Recently, I experienced some back and knee problems and my PCP confirmed that I needed physical therapy. Since I had a less-than-stellar experience at a local, large, hospital-affiliated PT center, I asked for a recommendation for another PT center. My PCP suggested Owens Physical Therapy Specialists and I'm very glad he did. This center is locally owned and operated by James and Melissa Owens. I had high expectations for this center based on my internist's recommendation and I was not disappointed! I was very happy to find that Owens Physical Therapy provides very personalized treatment based on a detailed assessment by a licensed physical therapist. I was further reassured that they provide only one-on-one care and do not pass you off to a medical assistant or nurse. I saw Jim Owens primarily, but was also able to see Melissa Owens and Katie Thomas when necessary to accommodate my schedule. Every therapist I saw here was amazing! The center is clean and comfortable with adequate parking. It was never over-booked and it was very easy for me to make appointments. The equipment was state-of-the-art and was very well maintained. They also worked with my insurance and I noted their "in-network provider" list was huge. My back pain was promptly diagnosed, treated and rapidly resolved. My knee issues were more tenacious but again, with competent and patient care, improved dramatically with therapy. I was continually surprised that at no point did I feel like "just another patient". I actually felt that the therapy provided by Jim Owens was comparable to the care one would give a family member. He is very hands on, he pushes you to do the best you can and takes the time and effort to help you understand why he pushes at times. However, he always respects your limits and opinions. I'm walking normal and I have no pain or stiffness. I'm conquering the stairs and I'm so glad I did this surgery and found such a great therapist. When you do repeated injections in the painful area and it doesn't help, he tries to shame you into continuing the injections anyway. If he had bothered to review my prior MRI or order a new MRI (and any good practitioner would have), he would have found that it was referred pain from a severe back problem that can't be fixed with injections and requires surgery. My advice is to try somewhere else that isn't just a needle-jockey mill.

I heard them call my name as I was walking out the door but decided I didn't want to deal with the wait every time I needed to return. I'll be looking elsewhere.

After my first visit with him, he recommended MRI scans as well as a back brace. Only to wait a month for them to get the authorization in for my insurance. And what is worse is that I reached out to them multiple times asking for updates and it always goes to voicemail. It is as if they are ignoring my calls. Ive also left multiple voicemails to call back and Ive only gotten one call back. Also after getting in touch with my insurance they informed me that there has been no request for authorization from them about the back brace. So not only did they lie saying they submitted it but also lied saying that we were waiting for insurance authorization. In all honestly after waiting so long I have decided I will not be returning due to the inconvenience. I would also not recommend this place to anyone. Dr. Vasiu does not take time to listen to his clients. He constantly talks and does not give you time to respond or express your own concerns. I would not recommend this place and insist on looking elsewhere.
