This review is based on my personal experience with a staff member named M. Jackson. She was patient, kind, and very respectful throughout my visit. Since I come from a similar work background, I truly understand how fast-paced things can be, and I appreciated how she still took the time to treat me with care. I even mentioned to her that she should visit some of the inner-city locations to help train staff, because her level of professionalism and kindness really stands out. It truly costs nothing to be kind, and she proved that. After living in Charlotte for over 20 years, I can honestly say this was the second best customer service experience I've had so far this year. Do not come here. Came on a Wednesday and was inline at 6:52 and about 50 people in front of me. Finally got in and got a ticket at 8:32 for about 1.5-2 wait. Still waiting after 3 hours. Had to do a walk in because appointment are booked until January. I got there at 6:30am, they open at 7am and there were already 20 people ahead of me. Ok cool aprons 6:53am someone came out asking what we were they for and took information. Line moved pretty quickly to get inside...had to get a ticket number and go back to car to wait for text message. I was out of there by 8:03am. My complaint about this office is the rudeness of the lady that services the customers. I think she forgets that people are Adults and not everyone understands the English language that well. I brought my wife to the DMV to get a new license, and the counter agent SETH told me I couldn't wait in the near empty waiting room with my wife. The waiting room had 10 people seated and at least 50 open chairs. He didn't care that the room was empty. No empathy, no service, no common sense. I even had people that were waiting and saw the whole thing come up and tell me after they were finished that Seth;s actions were sad and unacceptable ... but were afraid to speak up till they finished because they didn't want to get booted out before they were helped. read more

Line out the door when I got here at 7am in the middle of the month on a Wednesday. However, they were super efficient at handling the crowd. Before 7am even hit, a woman came down the line to make sure everyone had the documents they needed, which saved their time and all of our time. We did not make an appointment today, just showing up. They are taking COVID seriously here with capacity limits inside and they will keep people waiting outside until there is sufficient space inside. Masks are required and the staff seemed to be wearing their masks properly. A brief wait outside, then we were questioned at the door and escorted to the receptionist to get a number. We took a seat and waited about 30 minutes until our number was called. My wife had done a fabulous job of preparing the paperwork she needed. On 10/2/24 I visited the NCDMV @201 Arrowood i. Charlotte. We arrived at 1249pm and were turned away. Upon arrival I scanned the barcode at the front door and promptly received the following text: NCDMV: This queuing service is not available until the noon walk-in period. Msg/Data rates may apply. -Reply STOP to opt-out We went inside and got online to check in anyway and could hear the receptionist turning people away. When it was our turn I advised her that my sister and her daughter were new to NC both had special needs and needed NC ID's. We were told that we needed to come back in the morning between 7am and 1030 because "that's when we can accommodate those people". Confused, I asked for clarification and she said that she didn't want them to wait in the lobby so I needed to get there early with "them" I advised her that it was not easy getting out the house with 2 disabled people and to get there that early would be difficult. I asked again if we could wait to be seen since we were already there and she refused to even check our paperwork or offer any assistance. So we left there thinking this couldn't be right and we to the DMV on executive drive 30 minutes away. We got there at about 130pm and were immediately given a similar Spiel by Mrs Hairston who abrasively let me know that they were not helping "those people right now" and she would give me a walk in ticket for another day. So we were turned away at 2 different NCDMV locations in the middle of the day, both citing that they tell seniors and disabled people to come in during designated "early"hours only. We had an appointment today with the DMV for a Level 3 Full Provisional License. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient things were and the staff was excellent. We scanned the QR code outside the door, entered, and we had our name placed in the queue immediately. We did not have to wait in line but simply sat down in the waiting area. They called our number in about 3 minutes. Nick was amazing, super happy and very personable. We had a good conversation and he had us out in less than 15 minutes with a new license in hand. My experience was perfectly fine. You're not going to the DMV because you want to, it's because you have to. Definitely make an appointment. They were turning away walk in people. The agent greeting people was very friendly and polite. Took all my information and gave me a number and told me where to sit to wait. The agent who gave me my driving certificate was also nice and took great care of me. I got there about 10 minutes before my appointment time and was done in less than 20 minutes. read more

in General most DVM in the country are a real pain in the butt. They are the most bureaucratic and mind freezing government institutions That exist. My daughter had to the same thing over and over because of a medication she took three years before. The medication is not even a schedule 2 Narcotic, and she has a virtually clean driver's license ! A typical Govt. F...... up. I remember one time she had to meet an agent in a public place and pay her cash money. Who ever heard of that? I believe she had to submit the same information 5 times. Fast and Easy! I went here yesterday to finally do my "real ID" - I have a feeling they might push requirements back (again) due to the pandemic, but it was nice to finally carve out some time. I made an appointment in advance! I think their online appointment system is pretty key during COVID times. My appointment was at 8am, you wait outside until one of the staff comes to get you. REMEMBER to have your confirmation number (sent by email) ready. Also researched what documents I needed to bring. The real ID website has a "wizard" that walks you through the steps and creates your own checklist of documents to bring. You can tell they are short staffed because the lady that greeted me was doing double duty (on the door) and also doing the vision tests. Aside from her trying to move the line as quickly as possible, it was a pretty simple thing since I had everything ready. I was out by 8:05am. I arrived at 7:45, confirmed my appointment at the front, vision test was like a minute, and then seeing the agent/staffer to process the rest of my documents and give me a temporary ID for 60 days until the real one came in the mail. Once your confirmation is entered into the system, you are assigned a number and then the number is announced overhead to whatever station you need to report to - super organized. Probably the most challenging thing about the DMV is that people are there for all kinds of different things, different documents, and different situations. Come prepared, maybe call and ask questions before you make an appointment to clarify everything so you can be in and out. Let's put some things into perspective... I came here on the first of the month and I had an appointment. There was an extremely long line outside as it was the first day they started doing walk ins from 11-5p. Someone did come outside to call the appointments to come in before allowing any of the walk-ins to. While inside you check in and the person goes through your documentation to make sure you are all set so when your ticket number is called it goes quickly. Well I had to leave twice to go grab additional documents. One trip was totally unnecessary as the "check-in lady" and person at the counter weren't on the same page. Took me about an hour and a half to take care of business. However it seemed like the walk-in appointments would be there wayyy longer. If necessary BOOK THE APPOINTMENT. And these appointments were booked out at least two-three months. read more

This is the worst place I've ever been. I went 5 times before giving up for a new DMV 35 minutes away. I've waited outside in the cold for 4 mornings without an appointment because they are booked 2 months out and every time they came out and said they won't take walk ins but to try again tomorrow. I've missed countless hours of work and finally gave up as getting pulled over for an expired registration will be less painful. Then last Friday I drove over for a final attempt and when I got there they decided to close 30 minutes early with no warning and send people away. When I pleaded with the front desk man he shook his head and yelled at me to get out he didn't care. I had a positive experience at the DMV South Charlotte location. I've visited other DMV in another states and this location may be an exception. Yes, there is a long line outside but those are individuals without appointments. I made my appointment online and arrived early as is recommended. Everyone with whom I interacted was professional, efficient and knowledgable and clarified the process for me. I saw workers interacting with each other in a respectful manner. I was texted to go to the window a minute after my appointment was scheduled. Start to finish I was there for 60 minutes. It takes a long time to get an appointment but that is a DMV systems issue and has nothing to do with individual DMV locations. read more

She was kind, patient and thorough. I am very dark and I've had issues with license photos in the past. She took my photo several times until she was satisfied TSA and others would accept it. I have to say, I try to come to the DMV with an open mind and fair expectations. I don't expect it to be fast, but I do expect a few basic human courtesies. They open at 7 am, which is conveniently early for those who work normal business hours. We got there at 6:45 am and there was a line of about 20-30 people, which I was expecting. Given I got there 15 minutes before they opened, I was not expecting to wait outside for an hour before I was allowed in the building. To set the scene: it was 35 degrees outside that morning, so it was quite cold. It was early January, so the sun was not up for a bit. The area inside is huge and had plenty of space for everyone that was standing outside. They let people inside in groups of 10. They don't let more people inside until all 10 have finished checking in (not a fast process). By the time we were let inside, both my feet and hands were numb. In fact, after waiting inside and being helped for over an hour, my toes were still numb when we left. I honestly feel like this process is just cruel to make people stand outside and freeze instead of letting them wait in a warm building. I have come here in the past and the process may have been the same, but it was less memorable since it was not freezing cold outside. The rest of the experience was about what I would expect. We waited inside for about an hour before we were helped which then took 15-30 minutes longer to update our names and get the real ids. They say they have WiFi which would be awesome, but it didn't work. All in all, I would never consider coming back to this DMV if the weather isn't nice. Yes, it's the DMV...but unlike so many other locations this one runs smoothly and has excellent service. Having recently moved I went online to update my address for a new drivers license, only to find out there was a new North Carolina license requirement. So, unlike being able to update online I would need to visit a DMV location to obtain the new official license. After reviewing the required documentation online, I arrived around 9:00am on a weekday and was quoted 50 minutes. No worries, I came prepared with a book. After only 30 minutes my number was called. After arriving to my quoted counter I was greeted with a smile. The lady who assisted me was very knowledgeable about what steps needed to be done, took my picture, I paid and was done. But, before that she did inquiry about my voter registration, which I was able to update through her as well. I obtained a paper license and was told I would receive my official license within 7 to 10 business days. 7 days later it arrived. I typically dread the DMV but will say this location changed my mind, and was so happy with the wait time, service and how smooth everything went. read more

The procrastinator in me forced an urgent visit to the DMV. My license expired over a week ago !!Surprisingly, it was a fast and easy process . The room was full when we arrived just before 4:00 pm . I knew the Great State of North Carolina does not pay overtime , so I felt confident as long as I was in the place before 4:30 pm I was guaranteed to be in and out fast ! Here's the kicker : The check in lady told me that should my number not get called I would have to come back another day. Uh oh - The pressure was on - hoping I got called before the close of business today. You see I got a job ! A valid drivers license was now a must have in order to work! My poor planning was not an emergency to anyone there. Now here's the Good news : the DMV is now very organized and the process of waiting took less than 20 minutes! I was in and out with a license in 20 minutes! Granted it was a photo copy of a license but a valid license nonetheless ! This is the worst DMV I've ever been to. Staff is incredibly rude. The touch screens look like they have t been cleaned in a decade yet the guy is wearing gloves and full PPE behind a huge plastic partition yet they can't clean the equipment people have to use. I didn't even want to sit down it was so gross. Beyond the dirtiness though people are extremely rude, gave my teenager hardly any direction and sent her to a broken computer. There was another customer arguing at the front desk about how rude they were and how she was given no instruction on what to do. Unbelievable. DMV sucks period. I had to come here twice in 6 months because my license expired while I was out of the country and then I changed my name after I got married. One time I waited and hour and a half total. The second time was about 45 mins. What I like is that they have someone checking to make sure you have all the required documentation when you first walk. Wish they had 2 people as that line gets long and ends up being half the wait but at least you wont wait 2 hrs only to find out you dont have the right documentation. I'd say Monday are prob the worst and actually right when they open. The last time I went around 1pm on a Thursday and that was the shortest visit. read more

Honestly, no complaints. It's the DMV y'all - these people continually have to deal with people missing documents, being at the wrong office (not the place for registration renewal btw), so it makes sense if people feeling some type of way (vice versa - sorry if you feelin' some type of way). Just let it go. Don't take it personally. Regardless, I had a good experience here. The receptionist will nice and held some brief conversation. And I was served as fast as the line allowed. I didn't catch their name, but person at station 6 was lively and great. Probably took a little over an hour total. Good time to catch up on some reading. read more

I have been trying to get a bew drivers license since I moved and was denied several times before they changed their hours for walk in's. Finally had some time today for walk in and when I checked in I asked if I need my social security card and the lady said no. after waiting 2 and a half hours I finally was seen and was told I can't get a real ID since I did not have my card. Now I have to go back and wait again and pay another fee for a real ID. read more

I wasn't able to make an appointment to have my name changed on my driver's license, so I came in as a walk-in. I got there at 6:30am, which was 30 minutes before opening. The end of the line was at the Family Dollar store when I got there. I waited in line for over 2 hours before getting inside to check in. Appointments have priority and front desk individual will come out and call for various appointment times to check in. The front desk takes your request and then ensures you have all the appropriate paperwork to process your request. Staff was friendly. My recommendation is to bring all documentation that could be needed especially social security card AND birth certificate. Be sure if you are paying in cash to bring exact change. Otherwise they do have a credit option. Also if you hate standing, bring a fold up chair or stool to sit on if you are coming as a walk in. Be patient and prepared to wait. read more

He had the worst attitude I've encountered in quite awhile. After sending me to CVS to get printed insurance information (which I could not), he suggested I have it faxed in. Why was this not suggested before making me go into a store during a pandemic. After realizing that my encounter would not be pleasant, I asked could I make another appointment to come back since I had been there and just needed to print the document (hoping I could get an appointment for the next day or even the same week). Guess what? He couldn't do that either, I had to do it online and wait for an appointment 6 weeks later. I made the appointment for another location where hopefully, the employees are more helpful. read more

I'm a big yelp person and lord I wish I would've looked up yelp reviews before venturing to try and switch my license from IL to NC. I was already near the pineville area which was unfortunately how I came upon this location. First off, I get there at 12pm (yes, general rule of thumb get there in the morning- HOWEVER this apparently makes no difference at this location). Waited 45 minutes outside in the 90 degree weather before being seen inside, they then informed everyone it would be a 3.5 hour wait... fast forward 15 minutes and they then state it would be a 4.5 hour wait. Considering they close at 5pm, I was not taking the chance of waiting that long just to be told to come back. The employees were all EXTREMELY rude- my car insurance is under my parents name on the physical card I had, I had an electronic copy with MY name on it and they wouldn't even take the time to wait for me to print it off or have my insurance company fax them a copy (and when i mean wait, i mean hand me a number so i didn't lose my place in line). I overheard them calling people "little miss attitude in the corner" and so on, referring to other waiting customers. I get it, it's stressful, the DMV is always awful- but this location was god awful. Also, side note- people coming out of the building at 2pm had stated they were there since 9am. FIVE HOURS?!! You've got to be kidding me. So on a whim, it's now 2:30 pm, already have wasted a good amount of my day on ignorant people, I figure I'll try another DMV since I already have a headache at this point. I decide to go to the west location (6016 Brookshire Blvd. Charlotte, NC). Building is much nicer and bigger just from outside. I immediately was greeted inside and given a number. The front desk employee was extremely nice to everyone, even people with missing documentation she gave time to explain what they needed. I waited 40 MINUTES before my number was called and was completely out of the facility within AN HOUR with a new license (changed states), new picture, etc. EVERY individual was kind and there was a general peace about the location vs the previous DMV experience where I felt as though everyone was on the edge of their seats about to lose it. The worst part about it is that if your scheduling an appointment today (January 15th) the next available appointment will be in June or july . The customer service is HORRIBLE. I was treated horribly when i went in today. I had made an appointment to change my drivers license to this state from my previous state and right when i was about to take a picture i was told i had to take my head wrap off. Not a bonnet, not a hat, not a du rag but a head wrap. I politely said no and i was told i couldn't take a picture with it, i was asked from the lady if it was for religious reasons and i said yes and no then a guy came and asked the same thing and said that it's policy and law so i said to him where on the website can i read this law or policy because when i made my appointment i did not see it, he had an attitude and told me to take it up with Raleigh and that it's my fault I'm not able to take a picture, he proceeded to be nasty to me so i asked for a supervisor, two men came to me and asked me the same thing so now there's 3 men around me asking me this, mind you I'm with my baby and my son why does it take 3 men to approach a women regarding a head wrap. I was given a letter by the lady and said that if i sign it i have to wear my head wrap everyday if not and a cop stops me it's up to him to take my license away. This is absolutely ridiculous as this law is not posted on the DMV website otherwise i would have been able to do what i went there to do. I got pissed and spoke my mind because my time was wasted and the security guard approached me and told me i had to leave, i told him no I'm making another appointment then he proceeded to speak to me like a child so i defended myself and needless to say i didn't leave until after i made my second appointment. This place is full of rude people and that law is absolutely ridiculous as well because not everyone wears their religious garments all the time, and wearing a head scarf shoes my face even more then if i was to wear my hair down. read more
