bar but the drink could have been better at those prices! Overall I had a very good time and will be back for another show

Best venue for a bit of everything. Great DJs most nights. Can get slammed outside waiting to get in, but worth the wait. Solid tunes.

Do they allow photo or video recording on the premises?

Yes! A huge smoking area that also has a bar!

Is it mandatory to be dressed according to whatever theme the club is hosting? Can I come in with another costume on or will I be denied entry?

They welcome everyone no matter what you wear.

I dont see a party listed on the calendar for the Sunday night I'm in town, is HOY open on Sunday nights?

We were literally in front of the stage. If you buy a seat and not a table you must go to bar and order whatever drinks you like. The drinks are fairly priced (had goose island on draft all night). Now let's assess the show. It starts with this quirky MC that comes out and introduces his quirky self and the performing aerialist and burlesque dancers. All of the burlesque dancers were very talented and they all had different personalities. You had the happy one, the sassy one, the fun one, and the evil one lol. The aerialists were very talented and disciplined as well. The Brazilian girl kicked ass! Now to make the night even more interesting I was volunteered on the stage by my gf for a little competition to win a free drink. I will keep the details of what I had to do to myself but I ended winning a free drink on stage. Overall I had a great night and the staff was very friendly and interactive. I would definitely come here in a big group or with a significant other. There are also plenty of things to do in the area such as Brooklyn bridge park. FYI look out for Groupon and LivingSocial deals.

I started receiving emails that some of the performers transitioned from Galapagos to Below the Bridges and welcomed the opportunity to check it out. The host, bastard Keith was raunchy as always. He worked the audience and while entertaining, his entire performance was less scandalous than something you'd see at the slipper room. Sometimes it's more fun when things are eluded to than blatant, outright perversion.. Jenny Rocha and her troupe exude class, talent and skill. All of their lineups were engaging and appealing, especially the "hospital/surgery" performance. I was snickering the entire time! The rest of the performances were professional, all with some form of appeal and talent. The venue space is fantastically lit but, a little uncomfortable. The Aeriel/ribbon performers looked precariously close to the tables. We were awkwardly seated under the stairs at the end of the back row. As the stage manager was moving props next to me, I felt cramped between the bottom of the stairs and the wall. Additionally, I had to constantly reposition and myself so I could see the acts that weren't performed directly on stage. In short, I couldn't easily see the show - and for once in my life it wasn't because of any vertical disadvantage. While a table certainly would have been more cozy, and had a much better view, I didn't feel the $50 minimum per person (in addition to the ticket) was worthwhile. I also didn't want to be forced to eat there considering the plethora of dinner options across the east river... Doors open at 8:30, but it's essentially dead until 9:10.

I came here yesterday with my friends to go see MC Jin and it was a sold out venue. The main stage was pretty lit especially the lit up sign on stage. When MC Jin came on stage there was a huge standing ovation. I had a good time with his material and I admired his enthusiasm that did not let me down nor did I ever got bored. He kept the audience going on and alive. So I wish Second City had more food options because it just got 4 items for food. You got pickles, hummus, and fries for appetizers and only one entree on the menu, which is a burger with fries. That's not a lot of food options. My friends and I got fries and hummus to share. The portions were large for sharing. The hummus included pita bread, cucumbers, red bell peppers, and carrots. Pretty filling. Now with the drinks, Second City had a huge list. I ended up getting Learn Chinese cocktail, which is exclusively for the MC Jin venue. I was disappointed at the contents and how much was in my glass. They did not fill it up to the top. It was like 2/3s of the cocktail in the glass when they served it to me. I was so shocked at how little it was. It also did not get me hooked. It felt like nothing although it did taste fruity. I should have gotten a draft beer or something else instead.

I'm older and wiser now, so I'm the person who brought and shared mosquito repellent. It's a "combined live-work space and presentation arena for international artists across multiple disciplines". Ice cold bubbly on a balmy summer's day with the Hounds, 2 DJs and a light show. On my Top 10 list of nights-out for sure. The artwork inside the residence made me wish I had Patron-level kind of money to drop. There were quite a few pieces by the founder Sol Kjøk that I was really smitten with. I'm name dropping one Danish director and a Norwegian artist... add my fascination with Scandinavian furniture, I have a bit of a thing going on. Given the location, not too far from the G and not too close to residential buildings, you can experience the roof deck entertainment space to its fullest. There were a few plastic chairs about, but the best view was from the rooftop ledge. Full Manhattan views to the West, the lovingly lit "Shit Tits" sewage treatment plant of Greenpoint to the East. The coolest, raw, rooftop venue reminiscent of my beloved old gritty NYC. I am looking forward to hitting it again.
