Our food (that she recommended)was delicious. Atmospheres was fun and we could only imagine how cool it would be during a game. Thank you for a fun time!

I wasn't greeted promptly when I walked in. There was a manager talking to an employee near the entrance. They both saw me and said nothing. The hostess did apologize when she finally made her way to the desk and then seared me. The waitress wasn't very friendly. She wasn't rude, but made it feel like every ask was a chore and we didn't ask for much. The space is HUGE with a variety of seating options. Lounge chairs, booths, & bar stools. There's a bar every EVERYWHERE. I can imagine how busy they get during big televised sports events and even for Durham Bull Games since they're literally in their back yard. The menu is huge and eclectic. I went with the salmon that's served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My friend ordered the Greek Lemon Chicken.i ordered my salmon medium well, but it was stiff and dry and they put entirely too much sauce on it. The sauce was supposed to be lemony, but I only tasted cream the asparagus were overcooked and greasy, but the mashed potatoes were garlicky and delicious. My friend enjoyed her chicken but said it wasn't anything too special. Not sure if I'll go back to this place. There were a bunch of other cool places to try in the area. Customer service needs a little improvement and that's more important to me than the food.

But learn to love Doyles and it will become your second living room and the perfect place to play some bar games and drink. If you want pool, darts, ping pong, shuffleboard, fooseball, pinball they have it all. Depending on who is bartending (if its Chris you are in for a treat) there are often movies they picked out playing on the TV at the bar that you can chill and watch. Sometimes there are even video game systems available to play. What more could you want? Oh yeah drinks. Affordable drink special every night, though unfortunately that is somtimes domestics like coor lights. Fortunately their bottle selection is solid (highland gaelic, sierra nevada/torpedo being my favorite options) and they are always affordable at like 3 bucks a pop. If you want go stronger, their bartenders pretty much universally pour a drink that packs a punch. You won't be disappointed. Doyles is the place where you can go, get a buzz going and just relax and be yourself. There is no pretension here. They have a crowd of regulars who know each other but don't let that scare you. The bartenders are friendly and will make you feel right at home. Some problems I'll acknowledge are their drafts have been broken for a while and even while they were running they often had issues. Also If you want music you have to put money in the juke box which can get pricey if you come as often as we do. But overall, for a friendly dive bar they do it the way it should be done and I've seen many people I've brought get over their skepticism and fall for its charms. It should fairly be a 4-star, but I'll admit I am biased with my local watering hole and I can't not give it a 5.

I have learned a couple of things about NC since moving here and from my experience at Doyles: 1)White Irish folks have other teams they like other than Notre Dame 2)Don't order a Bud Light Lime. Apparently, Bud Light Lime is the drink of choice for gay men here and ordering a Bud Light Lime will send the owner into a tirade and call you all sorts of homophobic names for some odd reason.

I think there's a sports ball thing going on somewhere, too. One person ahead of me and I gave the nice lady my order. The tacos came out pretty quickly, followed by the beer, cool and frothy from the tap. As I've mentioned before, there is a nice adult contemporary soundtrack that is neither background or overpowering. It just hits, and you can chat over it if you want. Or sing along. After a nice bike ride, I stopped in and ordered their three shrimp tacos. I've had them before, but they seemed even more amazing than past visits. Were the shrimp larger? Were there more of them? (4 per taco seems about right!) It was such a lot of food (added to the hazy IPA) that I had to take the last one to go. It may last the night. Or it may be breakfast. I think I've had their burger once. I'm such a sucker for grilled shrimp! Hehe. They have sides and apps as well, but I can't even finish the main!

And the staff is super attentive and friendly to everyone in the place. Definitely nothing to complain about tonight. This place is great. And I love their celebration of minds of all kinds.
