The music selection was perfect, blending crowd favorites that everyone loved. She took the time to understand the vibe we wanted, ensuring every transition between songs was seamless. We had our destination wedding in New York. We communicated with the owner who was our DJ via Zoom. She was warm, fun, and very knowledgeable! Carol helped us to put everything together and made our wedding planning really easy and we had no stress at all. On the day of our wedding, she was very early and made sure everything went according to our plans. We never had to worry about anything, she had everything covered. The music!!! She knew exactly whet to play and read the dance floor perfectly. She filled in our song list with perfect companion music. Spot on! We hired DJ Carol for a song release party for an up and coming act that I manage and produce. This job required a DJ and MC that could not only set the tone for the evening with great song selection and room-reading skills, but one who could also help to facilitate the sort of tight itinerary that are commonplace with high production entertainment events such as this one. She delivered. The music volume hit that sweet spot where it was pleasantly loud enough to set the party vibe and keep our guests dancing and in good spirits, but also just moderate enough to allow for personal conversation without ever having to strain to hear or be heard. This consideration for the attendees is such an important intangible. Done right, and you'll never have to hear complaints about volume. Instead, all we received were compliments and praise about the great music selection; a selection that DJ Carol put together herself. Another important intangible was the excellent communication about specific requirements and preferences that I had with Carol. She was refreshingly super pleasant, articulate, and accommodating about the details that were required. It was like talking to an ol' friend who happened to be a seasoned pro, who you honestly just felt and knew would be completely trustworthy. And, this is coming from me, a perfectionist with the tendency to, dare I say, micromanage at times. In other words, when I spoke about the details for this event with DJCarol, I knew that this, DJing, was one less thing that I had to worry about. Priceless. Thank you Carol. They were just wonderful! kept us dancing all night long!

Carol nearly ruined our wedding. Do not hire her as a DJ. We have seen her post fake reviews by current employees. Most of the positive reviews for Carol cannot be trusted. If you are thinking of hiring her, ask for references from the past 6 months/year and also ask to see her DJ in person. Carol did not play the majority of songs on our list, ones that were VERY important to both of us. Ones that we agreed she would play both in writing and on the phone. She also repeated at least four different songs. Additionally, the versions of the songs she downloaded were often not the original version, some were radio edits (even though we agreed to having explicit versions play later in the night) and some were just weird covers obviously not by the original artist that we listed. It was like the bad karaoke version of wedding music. She obviously did not preview any of this music and didn't even have the majority of the songs on our list ready to play. She also did not know how to do song transitions. They were odd, abrupt and sometimes there were pockets of silence in between. For our cake cutting, she did not have our song ready to play. This caused a huge delay, large period of silence and we ended up having to plug one of our friend's phones in (something she also didn't know how to do). She also did not seem to know how to work her own computer or sound system. Due to the fact that we had to constantly come over to tell her that she was repeating songs and ask that she play songs from our list, we lost track of time. Couple that with the time lost trying to get our cake song to play, we didn't have an opportunity to dance with our parents. Something we will never get back. We only had one day to make this a happy occasion and we spent a lot of time and effort putting together a music list that was important to us. We spent multiple phone calls with Carol outlining everything and she adhered to maybe 20% of what we agreed to. We made the best of it, enjoyed our day and were grateful for having everyone together to celebrate. It was very sad and disappointing to us though that a big part of our day was focused on Carol. If you are thinking of hiring Carol, save your money and just plug your iPhone in instead. Carol & Beledo are both extremely unprofessional and have been terrible to deal with. We don't want what happened to us to happen to anyone else. read more

We had Carol DJ our wedding and she was amazing! She was so attentive to the music my wife and I wanted for the evening, and she knocked it out of the park. Not only was Carol focused on her work, but she was beyond friendly with us. Carol wanted to be more than just "the DJ," - she wanted to be an integral part of our wedding. We both felt like she got to know us on a personal level so that she could put together the perfect eveningfor us and our guests. And the evening was all the more special thanks to Beledo and the other live musicians. We had a trio play for the ceremony and it sounded absolutely beautiful from the processional to the reccesional. It set the mood for the night, and Beledo's piano music during the cocktail hour was the perfect backdrop. We can't say enough about how great Carol and Beledo were. Words cannot express how grateful and husband and I are to have worked with Carol. She is truly one of a kind: she is caring, attentive to your ideas and instructions, thoughtful about the music she selects, flexible, and, above all, and incredibly kind and reassuring person who will quiet any last-minute anxieties you have and make sure you have the wedding of your dreams. When we asked her to make specific edits to our first dance, she did them perfectly; when my mom surprised her with extra speeches at the last minute, she incorporated them seamlessly into the evening; when we asked her to play our ceremony at the last minute, she did, and she did it so well, and for such a reasonable price. Anytime we emailed or texted her, she got back to us immediately. She collaborated with our event coordinator to make sure the evening moved smoothly. She is the paragon of professionalism and kindness, and even some of my friends went to compliment her during the ceremony on the way she paced the evening and kept everyone on the dance floor. We used A Starry Night to provide Michael (our DJ) and Joan Capra's Quartet as our wedding ceremony musicians. We interacted with Carol Moore, the owner very frequently and she was an absolute pleasure. When our first DJ, Gabrielle had to cancel as she was expected to deliver her baby around the time of our wedding, Carol expertly introduced us to Michael who was amazing. On the day of our wedding, everything went seamlessly between the ceremony musicians and Michael arriving far in advance to set everything up. As an amateur DJ, I was quite particular about who we chose to DJ our wedding and Michael did not disappoint! His song choice and DJing skills were excellent. Further, unlike many other wedding DJs, Michael went over the exact timeline of our event with us and only announced what we asked / what was necessary - no over-talking here! Carol was awesome, not just on our wedding day, but all throughout the planning process. She was open minded about with the ideas we had for the ceremony and reception, and she was super accommodating in having several conversations discussing them. We threw some curveballs her way and she she didn't miss a beat. For the ceremony, the violinist, cellist, and guitarist she arranged were perfect. Beledo is an incredible musician and he also played piano during our cocktail hour. For the reception, Carol set the right tone during dinner and maintained a great flow during dancing. What was really upsetting about this whole situation was how it was handled in the aftermath of the wedding. Carol called me a few Saturdays ago and asked for two minutes of my time to discuss my Yelp review. She did not try to reach out to me any time before that, which means, she didn't approach us at the end of the wedding (which is understandable because we were mingling and saying our goodbyes to our guests, but if she really wanted to, she could have), or even via email, which up until the wedding, we had a great rapport with frequent correspondence back and forth. To be frank, I don't think she would have reached out to me if she had not seen my Yelp review. Back to the phone call... our two minutes warped into nearly 40 minutes(!), and it was largely a rebuttal of all the points I made in my review. There was a very faint apology, but mainly Carol felt it was unfair to pin Any of the fault on her, instead, she directed the blame at the foot of the venue and specifically on the Maitre D' as well as my bridal attendant. I understood her need to defend herself, but in so doing, she threw others under the bus without taking responsibility. As a professional with decades of experience, I would assume she racked up all the skills to overcome very common obstacles that a DJ might run into at a wedding, such as lack of visibility of the entrance door to the ballroom where the bridal party walks in. She kept saying how she wasn't "ten feet tall" which is a moot point, because most people aren't. The point is to anticipate the issues you might encounter and work around them. Either ask the venue to provide a stool or a chair, or simply ask guests who are blocking your view, to clear a path so you can see the door. We had a large party, about 200 people, but it certainly isn't the largest wedding I'm sure she has performed at. I didn't think it would be overwhelming, but apparently it was. The mishap over the cake-cutting, I discovered, wasn't the first time where the DJ started the song in advance of the cake being ready or an announcement being clearly heard by all the guests. I read in some wedding wire reviews (and even another Yelp review), that this also happened to some of her other clients. She mentioned that maybe she should have "shouted" the announcement, which I took as a passive-aggressive remark, and responded that that wouldn't have been necessary, that at the very least, you only needed to be audible since we weren't exactly in a library setting. Speaking of Wedding Wire, I didn't want to post a mixed review, as a kind gesture since most of their reviews are largely positive, but I decided I still wanted to share my opinion on Yelp where there are much less reviews. She seemed appreciative of this, but still unsatisfied. I have to say, my guests did not have very nice things to say about the DJ's performance. These are their ACTUAL comments: "...we loved your wedding but your DJ... did a... terrible job. Announced the wrong names at the wrong times. She played the same songs several times. We had an extensive conversation at our table related to how terrible her performance was." - Rich "I think you need to post the review on wedding wire. She shouldn't be calling you either unless she is offering you an apology and some of your money back. You have a lot of patience for giving her 40 minutes of your time." - Natasha "Definitely post on wedding wire... I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I wouldn't have picked up the phone" - Linh "We sat right by her and let's just say there was no effort on her part to make the experience extraordinary." - Marcia "You should def post the review on wedding wire and UPDATE the review on Yelp on how she followed up with you." - Isa "Def post on wedding wire. And regardless, I thought your wedding was perfect. We all had a blast." - Rachel In the end, she admitted that there were some errors and how mortified it made her, but since the Maitre D' told her not to bring it to my attention because we wouldn't notice, she never spoke to me after the wedding. This part really surprised me the more I thought about it. If she truly felt compelled, she could have reached out to me, maybe not on the night of the wedding, but any time after that. Overall, it felt like she feigned any genuine interest. I really would not have updated this review, but it upset me that after our phone call, she proceeded to send me a very lengthy email, repeating the very same points we spoke about on the phone, as well as in her response to my initial Yelp review. And, DO ask to attend your DJ's hosting gigs if they are public performances (not a wedding), just to get a general idea of their style. I have read wedding tips where they encourage the same. This is just one person's opinion and honest assessment and experience of her services. What a burden it is to continue the debate. Therefore, I am officially over it. read more

Music was one of the most important parts of our wedding, and our experience with Carol ended up being worse than I ever could have imagined. We spent hours crafting the perfect playlist for our wedding, and had multiple calls with Carol so she could get a feeling for us and what we were looking for. Despite our numerous calls and emails with her (including detailed lists telling her what songs we wanted earlier in the night, in the middle and at the end), it was as if she was flying blind at our wedding. She didn't play most of our songs, repeated multiple songs, had no idea how to transition songs, and our cake-cutting song "wouldn't play". Through all of this, she was extremely rude to us and made no attempt to salvage the night. "We made the best of it" shouldn't be the feeling you take away from your wedding. Please look for a DJ who knows what they're doing. read more

I want to express my deep appreciation for the help and support Carol have offered me on my wedding day. I feel very grateful for all the beautiful music she prepared for us and her excellent string band. Without Carol's help, I doubt I could have such a wonderful and dreamy wedding in such a proficient and professional manner. We had a few phone conversations, selected play lists, and verified a couple special music selections. On our day, Carol arrived early to set up. The sound was beautiful, the lighting was on point, and the party was so wonderful until the very end! Carol's voice and annunciation were exactly what we wanted. She checked in with us earlier in the day and clarified some pronunciations, reviewed the time-line, and we got comfortable with the rhythm of the events with a mini rehearsal. I consider myself very fortunate for having a chance to work with an expert like Carol. Working with her was a great and enjoyable experience for me. I really value the knowledge and insight she has, and her willingness to share it with me. I credit her for the success of my wedding as well as for the beautiful music journey she gave us. I thank you for that.. Our day was so awesome! With all the things that went into planning our event, working with Carol made it easier. From the first time we met Carol, we knew she was easy-going, flexible, and most importantly an experienced and passionate DJ. We chose Carol because she was willing to work with us in terms of our music choices, and our reception schedule. Throughout the whole process, Carol was communicative, willing to work with us, and didn't mind when we had some last minute changes and additions to our song choices. In terms of the music, she did splendidly! She even threw in some remixes of our song choices which we enjoyed very much, and knew exactly when to play what songs. She really can work with all the genres! In terms of the day of - she arrived on time, worked seamlessly with our Maitre'D, and I never had to worry about the schedule of my reception. Carol from A starry Night was truly magical to work with. From start to finish her professionalism, communication, and help was greatly appreciated. We chose her to be the DJ for our wedding and she went above and beyond what she was expected to do. She kept in communication with us during the whole planning stage of our wedding. Great timing of music, wonderful variety ( We requested some songs we thought she would have to search for, but she actually knew them and had them on hand), she had the correct versions of all songs. She made sure that we approved the whole song list, and even had us give her some songs to make sure NOT to play. We even had some last minute changes a couple of days before the wedding and she was nothing but nice and had no problems making those changes. She was a great MC during the wedding and did a good job introducing everyone into the reception. During the party she also made sure to come over to us to let us know what was about to happen. she played every song we wanted and there was no mess ups. She truly provided the most wonderful soundtrack to the most important day of me and my husbands life. We also were lucky enough to have Boledo from A Starry Night play the Spanish guitar during our church ceremony. My husband and I were married in April 2015. Carol was our DJ and her husband, Beledo, played acoustic guitar for our ceremony and during cocktail hour. Both are amazing and talented people! Beledo can play pretty much anything and was easily able to accomodate our requests for ceremony music. Carol was a joy to work with from the beginning. When we were first planning our wedding we were intending to just use an ipod but realized that logistically it would be best to have someone to MC the evening so that it flowed well and the big things would be announced. We interviewed several prospective DJs and settled on A Starry Night since Carol seemed easy to work with, very professional, and classic. Carol was very responsive throughout the whole process (even while she was away on vacation) and helped us personalize our night nicely. She offered to craft a mix of songs for our first dance and we took her up on the offer and asked her to put 3 (very different) songs together. She worked very hard on the mix, making multiple versions to match our suggestions and it came out great! She even gave us a digital copy to practice dancing with. When it came time at the reception for our first dance, the first part played wonderfully but the second part was left out, going straight to the third part - it ended up not being a huge problem at all, we still had our moment, and she apologized profusely. The only other minor hangup was that the cake-cutting was either not announced or said very quietly, my fiancé and I recognized the song we picked and rushed over but several guests mentioned missing this part from not hearing an announcement. The rest of the night was fantastic, we only requested a couple of "must-have" songs and she flowed the rest of the songs beautifully, the dance floor was packed for the majority of the evening and was a lot of fun! During cocktail hour and dinner hour she kept the music at a reasonable volume as to not be too loud for the older guests, many commented on how nice the entire evening was. All in all, it was a pleasure working with Carol and we'd recommend her services. read more

Absolutely amazing, we can't say enough good things about DJ Carol. She was truly a joy to work with, she put us at ease while we were planning. Every time we talked to her, the wedding seemed more manageable and like she would have everything under control. On the actual day, she set the mood perfectly. We had given her a well curated list of songs to play that we were certain would get everyone dancing - but it was actually a song off the list that got everyone to get on the dance floor. She can really read and respond to a crowd and set the tone for the type of event you're looking for. On the night of the wedding, there was a torrential downpour just as the reception was starting... For our lovely outdoor patio reception... Carol was set up in the corner under a tent and was getting completely soaked. The management was being less than helpful about rigging up a solution, but through it all, Carol was positive and upbeat and completely focused on the wedding and our reception (she was COMPLETELY soaked through all of this). The fact that she remained so positive infused the reception with a spirit of "this is fun and we are in it together" - we couldn't have asked for a better feeling to the night. She really went above and beyond and was so incredibly professional through all of it. The pricing was extremely reasonable and she even gave us a 5th hour complimentary.
