From the very first email I exchanged with Solange she was unbelievably kind, patient, and very on top of things (which, trust me on this, is exactly what you want in all your wedding vendors). She proactively reached out at every turn to make sure she was 100% certain she knew the exact timeline of all of the day's events so that everything could run smoothly. And it did! Aside from being a wonderful person to work with, and an INCREDIBLE vocalist, Solange's joy is infectious so if you're looking for all the right vibes on your big day, Hip Control is the right choice! She even coordinated with the band to have them learn a song my dad wrote me 20 year ago and play it as a surprise father daughter dance. As for the rest of the band? I pretty much knew they would be the ones to play at the wedding ceremony based on the samples they have recorded on their website. My picks were "Flightless Bird", "Fools Rush In" and "I'm Yours." Since I hired them only for the ceremony portion, it was pretty easy to work with them. We never met in person until the day of but we communicated via e-mail and phone conversations, which were very prompt and concise. We gave them a list of songs (from the song list they have on their website) and we also asked them for recommendations on the flow from processional to recessional and they really helped us put it all together. They were also able to learn a couple of songs which were not on their list but which we wanted played on our wedding. They were able to learn them. Our guests were so impressed by them and I often listen to the recording from our wedding to bring me back to the day and to remember how professional Art-Strings was. If your reaction is "Meh...couldn't I get that same variety from a DJ?", then I think you should keep reading. Think about any wedding you've been to. What do you remember? Centerpieces? Probably not. Food? Maybe. Music? Definitely. Music is such a huge part of people having fun at weddings. If you have a bad band, people likely won't have as good a time. DJ's are certainly fine. But, for me, there's nothing better than live music at a wedding. And, for my money, there's not a better live band than Mixtape. I'm in a band, so I'm super picky when it comes to other bands....especially for my own wedding. I was excited by how many different styles of music they could play. I knew that the parents/aunts/uncles would enjoy the older stuff that they could play, and that my friends would appreciate the current music they offer too.
